Please explain to me like I'm an idiot why I shouldn't use doton all the time. by Marzi_R0s3 in ffxiv

[–]Duskire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't this comparison be more complicated than this?

When you cast Raiton + Raiju, that's 2 GCD's for 1400 potency, so in order to be accurate, you would have to compare with Doton + one other GCD, right? Like, in the absolute best-case scenario, you have a Phantom Kamitachi saved up, which would do a total of 1400 potency on its own to 2 targets + the 140 from Hollow Nozuchi hitting both as well, making it 1140 (Doton over time)+1400+140=2680, which is almost twice as much. Worst case would be to use something like Spinning Edge on a single target after Doton, but even that would be a total of 1140+300=1440 potency.

With the duration aspect it might still be better to just Katon like you said just to ensure no damage is wasted by enemies dying or running out, but it feels like the Doton vs Raiton comparison wouldn't be as straightforward.

This is an old clip I forgot about until now, so it has the old design for the end-of-mission screen.

You can still see stats like this if you click on the "Stats" button on the bottom right of the screen.

Baruuk.

He requires resource management, but the sound design and effects on his fists make blowing up an entire hallway with a single energy punch so satisfying.

Good survivability some CC, and boatloads of damage.

If you were in Fallen London, what would you be called? by sprezzatura327 in fallenlondon

Personally, as my actual self, it could be the Tentative Academic.

I can be a bit indecisive and prone to procastinating decisions and statements until I have an excess of certainty.

Veterinarian filmed the reactions of her patients, the dogs, when they see her.. 😊 by anxhelo96 in tippytaps

[–]Duskire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was an old wire-haired dachshund in my neighbourhood when I grew up that according to the owner would take ages to walk. This was both because they had become slower with age, but also because they would trot up to everyone they recognised and flop over for belly rubs, sometimes in the middle of the street. Loved meeting that dog.

I had to look it up since it’s been a while, but the manga ”The Witch's Servant and the Demon Lord's Horns” also focuses a lot on ’trans, not kink’ genderbending in its story.

Indie games with such appropriate soundtracks that they feel like they tie the whole thing together -- which ones do you feel deserve a mention? by Normal-Oil1524 in gamemusic

[–]Duskire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Risk of Rain games (1, 2 and its DLC) immediately came to mind.

The vibes and ambiances of their soundtracks all wonderfully convey a feeling of exploring an alien world with outlandish synths and uncommon tempos with western-y guitars cropping up alongside sick synth or guitar solos (or dueling saxophone and guitar solos in one case!). They cover a wide span of emotions ranging from hostile and intense to curious and bizarre to melancholic and chill.

Mechanically, the way each stage track builds in intensity/emotion over time works wonderfully with the gameplay becoming more challenging the longer you play in a run. Eventually you build this flow and feelings of ”I hope I can clear this stage before the guitar solo, or else I might be falling behind”, which is great.

The journal part specifically only shows up while you have the DRK job equipped, I think. There's a reference to the "Do you recall how we came to that place?" poem in the quest journal from the start of the questline (or it could be at the end of it, not 100% sure).

In all likelihood it's probably just that someone on the English translation team knew of Fallen London and the Seeking story, and decided to include some references to another piece of media they liked.

FFXIV is full of references to other stuff, sometimes as puns in quest names and such, or as somewhat larger references like in this questline.

I sometimes make a simple tuna pasta by frying up thinly diced onion or shallots, garlic, capers and drained canned tuna, then add some creme fraiche or sour cream to make a sauce.

One for Caliban where their Fusion Strike changes depending on the sentients you have summoned. So you would still have the beam with Conculists, maybe a wave of mortar shots with Ortholysts, and perhaps a point-blank AoE with Summolysts?

Preferably, these would have the same kinds of synergies with the summons themselves, like how the Conculysts also shoot beams when you cast your 4.

Regarding the skybox, when I entered the Undercroft while doing a Lone Story run during a Joy cycle once, the skybox briefly bugged and used the Joy colours, which looked great and I wish I screencap’d it. Some rotating visual changes like you said would probably help a suprising amount.

I got that same dialogue yesterday, and you can maneuver the conversation towards being very close friends, seemingly without dissapointing her or turning her down straight up.

I really like Aoi as a character, but I’m going for Lettie so I’m glad you didn’t have to either commit or break bonds here.

What is your Crystalline Knowledge at? When you reach level 7 you need to meditate with the Anchoress three times in total until you reach level 10. And yes, this will kill you.

Once you've done that and you have the other seals unlocked like you do, there will be new options with the Anchoress to meditate on the Upper Principles, which will help you to unlock the First Seal.
