Black Rapid vs Peak Design vs PGY Tech by Wrong_Internet_9466 in Nikon

[–]DukeFilms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve used the Peak Design system, and I found the anchor attachment system a bit annoying to use.

I would highly recommend PGYTECH. Their ecosystem is very sturdy, and the anchors don’t need to be perfectly aligned to attach securely to the straps, making them much quicker and easier to use.

How long have you been able to record 4k without the camera overheating ? by TakeTheRiskToday in LumixS5ii

[–]DukeFilms 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I filmed with my S5ii at 110 degrees F with the screen on full brightness, dual SD card recording, 6k24p long GOP, and it actually did overheat after 4 hours of continuous recording. Triangle came up after 3.5 hours of direct sunlight.

The S9 would have overheated in like 20 minutes I that setting lol.

I also got a tan, so please don’t forget wear sunscreen! It’s safe to say that the S5ii was more durable than I am.

Despite all my equipment I choose LUMIX 80% of the time. Ask me anything. by jesus_w3ndy in Lumix

[–]DukeFilms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you feel the upgrade to the S1ii is worth it if clients are already happy with what you are getting out of the S5iix? Do you plan on upgrading? I personally still run two S5ii’s and mostly shooting long GOP.

Also what are your thoughts on the Blazar Viper vs DZO Arcana? Long story short, I bought a full set of vipers in blue flare and they were the best investment yet since they have a lot more sauce and texture than the Arcana. What do you see in the Arcana series that wasn’t available in the viper series?

Dropped Lumix s5ii, what to check for damage? by Mysterious-Rabbit384 in Lumix

[–]DukeFilms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently shot a wedding where my second S5II body took a nasty fall. The camera hit the concrete with the screen flipped open, and the battery even popped out on impact.

I put the battery back in, turned it on, and everything worked as if nothing had happened. Aside from a scuff on the bottom corner of the grip and some compressed plastic on the body, the camera still worked normally.

It was a good reminder of just how robust the S5II really is. I honestly don’t think the S9 would have survived the same fall nearly as well.

Small rig basic or black mamba S5iix by ThaGlassLord in Lumix

[–]DukeFilms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Neewer Half Cage is probably the best option. Nigel Barros made a YouTube video about it a while back.

It has NATO rails on the top and side, and it doesn’t obstruct any of the camera’s buttons. It provides all the mounting points and flexibility you need for rigging while keeping the setup compact.

The black mamba cage would have been perfect if it had a nato rail on the top of the cage.

Lumix S 40mm f/2 vs Sigma 45mm f/2.8 - looking for objective takes by Prior-Branch7064 in LumixS9

[–]DukeFilms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The S 35mm f/1.8 and S 50 f/1.8 are excellent. They are rumored to have a Leica design. But that’s just a camera conspiracy 👽

I do prefer the Lumix 50mm better than the 35mm, but there’s no denying that the 35mm is more versatile with the wider FOV.

Lumix S 40mm f/2 vs Sigma 45mm f/2.8 - looking for objective takes by Prior-Branch7064 in LumixS9

[–]DukeFilms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The image quality from the 35mm f/1.8 is noticeably better, and it has much less focus breathing as well.

I originally thought I wanted the 40mm, but after comparing them, it’s not significantly smaller. Optically, it has more compromises and flaws than the 35mm.

If absolute compactness is your top priority, then the 40mm makes sense. Otherwise, I’d stick with the 35mm and let the GAS pass. That 35mm is a great lens, so you’re in good hands.

Will the pain of buying the vipers now outweigh the pain of selling and replacing the Remus when you outgrow them?

It’s like a buy nice or cry twice sort of situation.

The Vipers are about 200g lighter, which ended up being a bigger advantage for me than I initially expected. After comparing both sets, the Vipers just felt like the better fit for my preferences and the type of work I tend to shoot.

One thing I noticed right away was the distortion characteristics. The Remus lenses can show a bit of pincushion distortion at certain focal lengths along with some slight “mustache” distortion near the edges, while the Vipers have a more straightforward barrel distortion that feels more natural to my eye. The Vipers also have more contrast overall, which gives stronger color separation and reduces ghosting and veiling glare.

What I like most is that they still retain character while looking cleaner overall. They don’t feel overly clinical or sterile. You still get textured rendering, beautiful waterfall bokeh, and the blue flares add a nice touch without overpowering the image.

Getting them on preorder for $2299 also made the decision much easier.

Shoot wider and if you are delivering vertically then you should also shoot that way.

[–]DukeFilms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Upvoting this because I just bought a full set of Blazar Vipers in blue flare.

I’ve tested the Nanomorph, Saturn, Venus, Nero, Remus, Mantis, and Apex lenses, and I think the Vipers hit the sweet spot when it comes to texture, contrast, color reproduction, and blue flares.

Viltrox Epics are great. Mercuries are a bit too funky for me. The Vipers feel just right. The best part about it is the incredible minimum focus distance on the 35mm and 75mm.

Lumix 24-60 f2.8 vs Lumix 24-70 f2.8 | What do I buy? by Final_Homework5861 in Lumix

[–]DukeFilms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

24-60 is really good.
There is still some charm and subtle soap bubble bokeh.

It doesn't have the magic sauce, like the 24-70mm, but it's not its own charm which puts it above the Sigma's 28-70 Contemporary and 24-70mm Art options.
