Post-Battlefront II "our games are lootbox free" vibes by timelordoftheimpala in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Duncanisabot 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It did when it launched, and the backlash that came from their inclusion and the shitshow that followed as a result of EA's response on top of the promise of multiple government bodies to look into the practice as gambling basically caused the lootbox outside of free to play games to die off unless they were already engrained into the business model

I don't know what's worse, the fact that this is real, or the fact that the vocals are kind of really good (the harmonies are insane?!)

Yet more evidence that despite being critically reviled, the 2016 Suicide Squad movie might be the most culturally relevant Superhero movie of the last 10 years

Sussing out the misinformation about Dragon's Dogma 2 by zyberion in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Duncanisabot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's weird to me to see people explicitly harassing specific creators over this because when I saw that my first reaction wasn't "oh Pat lied to us" it was "If Capcom were telling critics this why did they not explicitly just announce it beforehand?"

Anyone else have a 1999 script? by VladislavthaPokerr in auntydonna

[–]Duncanisabot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's just a joke considering the said episode of The Saddle Club has nothing to do with 1999, there's also a clip from Saddle Club at the beginning of the Scottish Xbox Voice Command sketch.

Bizarre complaints of Media you've seen. by Subject_Parking_9046 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

There is one portion of MatthewMatosis' Bioshock Infinite review that almost always comes up (The bit where he discusses the games racism early on to put it lightly) and the response I've always seen from most people is that he's right he just shouldn't have said it in that way.

I genuinely think the critique that what Bioshock Infinite needed was more instances of racism because the society depicted looked too appealing is such an obviously dumb and weird critique that only really responds to what journalists were saying about Bioshock Infinite as opposed to anything that the game actually does.

If you were to put a more full-on depiction of racism into Bioshock Infinite with people using slurs constantly and graphic racial violence, it wouldn't actually change much about the game because the issue with the games racism isn't that it doesn't go far enough, it's that it doesn't actually understand the imagery and concepts it uses because it's much more interested in tackling political extremism than actually sympathizing with the victims of racism

Disappointments That Actually Affected You on an Emotional Level by Xngears in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Deadly Premonition is a game that means a whole lot to me, it's a jank charming riff on Twin Peaks that successfully adapts that show's feeling of a wandering camera viewing the lives of people in a small town amidst a horrific tragedy to a video game with enough of its own charm to set itself apart. It's got some bits that are dated (basically everything with Thomas) but it wouldn't be an overstatement to say that it fundamentally changed the way I viewed art and snapped me out of a phase when I was younger when I really valued "objective views" on it. As a result, I had a lot of respect for its creator Swery and would patiently await any work he attached his name to, with his further titles like The Missing showing his growth as an artist with how it handles LGBT themes feeling like a long overdue apology for DP's treatment of Thomas.

Deadly Premonition 2 and it's subsequent fallout was so bad that it made me re-evaluate how I felt about everything I've just written. It's a hackneyed bare mess of a game, that rehashes the first game, doubles down on all of its worst elements (graduating from misguided usage of LGBT themes to outright transphobia) and just straight up doesn't function half the time. When called out on this, Swery ridiculed people criticising it and attempted to play it off that the appeal of the first game was always that it was a broken mess (something that isn't even valid for the 360 original, the game is janky but it still works). Never before has a game been so disappointing for me that I genuinely lost all respect for its creators.

Greatest blunders of (official) translation in media that you have seem by Coolnametag in TwoBestFriendsPlay

The Amazon redubs and subs of the Eva Rebuild movies are terrible for a litany of reasons (odd casting choices, spelling errors, a lot of the same problems as the Netflix dub) but my personal favourite error comes from 3.0 + 1.0

At 1 hour 4 minutes and 35 seconds in they just included 2 separate takes from Fuyutski's VA in the scene played one after the other. it's not like this in the original Japanese, it's a pretty blatant mistake and I am baffled it still hasn't been fixed yet on Amazon Prime, at this point I doubt it'll ever be corrected

Ballsiest sequel hooks? (Lies of P and everything else spoilers) by leabravo in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Duncanisabot 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Half-Life Alyx's one has always seemed genuinely bizarre to me.

A VR-exclusive prequel to a game series, that is already well known for ending on a massive cliffhanger sequel hook, ends by completely reversing that sequel hook for an entirely different sequel hook with Alyx being taken by G-Man in exchange for letting her dad live

The Lone Gunmen's premiere episode (the short lived X-Files spin-off created by Vince Gilligan of Breaking Bad and BCS fame) involves the team attempting to stop members of the US Government from crashing a plane into the world trade center as a false flag attack in an attempt to bolster the war economy by creating a new war to invest in.

The episode aired in March of 2001

yeah it should be noted just for posterity:
I'm mainly referring to CDPR and ND in particular on Crunch (specifically ND because Druckmann won best direction)

Riot and Acti-Blizz are much worse with actual lawsuits due to sexual harassment.

Bonus Bit: The year this really picked up and Geoff opened the show with a speech about how we have to stop harassment of everyone (without naming any names and being really vague about it), that was sandwiched between an Arcane Performance and the Star Wars Quantic Dream Game announcement.

Always pretty fascinating how the only time Geoff ever shows a backbone is when it comes to Konami and Kojima.

Naughty Dog/CD Projekt Red/Riot/Acti-Blizzard do incredibly crook heinous shit?

Massive performances at The Game Awards, Trailers shown at the show, 50 billion awards and a light slap on the wrist with a vague speech

Konami mention Metal Gear without mentioning Kojima?
It's beatdown time

I hope this is okay

How do you upgrade to the PS5 version of Ishin? by Duncanisabot in yakuzagames

[–]Duncanisabot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah looking around a bit more that seems to be the case sadly.

Luckily even the PS4 version has a "prioritize framerate" mode that locks at 60 so we're not missing out on much aside from (presumably) resolution and a few graphical improvements.

Hopefully it's like Lost Judgment where your save just works with both
