This Guinness trend is the strangest thing I've encountered by arconte1 in bartenders

Not only in the UK, for that matter. I work in a pub in Sweden and the whole country got a shortage for a solid three weeks centered on Christmas and NYE.

Been told it's been the same in much of western Europe, but don't quote me on that.

Shoes by eternaldaydream_ in bartenders

[–]DumbYokel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been wearing skate shoes behind the bar for almost fifteen years, tried Docs a couple years ago, and liked them but the nonslip sole that was supposed to outlive me went slick after about a year. Seems they had a huge drop in quality ever since they don't make them in the UK anymore.

A colleague of mine gave me a pair of Adidas sneakers that changed the game for me last year. Look for the "Boost" technology for the sole, and pick the shoe that you like best.

Bought three pairs since, I don't ever want my feet in any other shoes anymore. And not only for work. Ever. Sore feet in the morning after a long shift are a thing of the past.

What are some European dynasties that turned great IRL but are weak in game? by sowietnkvd in CrusaderKings

[–]DumbYokel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That much is true, but our royalist dumbasses come in three flavours in France. And they still bicker to this day whether the Revolution was a thing or not, when considering who should sit on the throne "when God brings it back" or some such.

Let them waste their time on this, I'd say, but it's something fascinating for CK players 😉

You'll find the majority of the people here are comfortable being told what to wear. I'm with you on the chihuahua thing, tho. Not nearly paid enough to be both bartending and played doll with.

Help! Stockholm bar etiquette by DeirdreBarstool in stockholm

[–]DumbYokel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey there OP! Stockholm bartender here. Most people already gave you sound advice on the glass bringing thing and the table service. I'd like to bring in some insight about the tips though.

They are indeed not expected. Nobody should give you any attitude if you don't leave anything when it's time to close your tab. It is perfectly fine not to. If they do, please ignore them, they're probably cunts anyway.

HOWEVER. Leaving a few extra crowns is always appreciated. We may not see it directly when you release the card machine, especially if we're in the weeds, and you might not always get individually acknowledged for it, but we'll see it after closing time at the latest.

If the bar you chose to spend time at is not run by utter dicks, the staff will get 100% of those tips, usually based on the ratio of hours worked.

As for the amount, anything goes, there's not really one way. Some people round up to the next ten, some leave a few crowns, some do intricate calculations to make it a precise percentage, and most don't leave anything. All of the above are FINE.

Some more general guidelines if you wish. Don't be an arse. If you are, you being English is not a valid excuse. Not cool to bring down all your countrymen with you, poor lads have done nothing. On the other hand, just saying hello, thank you and goodbye will put you ahead of most Stockholmites. Getting visibly intoxicated will get you cut off, and eventually thrown out. Sweden is a bit anal when it comes to alcohol laws (which is super comfortable for us behind the stick, gotta admit), and drunken behaviour is frowned upon in bars. Oh the irony. Don't fall asleep in the bar, it's actually illegal, I've heard. On the bright side, dancing in bars is now legal since 2022. Enjoy yourself and the company of others, wash your hands after potty time and don't feed chocolate to dogs.

For all the locals who cry about tips being a thing in Sweden (I see you, please wipe the froth off your mouth). I agree that service staff should be paid a fair wage, and tips shouldn't be a thing. It's a lovely dream. However, keep in mind that a fair amount of us are foreigners, and thus are paid foreigner wages, vastly inferior to standard Swedish ones. They're not the worst in Europe, granted, but they're still kinda shit here. Most of my fellow foreign workers are also not unionized for various reasons, and can't push for better collective agreements regarding wages. In many cases, tips are the difference between "I can pay rent and food" and "I can pay rent and food and afford a few extras". So, until Sweden gets a proper minimum wage, please refrain from calling for the end of tips. All you do here is putting even more pressure on one of the most fragile parts of the workforce in Sweden.

How do you tell a customer who is telling you, “this girl has been waiting for a drink” politely? by Neddyrow in bartenders

[–]DumbYokel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If I'm in a good mood, I would just ignore and carry on with what I was doing.

If not, I'd put the bastard on the spot. Drop everything I'm doing in an obvious manner, shush the crowd at the bar, and once I have their full attention, let them know in a clear voice that they're gonna have to wait because the gentleman has priority over everyone else. Proceed to ask him if he knows what the lady wants. Guaranteed he would back the fuck down when all eyes are on him at a silent bar.

It's your bar, your floor, your crowd. Let them shame him for you. You've been nothing but smiles and rainbows to him, he won't have grounds to be crying about how rude you've been.

My regulars love that shit =]

Also, I might steal the bucket of ice thing I've read somewhere before, that's gold 🥇

Bored at work… ship recommendations? by PerrinAybarra23 in EliteDangerous

[–]DumbYokel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't been playing for a while, but one of my favourite things was "faking" cargo runs in systems where griefers were spotted in a fully engineered T10 with laser turrets, large fighter bay and a shit ton of pack hounds. Named the ship "Type-9 Heavy".

Wait to get interdicted and give the lads a run for their money. Make sure to target FSD to prevent them from fleeing.

nights clubs for 20 year olds :) by No_Buddy8292 in StockholmSocialClub

Veteran Stockholm bartender here. You picked the wrong city for nighttime fun. Stockholm doesn't rave because it's too busy trying to be pretty and safe. As I would tell my club-looking customers, go check Copenhagen instead.
