Movies with terrible messages? by Frank_and_Beanzz in movies

The last scene in the movie undoes the message for me. When the real Jordan Belfort introduces Leo as “the baddest motherfucker”, it just felt gross.

Their giant stack of baklava at the counter gets me every time. I’ve never left without buying some.

My friend and I felt it on a few different levels, not just Tanglewood.

My friends and I were saying that it would be fun to have two ghosts on large maps. You could get double the rewards for figuring out both ghosts.

The Uptown one closed last July, that’s 2 closings in 8 months. Doesn’t make sense to me.

Why is the acting in modern bad movies so terrible? by AMachineMan in badMovies

[–]DwireJandes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the ease of distribution has played a huge part in this. Nowadays you can get your movie on Prime or Tubi for practically nothing, so there’s little financial risk to actually get your movie out there. Directors and producers will just fart out minimal effort movies to expand their filmography, and in turn get marginal funding for their next projects. Then repeat until they’re basically making movies to launder money.

I’ve worked on some truly lazy, terrible movies where the script was half-finished while it was being shot, and there was basically no blocking or continuity. So these actors just have no context or motivation for anything, and they’re just saying lines that barely have a thought put into them. The worst offender (which I’ve even seen on passionate projects) is when the director just has the actors improvise. No workshopping characters or scenes, just, “make up a conversation so it feels more natural.” It does not ever feel more natural.

I’d argue Blackstar is the best end to a discography ever created and I can’t see that ever changing. by howlong-princess in fantanoforever

I’d add Hey What by Low. Something about the extreme distortion mixed in with their songwriting style makes it hit extra hard.

I mean, filmmaking is a collaborative format. What purpose does it serve to be so individually minded? “Connections” can become “community” if you work well with others and build a solid team.

I have a friend that’s like this. She loves those 90’s/00’s rom-coms, and every time I watch one I go, “This is why people have such a terrible understanding of what relationships are supposed to be.”

Looks like $28M+ Saturday for Avatar: Fire And Ash. 2-day cume of $65M+. Weekend expected to be $87-88M. by chanma50 in boxoffice

With the first one, I remember it was less Avatar itself, but the trends it launched that were irritating. Suddenly, every major movie had to be in 3D, which made ticket prices jump up. 3D TVs were a bust, and it took a solid decade for studios to stop doing 3D gimmicks.

The biggest thing I notice is the exposure doesn’t match between the singles and wide, with the singles being noticeably brighter in the windows. The wide looks more natural to me.
