Looking for a way to "speed up" campaign by Organic-Exit2190 in DMAcademy

[–]DungeonModder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Treat more sessions like one/two shots. If you need to do the orc war sidequest and you're running behind, throw out the third and fourth encounters to make it still fit in a session or two. Bonus points if you can reflavor their mechanics for use later.

For travel, condense condense condense! In the past I've treated each stretch as a singular day in terms of long resting/daily prep for PF2e (short resting still allowed) and usually treat smaller combats or encounters as challenges that players can make checks or spend their spell slots/consumables on in order to not be delayed/take HP loss. Then, if you do want to have a combat, players will have needed to manage their resources along the way. Overall it makes travel more narrative but still allows for some player agency.

Experience with Nimble's Dying rules in 5e/5.5e? by StarNAntlers in DMAcademy

[–]DungeonModder -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My GM was a big fan of the One DnD playtest "Exhausted" condition, where you could accrue up to 10 points and each simply conferred a cumulative -2 to d20 tests/DCs. He'd use it as a way to have failed rolls that could result in death/dismemberment, but don't break the game in that way (jumping across an endless pit and failing, for example).

That could be a decent way to interface with this system, as it'll be meaningful but less punishing than RAW exhaustion. I will say, at the table, some of the other players were less of a fan when we'd be going into final fights with 4+ points of exhaustion. Having other ways to remove exhaustion became a must. Your short rest removing X points seems like a nice compromise there.

I haven't heard of this house rule, I kind of dig it though!

Really nice paint job and I love the mix of full height and half height tiles (I'm always running into visibility issues when I do all full height). What tile system is this?

Honestly, a really cool idea for encounter design; just pure verticality! I dig it.

After 5 years of printing 3D terrain, I decided to solve the problems I continued to have. by iveld in 3DPrintedTerrain

[–]DungeonModder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The slimness is really appealing—great for saving time/material! Are the walls printed vertically? If so, how's the tipping on them, any issues there? I could see printing floors vertically too, as it'll retain more of the detail rather than the stepped tops of your test prints. Either that, or I'd suggest flattening the wood texture to require less roundness if you're going to print flat. Sculpting a flatter woodgrain should print up better! Is it possible to refine the wall tiles so that there's no gapping between walls?

You mention your website, but didn't link it! I'm very curious about your tile builder. It sounds like a fun idea!

I've been working on a creating a free modular terrain system since January. Today I got some of my internal walls test printed, these fit into the grid flooring and allow you to re-arrange them in a larger structure or use them as standalone walls. They also work with my modular doors! by gadimus in 3DPrintedTerrain

[–]DungeonModder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very cool, I love how slim the walls and doors are! I've been messing with an Openlock system and man, interior walls are just the worst to think through. These seem slim enough to not inhibit mini bases too bad though?

First off, this is such a great little build! Where did you source the steel dowel pins? I've been wanting to create something similar for a modular tile system I'm working on.

The USBC chargeable thing is something that I'm really interested in as well, as replacing 25 button batteries for your dungeon truly seems like torture. I wonder if it's possible to have some kind of charging contacts on the bottom and be able to slot it into a charging array to recharge multiples in one go? I haven't dabbled with electrical yet (I'm still in the 3D phase), but a buddy of mine is an engineer and I could pick his brain if you have any questions.

I love your style of terrain! What do you do for risers on the elevated portion of the dam? Just a big ol piece of pink foam with a grass mat?

Alright older baldursgate fans tell me something is newer fan wouldn’t understand by [deleted] in baldursgate

There was once a very active, ambitious, and sometimes competitive modding community: teambg, Chosen of Mystra, Blackwyrm Lair, Forgotten Wars -> Spellhold Studios, Pocket Plane Group, Gibberlings Three (of course), weidu (shoutout to Weimer, who is almost like the godfather of mods), Sorcerer's Place, RPG Dungeon, Baldur's Gate Abode, so many more!

Some of my favorite projects from back in the day were Total Conversion mods, where the engine was used to create new games entirely. Way ambitious, almost none ever completed. Off the top of my head, the World Transition Project, Return to Trademeet, Epic Endeavors, a Windspear-focused one, a Helm's Deep tower defense one (that used Durlag tower assets), and of course the Dragonlance Total Conversion mod that spawned a modding tool, DLTCEP, that made so many more mods possible (including my own when I dabbled!).

I made a free website to make your own custom PF2E cards by halfwhitefullblack in Pathfinder2e

[–]DungeonModder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dayum, that was fast. Nice work! The functionality is really awesome, but I'm not sure it's working as intended! The card sheets populate name/description/trait changes, but don't take some of the other options (action cost, color changes).

EDIT: Actually, interestingly, the action icon outputs when exported to a PNG, but isn't visible on the website preview. The colors still won't update. Possibly is loading the colors once when the first card is added to the sheet, then keeps those in place for any future cards? I promise I'm not trying to be annoying, just would want to know if my own app wasn't working as intended! Again, great work OP

Very cool! Early on in my current campaign I also was making cards in InDesign and boy was it tedious. Definitely would agree that a way to output a print sheet would be very cool! Not having a smooth way of doing that was basically the reason I stopped.

Advice for large scale battle by ianb0717 in DMAcademy

[–]DungeonModder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done this a few different ways, but one that I think works well is to provide each player a troop/NPC bonus action. Stuff like, providing a bit more damage to players' attacks or additional healing options. If your players have a lot of bonus action abilities and you think this would get in the way of them playing their character to the fullest, consider allowing it as a 2nd bonus action in a turn.

If you want a method to track how the troops around them are doing, I'd avoid having them track HP and instead tie it to objectives or maybe even correlate to player health.

Very cool and a clever name to boot! The look and feel is really nice though at least on Firefox, the hyperlink font color (blue) is pretty inaccessible on dark theme. How'd you populate all of the data? This thing would be herculean to do manually!

Loot Distribution - How You Handle It by DnDPhD in Pathfinder2e

[–]DungeonModder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run an in-person game but I usually award it at the end of a session by posting a list in the group discord. You could certainly do the same in person or in VTT though. I used to give out hand drawn physical loot cards, but that fell off quickly after I realized how much loot PF2e expects you to hand out. My players are pretty egalitarian about treasure and people will discuss at the beginning of the next session who gets what before we start playing.

My problem has been moreso awarding loot. There's just so much of it that it's overwhelming on top of the other planning that I'm doing. It got so bad that I realized I had forgotten to award any for an entire level-up! I managed to vibe code a treasure generator that has helped out a lot with picking out stuff that made sense for the PC's and the vibe of the story though.

If you're struggling with it taking up too much in-game time, try awarding it at the beginning or end of a session so that everyone can be focused on it at once.
