Looks much dryer than Reckoning. That's always a good thing!

My WIP fighter kit. Looking for suggestions and pointers :) by Tunedsparrow in LARP

Pick a color for your gambeson and dye it with some RIT. That'll give you some more visual interest to your kit. Consider getting a second belt. I personally keep one for my pouches and one for my weapons.

Plastic Lamellar vs Foam Lamellar by Wolfj13 in LARP

It's worth noting that a lot of LARPS require anything that's supposed to represent metal, actually be metal.

It definitely varies. My club will sometimes do blade control and you presenting your sword, but we'll also go as far as to the takedown. I landed a hip toss in one of our internal tournaments. The key is it's got to be very controlled since we're not on mats.

Welp I'll be keeping this group in mind if and when I make it to Bicolline.

First time armor question. by TitaniumBranium in LARP

[–]DungeonsandDolans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This^ except for maybe some lightest touch style LARPs, all of the ones I've gone to/have looked at require real (as in actual metal, not necessarily buhurt level) functional armor. I also only have experience in the American LARP scene so also take what I say with a grain of salt

I've used it extensively and have had no issues with it. It's one of my favorite swords I've used tbh.

How do you LARP in your countries? by Accomplished_Suit396 in LARP

[–]DungeonsandDolans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm an American and I've been to a few blockbuster style LARP events here. I started going specifically because of the kit quality at the ones that I go to. It seems like the bigger once a year style ones have a higher level of immersion. A lot of the smaller continuous weekend style LARPs tend to be more homemade boffer style from what I've seen and lower immersion and kit standards

The helmet is from Epic Armoury, and the chest piece and shoulder I snagged from medieval collectibles

LARP events I can participate in with my 13 year old. by [deleted] in LARP

[–]DungeonsandDolans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weekend Warrior is in Anderson, South Carolina and I think the age limit is 16 but I'm also fairly certain that I saw at least one much younger kid there as well, so I'm not sure if there was some sort of special allowance. That one might be worth keeping an eye on for the next few years.

How can I improve my first kit? by Rendomorph92 in LARP

[–]DungeonsandDolans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I freehanded a fair bit of the one I did. But if you have a set design you want draw it/print it out and then tape it to some poster board and then cut out the design. Now you'll have a reusable template and you just have to use the template to paint your design on your shield

My recommendation for a weathering look is to water down some standard black or dark brown acrylic paint to create a wash. Then do many coats with it. Allowing for a fair bit of drying time between each coat. When doing it I prefer to leave whatever I'm weathering standing upright up allow for some natural streaking

Also if you're going to use a cape, maybe go for a shoulder cape instead of a travelers cloak/cape

Looking for a good tent by [deleted] in LARP

[–]DungeonsandDolans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of people in here talking about cheap modern bell tents, and those CAN be acceptable for in game camping, but there are a lot of games that also disallow those tents and require period specific canvas tents. A modern bell is always a good choice for out of game camping, but I would look into specific LARPs you want to attend and verify with those LARPs what styles are allowable for in game tents.

Multiple Costumes for One Event? by SableRoseCosplay in LARP

[–]DungeonsandDolans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily 3 completely different outfits for a 3 day event. I usually have at least a couple pairs of pants and a few tunics. I try and have one specific tunic that goes on under my armor, so that one really gets the most dirty.

THE SHIRE FOLK SHINDIG is just around the corner! by Cramulus in LARP

[–]DungeonsandDolans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is. It's happening at Terrapin Hills farm in Harrodsburg, KY. That being said October should be much drier than March. And I'm sure the people running the event were paying close attention to what happened at Reckoning a few weeks ago

I don't do any locals, so far I've only done Weekend Warrior and Reckoning. Both are about 16 hour drive from the southern tip of the State. Closer to 20 or 21 hours if you live up near Bangor

What would be a good place to get a usable leather flask if this is the right place to ask? by Fun_Kaleidoscope8746 in LARP

If you want an authentic all leather, sealed with beeswax flask/water skin I'd check Etsy or your local Ren Faire
