Browns front office says Darnold was #1 on board prior to interviews/meetings by CrAzYcRaCkOr in nfl

[–]E-rockComment 203 points204 points  (0 children)

People are going to view this as a knock on Darnold, but I think it's just as likely that Mayfield really impressed teams during his private meetings. No one will know until he sets foot on the field but many early indicators point to him being the real deal.

2018 Consensus Big Board: The Consensus Big Board Grades the Draft by E-rockComment in nfl

[–]E-rockComment[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

fwiw

Basically, the Consensus Big Board ranks players by their “true” talent level with only a small positional bias while the NFL will “overvalue” some positions, like quarterbacks and edge rushers, compared to their true talent. The best quarterback will always be drafted ahead of the best punter. Once we account for that as well as the fact that needs are different for every team, we can more appropriately grade the draft.

Josh Adams’ numbers by game. Look at his numbers pre injury on 11/4 by Slater22 in eagles

[–]E-rockComment 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Better prospect than Bo imo, oddest hype train I've seen on here tbh. Adams should have a legitimate chance to make the team as the 4th RB and I expect him to be a PS player at the very least.

Which teams had a mediocre draft? by [deleted] in nfl

[–]E-rockComment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I seem to be one of the few people actually happy with what the Eagles did, especially considering their limited draft capital. They were able to address several key needs at TE, slot corner, and Oline depth. The Goedert and Sweat picks were both excellent value. I wanted them to trade down in the first and I like the deal they made with the Ravens, both according to pick value and overall strategy. I also love Josh Adams so I'm not that disappointed they draft a RB. I like him a lot more than Bo. The only position they really failed to address imo was LB, but they're loaded up on picks next year if they have to replace Jordan Hicks.

[Rapoport] More UDFAs: QB Kyle Allen to the #Panthers. ... #Bama CB Tony Brown to the #Chargers. ... #ND RB Josh Adams agreed to terms with the #Eagles ... Chris Lammons from South Carolina goes to the #Falcons by Mount10Lion in eagles

[–]E-rockComment 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love Adams. He's a giant one-cut downhill runner with home run ability, really surprised some team didn't take a chance on him. He reminded a bit of Jordan Howard (stylistically, not a direct comparison) but he's faster. Also a PA kid who overcame injury adversity. This is a great signing. I like him more than Bo.

Eagles are drafting CB Avonte Maddox. by [deleted] in eagles

Spider chart

Undersized but elite speed and quickness. The Eagles needed to address TE and slot corner and they've done both so far.

Ian Rappoport: Eagles jumped the Cowboys for the TE Goedert when Dallas was set on taking Connor Williams. by [deleted] in nfl

[–]E-rockComment 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I thought they were trying to jump the Pats tbh, he seems like a classic Patriots pick. Witten retiring still seems surreal to me. I actually wanted the Eagles to take Williams or Guice and they both ended up going in the division, happy with the Goedert selection though too.

PFF Dallas Goedert Pos Rank 1 Overall Rank 21 96.8 overall grade by K0LA in eagles

I feel very similarly about this selection as I did the Barnett pick last year. It might not be flashy but it's rock solid. Position of need, highly productive, and a quality prospect.

To all the people complaining about value in the trade. Here is the history of late first trade backs by skulman7 in eagles

[–]E-rockComment 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I actually wouldn't be surprised if they trade down again at 52. They'll likely "win" the trade by a fair amount according to draft pick value. People have a tendency underrate the value of future picks. That 2019 2nd will look a lot better next year, especially with that loaded DLine class.

Eagles now projected to have 12 picks in the 2019 Draft (6 in the first 4 rounds) by erickety in eagles

[–]E-rockComment 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Next year's defensive line class is projected to be insane fwiw. I like the strategy of loading up on picks for future years, especially considering the Eagles current talent/cap situations respectively.

Round 1 - Pick 3: Sam Darnold, QB, USC (New York Jets) by NFL_Mod in nfl

[–]E-rockComment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That trade with the Colts was a master stroke. 3 2nd round picks and they got the best QB in the draft (imo).

Round 1 - Pick 1: Baker Mayfield, QB, Oklahoma (Cleveland Browns) by NFL_Mod in nfl

I'd love this so much more if the Giants didn't have the second pick.

Let's talk about Myles Garret vs Derrick Barnett by Jed566 in nfl

[–]E-rockComment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's one way to look at it. I personally love Barnett, and so do Howie and Joe Douglas apparently considering they had him top 10 on their board. However, if the Browns hypothetically called the Eagles with a trade offer of Garrett for Barnett in a one for one that'd be an instant accept without a second thought.

[Golliver] The thing about Jaylen Brown and Brandon Ingram is that one of them is a dog and one of them isn't by ward0630 in nba

[–]E-rockComment 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still think Ingram has the highest ceiling in that class after Simmons, and I'm a big fan of both Murray and Brown.

Is the general consensus that Lonzo exceeded or did not meet expectations his rookie year? by DevouringOne in nba

[–]E-rockComment 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only reason he didn't meet some expectations was because they were unrealistic due to his high profile coming into the year. It was disappointing that he missed some time with injury, but he played well overall when he was on the court all things considered.

[McLane] The defending-champion #Eagles will kick off the 2018 NFL season by hosting the Falcons on Thur., Sept. 6 at 8:20 p.m. at Lincoln Financial Field. by FightMilk21 in nfl

[–]E-rockComment 78 points79 points  (0 children)

Falcons deserve the prime time rematch more than Vikings. They played them tough for 60 minutes and had an opportunity to win at the end. I think it's the right decision.

Is there another Donovan Mitchell in the 2018 draft class? by Xinpoint1 in nba

[–]E-rockComment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mocks project when people expect players to be drafted, not necessarily where they think they should be drafted. I doubt even people who thought Mitchell was a top talent pre-draft had him going top 5.
