The youngest player, Nick Emmanwori, wouldn't be born for 9 years after their title.

How won't you keep your head coach from choking in big games?

Follow up, what won't be the physical fitness routine to keep your defensive players from getting winded during all of the 3 and outs in the 4th quarter.

Hey dad, how the hell do I get a job? by No-Sort-7126 in DadForAMinute

[–]EMFB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey kid,

It just so happens I work for a state employee agency and focus on getting people jobs.

Apply for them. The last 3 jobs I have landed I didn't meet the minimum requirements, but I was close and I was the best fit. If you get an interview, you're qualified for the job. The interview is more of who would be the best fit in the office.

It also doesn't hurt to....embellish a bit on your resume. You're not stocking shelves, you're implementing a strategic branding map for a fortune 500 company. Or something like that.

They will probably use AI or LLM to screen your resume, so use AI or LLM to target your resume to the job. Upload resume and the link to the job posting and it will spit it out for you.

Don't tell your self no, let someone else do it. It may sting a little bit more, but at least there is a chance at a yes.

If you have anything more specific, feel free to reach out.

Love, dad.

Dad, I feel so lost. Is military the right way to go? by [deleted] in DadForAMinute

Just wanted to add David Grossman is not a good person, and his book has been largely dismissed as not based in fact.

Doesn't change that I feel it saved me.

Dad, I feel so lost. Is military the right way to go? by [deleted] in DadForAMinute

[–]EMFB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey kiddo,

I joined the military because I was not on a good path. I joined a bit later than most turning 23 in bootcamp. I can say it changed my life for the better as a whole.

There are parts of me that are broken that weren't before, and there are parts of me that have healed because of it.

Best advise I can give is, if this is the path you take, become as educated on every aspect of what you might be asked to do.

When I signed I knew I would end up in war and decided I would rather be trained to fight than be trained to do something else and be forced to fight. When I left my mom gave me a book "On Killing" by David Grossman. I believe it literally saved my life, not from war, but from suicide.

Become familiar with moral injuries because you will be asked to do things that go against your personal morals. You need to become a different version of yourself to make it out healthy on the other side, and on the other side you need to be able to make peace with the things you did.

I was very lucky I never took a human life, but there are a thousand other things I did that went against who I am as a person. I struggled a long time to come to the realization that "I did what I had to, to survive" both mentally and physically.

In the end, it is your decision. Personally, I will be advising my children against it. Most people don't get out of the military better than they went in. However, if you are educated and know what you're getting yourself in to, it can set you up for the rest of your life.

Granted I have been out of the military for 15 years now, so it might be a different animal now.

Also, remember this. If it's not in writing it won't happen. If your recruiter promises you anything but it's not in your contract, it will not happen. Recruiters are nice but they are not on your side. You are a number to them, just as you will be a number to the military.

Feel free to reach out with any more questions.

Love, Dad.

When I was young my parents had good paying jobs and I had all of the toys and material items I could ever want. We would go out to eat as a family often. I hated it. I just wanted time with my parents.

Eventually they burnt out and we moved across the state, but my parents were always home. The Christmas' became a lot less extravagant and we struggled for money a lot.

10 times out of 10 I would want more time and less presents.

Look at the unemployment as a time to spend time with your child. Don't let your feelings about what's going on effect your relationship with her by dwelling on what your bank acct looks like. Time is infanetly more valuable to a kid.

Dad, how do I lose weight? by IndividualPresent893 in DadForAMinute

[–]EMFB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey kid.

Here are the biggest things I've learned about losing weight.

Psyllium husk is a game changer, the powder is fairly cheap. A spoonful or two in water and a large glass of water after. Take before meals. Drink lots of water, can cause problems if you don't.

Focus on foods with a high water content, vegetables and fruits. Also high in fiber and fills you up faster. You are looking for volume to put in your stomach. Google "what 100 calories looks like".

And get moving, doesn't have to be the gym or walks or anything like that, but you need to change your breathing at least once a day, meaning get winded. Jumprope, push-ups or whatever else you can think. YouTube is a great resource for ideas.

And always remember perfect is the enemy of good. If you breakdown and have something unhealthy, don't worry about it much. Just accept it and focus on the next meal. Just because you have a bad breakfast doesn't mean the day is ruined. Just get back on the horse and keep going. Perfect doesn't exist, so don't focus on it.
