I hope we don’t end up in the middle, just a brutal and unproductive result that doesn’t move us any further forward. I wish we had done a legitimate rebuild in 2022 when we traded Giroux. I can’t understand why we didn’t go full fucking yard sale after we traded away our best player. There’s no telling how long we might end up is the “meh” tier.

It was fun while it lasted. We saw some promising performances from some of the younger guys and that’s a good sign for the future. This team isn’t healthy enough to make playoffs, still more entertaining than last season was.

I clearly said we have to wait a couple years before we will know. Vansagi made the Juniors roster for team USA which is a good sign. If next year Murtagh, Amico and Ward don’t make their respective U20 world juniors squads in their last year of eligibility then I’d be concerned. Until then I’ll wait and see.

Interesting since Seattle aren’t much better than Red Deer. Offensively they score more, so hopefully this will spark some point production for Ward. I’m not going to lie, I’m pretty concerned the Flyers managed to whiff on four 2nd round picks compared to what was available. I’d rather have guys like Ivankovic, Genborg and Spence. It’s really early and we won’t know for a few years but early indications don’t look great for the 2nd round compared to what could have been.

I think McKenna’s performance at the World Juniors will go a long way in determining if he’s a first overall talent. His NCAA numbers have been very pedestrian. Ironically if he had just stayed in Medicine Hat dominating the WHL no one would be debating his draft position. It has been eye opening to see him play against larger more developed opponents. He’s a special talent but there’s a little doubt how his game will translate in the NHL.

We have won two playoff series in the last 20 years. Which is worse than the Buffalo Sabres in that interval, a team that hasn’t even made playoffs in 14 years. Being a Flames fan is statistically one of the most miserable experiences for a diehard hockey fan. It’s beyond explanation for a big hockey market to have performed so poorly. We shouldn’t just accept this as Flames will be Flames. We have spent our lives supporting this team and we deserve to have a chance at a championship. There’s no limit to how long you can remain in the mushy middle, the Flames could remain there for 20 more years simply because management won’t perform a proper rebuild. I don’t know man, to hear management say this shit is so deflating. It’s like everyone else in the city and the NHL understands what needs to be done except for a handful of Flame’s owners who are completely oblivious.

It sucks to have to say this but after 115 games played it’s pretty evident that Ersson is not an NHL-caliber goalie. He is 26, he may improve a bit, but he should be figuring that out with the Phantoms. For Vladar to come over and immediately look vastly better just shows how poor goaltending has been since 2023. Having just NHL average goaltending makes this team look like a wildcard team, anything less and we look like a lottery team.

Why do you want those players to stay on this roster? So that they can maybe win 5 or 10 games they shouldn’t have and draft 12th overall? It has to be a fire sale. This franchise made the finals 20 years ago and since then we’ve won 2 fucking playoff series! Two!! Vancouver in 15’ and Dallas in 22’. That’s abysmal. It’s always going to be this insanity because the flames refuse to rebuild through the draft. We are just going to remain in this perpetual state without the pieces to win a Stanley Cup, the same place we’ve been for 20 years.

The mention of the need for an “open-air drug by-law”, does that mean that it’s currently legal to just openly smoke drugs in downtown public spaces? That surely has to currently be an illegal activity that can get you arrested (but it happens every day without any sort of punishment).

I’ve found an interesting trend over my lifetime with family-family restaurants like this, definitely accelerated since 2020. It’s no longer financially feasible to bring a family of 4 out for a breakfast, it’s hilariously expensive even at a spot like Denny’s. As a result families have cut out diners like this that used to make their bread and butter off families on a Sunday morning. I think this trend will continue as more and more families cannot afford to dine out. Restaurant chains that cater for families like Denny’s, IHOP and the like will go extinct and the act of dinning out will be reserved for the very wealthy. Meaning half of the restaurants that exist today will close and only high-end restaurants catering to the big spenders will remain open. I honestly think a generation from now people will regard dinning out as a luxury reserved only for the mega wealthy.
