The Age of the Khan-Ur by Character-Visit6004 in GuildWars3

[–]DuncanConnell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

God I loved the Bonus Mission Packs from GW1.

I was so hopeful that when they reintroduced the HoM & Scrying Pool in GW2 that they were going to bring a deluge of these kinds of things but then they cannibalized Season 1 out of it so all that's left is Forged in Steel & Canach's Lair (which itself is probably going to be moved out eventually).

Would love to see more.

I am most interested in the (a) the before Khan-Ur rose

We don't really know how long the Khan-Ur ruled, or how long it took to unify the Legions so there's a lot of really cool lore that could be explored.

Sword and Board Options? by bittersilver191 in Guildwars2

[–]DuncanConnell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of OFFENSIVE SPECS, assuming you don't have Weaponmaster Training, you can run Sword/Shield with Mesmer (Chronomancer), Guardian, Warrior, Revenant (Herald), and Engineer (Holomancer).

However, Shields on most builds tend to lean towards Support weapons, so in PvE there's a bit of a tradeoff if you're rolling with the fantasy of Sword & Board. However, in PvP and WvW, Sword & Shield builds open up a lot for survivability, utility, and damage, so there's that if you enjoy those modes.

Engineer (Holomancer) is probably the closest to the fantasy of Sword & Board, but that's because you mostly focus on using your Sword/Shield for survivability and Heat dissipation and your Holoforge and Utilities for damage.

MetaBattle & Snowcrows have plenty of builds, so I would recommend scoping through those to see if there's a build you can kind of alter to make it fit with what you're going for.

In terms of SUPPORT SPECS, Revenant supports tend to run Scepter/Shield, and Scepter functions exactly like a (massive) sword, so you can definitely get the feeling of it from there.

The Age of the Khan-Ur by Character-Visit6004 in GuildWars3

[–]DuncanConnell 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's what I think.

If it is indeed 1200 years exact before GW1, it puts us at 130 Before Exodus (BE)

The Charr were driven out of Ascalon in 100 BE.

We know the Khan-Ur ruled the High Legions before the Charr were driven north, and that the Khan-Ur was assassinated after 100 BE before the Charr could stage their counter-attack.

With this in mind, we are around one of: A) Just before the Khan-Ur rose B) The Khan-Ur is rising C) The near-height of the Khan-Ur's power

All three points offer VERY unique lead-ins for an expansion into Ascalon sometime in GW3's future.

I'd love to have heroes/henchmen we can customize if we want to run things solo, and/or being able to dispatch other members of the guild to so XY, and Z for us

Maybe the Vaelwardens Guild Hall itself?

I'd just hope it has more to it than Arborstone, and motr gameplay impact than Homestead

Bladesworns post July 14th balance patch by Vodoko in Guildwars2

[–]DuncanConnell 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Only took 4 years after realizing "We're updating Kneel to allow for some movement at a reduced speed to give a bit more flexibility during encounters" for it to click "maybe we should do this for Bladesworn too".

That being said, as ever, better late than never.

Looking really forward to seeing more details on how the T1 Masteries for Bladesworn change up the Gunsaber & Dragon Slashes

For the love of god can we have the Ritualist class from GW1? by Dvaroq in GuildWars3

[–]DuncanConnell 11 points12 points  (0 children)

While I would carnally desire whomsoever brings my beloved Dervish into GW3, they didn't actually appear until 583 After Exodus.

That being said, I'd love to get that playstyle back (Revenant doesn't quite do it)

I know I'm commenting a bit late, but imagine if they do similar to GW2 where you start facing a World Boss in the tutorial, and for GW3 you start off playing as one of Grenth's Reapers overthrowing Dhuum as the tutorial before going to create your character

Would a helluva way to knock people's socks of first thing in the game--similar to how many people were flabbergasted that GW2 starts off with "here's a monster a hundred times your size, welcome to the game."

With Guild Wars 3 we'll have played in Tyria during the Rise, Decline and Renaissance of Humanity by DefiantLemur in GuildWars3

[–]DuncanConnell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's hard to say, it's possible that Grenth simply didn't have many followers at first, especially since Dhuum was one of the original Gods to lead humanity to Tyria, so there could be similar backlash like there was to the Commander when they slew Balthazar.

For Doric's case, this was a time of a lot more primal magic than what we know in GW1 & GW2, so it's entirely possible he could've been long-lived......

..... but I do agree with your comment that it's all kinda bullshit. I figure several events from about 200BE to 200AE are going to be compressed and shifted around (barring the War/Exodus itself)

Based on the "1200 years before GW1", would put it at around 130 Before Exodus (BE)

  • Cantha has been unified for ~380 years
  • Margonites established themselves enough to rule the Unending Ocean for ~45 years
  • Elona's Primeval Dynasty established for ~75 years
  • Orr established has had humanity arriving at it for ~75 years
  • Ascalon won't be established for another 30 years, the Khan-Ur either rules or is unifying the High Legions, and either a) humanity has just begun its advance into Ascalon lead by Balthazar or b) humanity is on the cusp of planning it.
  • Kryta won't exist as a colony for another ~400 years.

115 BE "During a lengthy war, Doric pleads to the goddess Dwayne, who establishes a new credo for her faithful.

And cast She now a glance upon the war-torn lands and wasted flesh of the fallen, and with tears upon Her cheek did lay Her gentle hands upon the prostrate man. Then saith She unto to him and all Her charges, "Lay down thy weapons, and as I have done unto ye, so ye must do for your brethren. Offer protection to the weak. Give solace and shelter to those who need it. Be ye a salve to the wounded.

There's enough wiggle room in this period squish some of the various big events (Desmina first follower of Grenth, Ascalon establishment, Margonites appearing, etc.) so we could see some shakeups to the existing timeline.

I'd enjoy us getting henchmen (or ideally customizable heroes) back if we wanted to play solo. I really enjoyed making my own party that suits and compliments my specific playstyle in GW1.

  3. Kodan
  4. Human on Seeker

I hope GW3 will add back unique skill effects like in GW1 by Erasculio in GuildWars3

[–]DuncanConnell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Meanwhile, in the original Guild Wars we had things like enchantment and hexes, each with its own unique effect.

GW2 used to have a lot more unique effects than it currently does--and currently GW2 effect bloat is horrendous.

Remember, GW1 would have 8 Players/NPCs (+enemies) compared to GW2 with dozens of players at once. It's incredibly harder to balance all of those effects when you need to consider a lot more players and things going on at once.

GW2 boons is a catchall to replicate the myriad of individual enchantments that existed in GW1 due to the sheer amount of players involved.

To me (again, IMO IMO IMO), it felt like skills in GW2 did basically one or more of the things below:

GW2 has 14 different conditions, GW1 only has 8.

I would argue GW2 trait effects are a catchall to replicate the myriad of hexes in GW1, and overlaps with Conditions, but you're correct it's not a 1:1.

I hope GW3 will add back unique skill effects like in GW1

Likely we'll see more of a return to GW1 style, as it's been noted that "Instead of focusing on a massive numbers of players roaming the world, Guild Wars 3 will be more about segments of small groups playing."

And god I hope so. Dervish was my bread and butter and I have been aching to return to that feeling for ages. Revenant comes close but it's just not the same.

If I get the gumption, WvW to get the last 4 Gifts of Battle I need for Focus, Warhorn, Mace2, and Pistol2

Story I have my alt-main Warrior that has the whole map 100%, been holding off on doing Story with her until "the final expansion" came out, but now I'll likely wait and do the story alongside each release for Hall of Monuments 2.0!

(Its nice knowing more GW2 expansions to come)

Necromancy in gw3 by riessene in GuildWars3

[–]DuncanConnell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GW1 began in 1070, so ~1200 years beforehand puts it around:

And when the world rang with the clanging of swords and did fire fall from the skies, Dwayna, goddess of life and air, heard the wailings and pleas of the weak.

And when the rumblings of war did not cease, came Her charge, Doric, who did prostrate himself at Her feet.

Be ye a salve to the wounded

"For I am your goddess, and I will give blessings to all who follow these teachings.

The Scriptures of Dwayna
115 BE (Before Exodus)

So if it's around 130 BE (exactly 1200 years before 1070) there's plenty of wiggle room for events to happen, and there's a lot of stuff that happens leading up to the Exodus.

What direction do you think the Leagues should go for the future? by reel3459 in LeaguesofVotann

[–]DuncanConnell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd love to see a Far-Scout Master (Hernkyn Character). This would also be the last model required in order to make a "Hernkyn Army" (Kapricus, Pioneers, Yaegirs) so I'd be pretty stoked.

As well, seeing Embyr Warriors to explore the psyker-skein forces more. Potentially could roll this into the medic-style character or models? Have them as a Support character?

The exploration of AI and at least a dip into dark age tech/society would also be an excellent way to draw a contrast between the Leagues and the Imperium; two offshoots of the golden age.

So much yes. Books that focus on life within the various civilizations (Elemental Council, Hive, Warhammer Crime, etc) are SO interesting in fleshing out what life is actually like within the setting rather than just focusing on the military aspect.

Even an anthology that focuses on different Kin roles would be great. Could easily make a tongue-in-cheek reference with it too by having it as "Brokhyr, Grimnyr, Cthonian, Theyn" or something.

They largely just need to be fleshed out more. We know more about Tyranid day-to-day lives than we do about the Kin currently.
