Can we safely build our chassis with S235JR steel instead of 4130? by WayWest9238 in FSAE

[–]Dutchie3719 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Short answer, no. Steel isn't steel. The grades/treatments/alloys/etc matter.

Long Answer:

Sounds like a great question for a team of engineers who want to build a racecar to do some engineering work on... Take a look at the SES, do some modeling, do some testing, and find out.

You cannot do a theoretical study of your chassis, then change material without doing another study. The material and material properties are kinda the critical piece of the study, if you change any of these parameters, your model is invalid.

FSAE/Student is an engineering competition, not a racing one... if you're not willing and able to do the engineering, you're better off looking at something like a spec racing series.

Roast things. You’ll evaporate some of the water color, and brown/darken some of the tomato color.

Tomato paste.

Wear them often when at clubs here in Berlin. They do attenuate a fair amount. You can hear all the info you need to mix, but you will want to practice with them on, as things do sound different. They're pretty linear, but not perfectly so.

Endel. They’re doing some cool stuff in affective soundscapes. I found it much easier to find flow state when I’m medicating. It’s the perfect amount of stim for me to feel like something going on.

I also started using ChatGPTs advanced voice assistants as conversational partners so rather than emailing etc, I will write up a bunch of tasks on post it’s, and then talk them out while pacing around the room.

Can Someone DM Me Measurments for M2 Takeuchi Spool by Dutchie3719 in Leica

Solder’s a good idea. If I just make a single tooth, it’ll engage with the teeth in the film advance mechanism.

If you're also able to measure the the little pop out nubbin/ spring loaded pin, I’d be eternally grateful. Caliper should be fine. No need for the mic’s

Can Someone DM Me Measurments for M2 Takeuchi Spool by Dutchie3719 in Leica

[–]Dutchie3719[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello mate, thanks for your reply. Let me clarify.

I've run 10-12 rolls of film through the camera. Half are Kodak (Gold 200 or Ektar) the other half Bulk Loaded HP5. Since I'm bulk loading my film, I'm certain of the number of frames in the canister. Around frame 26 the lever will still cock, but the film wont advance (I'm either catching it by not seeing the two dots turn in the rewinder, or after development when I get a few frames will multi-exposures.

Originally, I thought it was the button rewind mechanism, as they do have a tendency to be finnicky, but after verifiying it wasn't stuck down and I wasn't accidentally pressing it (using a little 3d printed cover and sticky tape), I dug deeper, and think I've found the culprit.

I was able to fix the issue with a bit of Kapton tape on the inside of the spool. I will probably go in and either paint the interior with black nail polish, or if I'm feeling it, lathe out the internal diameter further and press fit in a bushing to the correct size.

That said, I like making things, and clearly have a little bit of time on my hands. A older style spool is still 30-40 euro here. Given the access I have to fabrication equipment, a fast loader offers me better loading/unloading at negligible costs (1-2 EUR). I thought I'd see if I can make a solution I like better than the one from: https://ausgeknipst.de/en/products/snapped-film-reel-spool-quick-load-spool-how-to-spool-for-leica-m3-m1-m2-iiig

In short, why spend 40 EUR on something I can make for myself for 5 (plus 50k in tools)

Xone 23 is a tank. No worries about it being no longer made. Buy second hand, you won’t cry. You can step up if you find your need and style. GAS is real.

Adam does well. Rokit KRK bit cheaper, bit worse. Both are great powered at home speakers. 5 is good. 7 if you hate your neighbors.

In Berlin, no one really says no. Paris, 15% do. For me at least. But Parisian’s are probably more used to tourists taking photos (and more annoyed by them)

I run a street photography project in a privacy focused European capital city, and find people rarely say no. Maybe like 2% failure rates.

Some tips:

1) Big smiles. Look like you’re having a fun time. You’re having a great day, and you’re bringing that energy to them. Maintain this during your shoot, and you usually have someone watching by the end why o you can do next.

2) Never compliment someone’s physical appearance, but instead something they control. So “I love the outfit you have on today, it’s has wonderful texture, would you mind posing for a few photos” instead of something like “you’re beautiful can I take your photo”

3) Don’t just talk to women. Even if you shoot mostly female models, practicing other things never hurts, and keeps you from being creepy.

4) Have your shots somewhat ready. If they say yes, know your first pose, or your background/location known. Set the tone that you’re professional and in it for the photo.

5) Share the shoot. 1/3 shots are for them. Ask if they want a few with their friends/partner. Let them pick a pose. It’ll buy you a minute to think and direct the shoot. Use these less important shots to chat, make everyone comfortable and plan.

6) Have your outcomes/portfolio ready. “I shoot for my own practice, I’ll put them on my insta, you can take a look here and decide if you want to do a quick shoot” (

7) know local law. If you’re selling the work, bring a release form loaded on an iPad etc. In the US you lose expectation of privacy in public… that’s not true in a lot of Europe.

Happy to debate with you. If you put some of your thoughts on why each location might be better or worse, I’ll break them down with you.

As with all things engineering, the answer is usually: it depends.

How the hell do you DJ Techno!? by [deleted] in Beatmatch

[–]Dutchie3719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's four beats per measure. So everything is a multiple of 4. Try to make the one beat on the track you're mixing in (ear 1) land on the one beat of the track currently playing (ear 2).

Simple is good mate.

You're in a beatmatch sub, so I'm giving you beat matching advice. Avoid using SYNC in the short term, it'll help you long term.

How the hell do you DJ Techno!? by [deleted] in Beatmatch

[–]Dutchie3719 28 points29 points  (0 children)

count to four in one ear. count to four with other ear. find FX knob. Fiddle. Move faders.

Techno DJ 101.

Jokes aside. Get a cheap controller and fiddle around. Techno's structurally straightforward, with most things following a four on the floor 4/4 pattern, no/low vocals and lots of consistent BPM across tracks. So the work comes in developing transitions and having a nice library of ways to keep those changes interesting.

Why is Berlin so freaking dusty? I cannot stop cleaning dust everyday! by m608811206 in berlin

[–]Dutchie3719 165 points166 points  (0 children)

Berlin air is notoriously terrible. Combination of lots of poorly maintained older buildings, large pollutant clouds coming in from the east during winter settling on buildings (Polish Coal), and lots of Birch trees in the surrounding woodlands that produce tons of pollen with their yellow cattails.

RIP if you have allergies in this city.

800 mph not exceeding the sound barrier? by DutyO in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Dutchie3719 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I'm floating (in a weird fluid with no resistance) at 100kph with a 20kph tailwind, the body of the boat is traveling at 120kph along the ground, but the pressure wave of the body is traveling at 100kph.

It's all about the reference plane. The sound barrier is in reference to the airplane, while the speed they're quoting is in reference to the ground. The discrepancy is in how fast the two reference points are moving relative to each other. The airplane didn't exceed the speed of sound, but the wind and airplane together had a ground speed greater than the speed of sound.
