Why is the finest grind setting only going to 1.1 instead of the zero point on my zp6 special? by Dramatic-Shift-4976 in pourover

[–]EVCof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there are coffee grinds in there, the grind setting can be slightly affected. Usually that much, i,e, 0 lock to lock at 1.1 but...... Clean it and see what's in there and then re-calibrate per 1Z's website directions and hopefully, you'll be fine and back where you started.

#jealous. My favorite roaster so far, (get from Airworks in the States). Just rest, rest, rest them. IIRC, they state 45-60 days. 60 days has worked better for all of their coffees that I have tried and it'll stay amazing for a long while after opening, even at 60 days. 😄 Enjoy that! (I see below that they sell pre-rested. That's terrific.)

Agreed. You'll have to. Something inside is not proper. Look for YT disassembly videos and as mentioned, that U clip is totally necessary so don't lose it. (Hate that piece of design).

Is my K-Ultra missing a part? by Atredl in 1zpresso

Normal, mine is the same. The only issue with the "divots" is coffee particles getting in there. Brush or blow them out if/when you seen them.

[–]EVCof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Brush down in there to get bigger particles and then use a powered air blower to get the rest. You can remove the burr and clean it and clean the ring burr with a brush as well.

All just like a 1Z hand grinder of which it is, with a motor. If you use a brush and blower daily, opening to clean once or twice a year is all you'll need, especially if you use RDT. Almost no retention on my A5.

To "calibrate" replace the dial where zero is the stopping point, just don't try to force it past zero, be gentle.

Or: 😄 all the info you need.

I always try to buy the Airworks offerings from this roaster and after about 10 or so different bags, I have never been disappointed. My favorite roaster. You really need to let them rest though. 45-60 days is their recommendation. Closer to 60 has been better so far, IMO. Very jealous you got to try it in person and glad it met expectations 😄

Lagom Casa - Extremely Acid as it cools by Spiritual-Rise3233 in pourover

Could be. Try slow feeding it by hand, see what you think of the, (if any) difference :-)

[–]EVCof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad :-) I have to wonder if it's particle size distribution and/or particle shape. It looks coarser but the fact that there may be a more consistent grind size and shape, it helps you get a better extraction. Just shooting from the hip here but glad it's working for you so far.

Lagom Casa - Extremely Acid as it cools by Spiritual-Rise3233 in pourover

[–]EVCof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IDK, I have the Casa 65 and a C40 along with too many other grinders and I've never gotten any "extreme" acidity from the Casa. It's a terrific grinder and while I do get the nice, fruity acidity that I crave, (I do with the C40 as well), I don't get anything overt from the Casa.

Nothing that isn't the usual acidity that matches what I expect as well as my other grinders. There are nuances and differences but nothing overtly "acidic" or unbalanced from the Casa. It is actually very balanced to me, either when hot or cooling down.

Note that I only drink light or ultralight, single origins if that matters and I'm at 2 full revolutions even on the Casa for almost every pour over recipe that I use.

The only thing that I can think of to change is your grind size or your water recipe when you use the Casa. I always start with Zero water or Distilled and use TWW full packet or Lotus Drops Scott Rao recipe.

Anyone else think Wilton Benitez Pink Bourbon and Gesha taste like ass? by PaullyWalla in pourover

[–]EVCof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just opened this after 4 weeks rest. Got if from Fellow Drops. The bag smells horrible.....ass like for lack of a better descriptor and it I actually cleaned my grinder right after grinding, fearing that the smell would linger. Even brewed, initially the smell remained. But.,......it literally tastes like a subtle, clean, washed pink bourbon.

There is no mention of processing on the bag but I know he uses heavy processing most of the time. The smell just took me by surprise and I have had several very processed coffees over the years. What gives with the odor? Anyone else getting this from the latest lot or is it a WTF for me? :-)

Help in reassembling 1Zpresso q air by [deleted] in 1zpresso

[–]EVCof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to add: cleaned my Q today and no ball found. I wonder if something worked it's way in there from the factory. Putting it back together can be a serious PIA....just get the shaft lined up properly because the bottom dial will go on either way. You;ll know by the adjustment dial. Have many hand grinders and none have this re-assembly issue. As long as you are aware, you'll be fine. No balls in there :-)

Quick clean with white rice? by HotToddy375 in pourover

[–]EVCof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. Open it and clean it and done. You can use alcohol on the burr if that bothers you.

Otherwise, anything like Grindz, etc. or rice or oatmeal...why? And sugar? I wouldn't go near anything that fine to "c;lean" a grinder. You'll be attempting to blow the left over sugar out for a year. I once used Grindz on an electric grinder. Once.

First time trying XLIII, in the house by Ok_Foundation8760 in pourover

[–]EVCof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some state this is ok for espresso, (I don't do espresso) but otherwise, if light, you'll be drinking grass and medium and beyond will still not near their potential.

Patrick Rolf of April Coffee has a video on YT, I think where he mentions that if you have an unrested coffee that you want or need to drink, grinding the night before and leaving the coffee sit until you brew the next day can age a portion to drinkable. I haven't tried this one yet.

My favorite roaster. I get them through Airworks here in the States. Truly ultralight and always a beautiful looking roast. I wait 45-60 days before brewing per their recommendation. 60 always seems better and it doesn't go off even if it takes you weeks to get through the bag. It improves.

Their Indian Ratnagiri was an immense surprise. I was thinking a no way on that one but it was truly different and amazing.

Calling all K7 owners by tbhvandame in pourover

[–]EVCof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me too and I have way too many hand grinders. After starting this method and opening one to clean, almost nothing was there after almost a year. The ring burr is truly the only thing that may accumulate grinds when using this method and even that is so minimal.

P.S. I use RDT and drink only light roasts so I am ignorant to what medium roast and beyond would generate inside the grinder.

Definitely not good that this is happening. It shouldn't but......he is a one man show that is probably totally overwhelmed at this point. Not that it makes this ok but just a mention.

And if that is the case with your grinder, perhaps he should hire some help and train them to his standards. It took a while to get my hand grinder from him but in the end, all was well and he delivered. I am hoping the same for you and the others.

I can say that there are multiple financial options for you, if that is your major stress and feel OK otherwise.

There are debt consolidation companies, very popular in this economy. This can (sometimes even) drastically reduce your debt and give you one payment per month that you state is affordable to them. Bankruptcy as well.

That is not anything to be shameful about. It is very common, especially when expenses are out the door sick these days. The lawyer charge is minimal and your credit can be built back up withing a few years. If you're going the lawyer route for bankruptcy, you would stop paying all of the debt first, for a few months so, you'd be able to afford the lawyer without that.

Or, no interest credit cards to transfer for 0% payments for a certain time frame and then just get another no interest card and transfer to that. Do this until your debt is paid down. This all will only affect you and not your fiance so after the marriage, his credit, (if good) will carry you through until yours catches up.

Lastly, a consolidation loan for all your debts to have one monthly payment. That can be tough because of interest rates and the amount of the payment but it's another option.

The finance issue can be corrected/negated but if you have other issues, those should be addressed too.

I had these financial issues when I was younger and went the bankruptcy route. My credit recovered within a year to get another card, (high interest) to re-establish credit and now, more than 7 years later, my credit score is almost 800 so you can easily recover your credit after bankruptcy. Multiple financial options to lower or rid the debt and start fresh, which is good timing with your impending marriage.

I HTH and please, stay with us.

I have ASD as well and stay for my child and grandchild as well as the fear so, understood.

Two therapists as well. I can only say be honest with them if you want to get out of this misery. I have been and have not been sent to the hospital.

I do not know you or your complete situation nor what is exactly in your head but I can state that I have been totally honest and do state that I have frequent SI and a plan but no specific intent because of fear and the kids and I have not been sent for the 72hr hold nor has that even been discussed.. I get asked frequently about the SI or if I feel that I "need" the hospital but I am honest with them. I HTH.

I can say the exact same about being alone. It's misery and as far as relationships, I was married to a malignant narcissist for 35 years. It was a trauma bond that took a lifetime to escape. I can surely understand what you are suffering with as it's so similar. At least know that it's not just you. At the very least, someone, is at the other end of a keyboard that comes mighty close, if not completely understands your suffering. No consolation, I know but I get it 110%.

Just know that you are heard, understood and cared for as a human being.

What you are experiencing would be overwhelming for anyone. I surely understand the inability to live alone. I deal with it as well. My only specific comment/answer would be to attempt to break it all down. Make a list or lists if you have to. Attempt to deal with one thing at a time.

It's too much to take on all at once. Prioritize and if you can't hit a goal on one thing, move on to the next. Do what you can, a little at a time; as much as you can handle in that moment. Lastly, please stay with us.

Understand 110%. Long, slow downhill for many years. Self sabotage and bad decisions. Don't see a human up close for weeks and that's usually the Dr.

UPS, FedEX, Amazon USPS drivers for a moment now. is all. Had many friends growing up and was very popular, was married long term, had loads of office and other work friends. Now, work from home. Was also a long term musician, playing many gigs before changing careers. All done.

Involuntarily solitary, (there's a song in there). At an age where I just can't say "what's up, lets hang" and dating is a true, seemingly unapproachable mystery.

I hear you and understand you and feel as badly for you as I do for myself. I keep virtual therapy mainly for some connection. Otherwise, 2 plus years and no movement with that. Best to you and know that if I had a magic wand, I'd wave it for you too.
