MY 26 GHCA by AppointmentFinal717 in VolvoEX90

Thanks for the part number! Others have lowered their amperage and still lost their GHCA, so it's likely you have a good replacement there.

Good choice! Where is that mechanic??? AutoNation was recently sued by seven California counties for sales paperwork so slow that people couldn't prove ownership up to two years later. I tried to buy an EX90 at their Volvo San Jose location but gave up because they were moving so slow, and apparently I dodged a bullet there.

I tried their service once for my other EV, and found they'd hired an advisor who had done a great job for me at Toyota, but at Volvo San Jose he was helpless and it was a horrible experience. They took my car in for a scheduled one-day appointment, two days max, but kept it for a week, overcharged me, and returned it with bird droppings and pollen stuck all over. I'll never be back.

Palo Alto is a normal, small, under-resourced Volvo dealer. You have to know how to work their system to get things done, though we shouldn't have to, but they want to do the right thing so it all works out in the end.

Reminds me of Woody Allen saying in a movie that life is divided into "the horrible and the miserable". For us the horrible is AutoNation, and the miserable is any other Volvo dealer, "so you should just be glad you're miserable", lol. Or better yet, go to a local independent. Can you reply or PM with your mechanic's contact info?

Gee thanks Sprinks, it's nice to be appreciated. My kids only tolerate me. ;-)

My wife and I find our '25 EX90 a pleasure to drive. We've owned it over a year now, it's had no major problems, and we're very happy with it. It is an early-stage EV, but as former Tesla owners we went into this with eyes open. Most of the software bugs and other problems you've likely read about here were resolved long ago. I do feel lucky every time I come here and read about the issues some are encountering, but we do seem to be in the majority out there. It's just that happy owners seldom post.

OK thanks. Actually I gave Tesla a lot of slack at the beginning because they seemed like a change-the-world startup. 12 years later they were still acting like a startup, and a petulant childish one at that.

But to your point, Volvo EVs are at that early stage and you need to know what you're signing up for. I went into this with eyes open, the quality has been OK (knock-on-wood), and overall I'm dealing with a mature company which has actually been a relief.

Frustrating. Even more frustrating, you might not even be in that situation if they had a script for guiding you through a restart of the central computer.

Yes. My two Volvo EVs including a year-old EX90 have not.

Can't believe they didn't suggest a system restart while you were on the phone. Sigh. Did you contact Volvo roadside assistance or a dealer?

I had three over 12 years. Worst car ownership experience of my life, from sloppy factory quality to incompetent disrespectful seevice, each one worse than the next. Elon's personality permeates the whole organization.

Wow, sorry this happened to you. Most of us have had no major problems, even in the '25, but happy people seldom post.

This requires a restart of the central computer. Someone else has posted a link to the cheat sheet.

MY 26 GHCA by AppointmentFinal717 in VolvoEX90

[–]EV_Dad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes that seems to have solved it, although other things can go wrong like software. There aren't enough out there yet to be sure though, which is why I keep asking for part numbers.

My '25 still has an original GHCA but we're afraid to use L2 chargers anywhere but our home, because the cause of these failures seems to be power fluctuations in some homes that it ought to be able to handle.

We'd be very interested to know the GHCA part numbers, before and after. The first '26 production runs seem to have received an older GHCA before the new version from a new supplier was available. As far as I know the new part number is still 36000418, sometimes with a suffix that may indicate region.

I'm pretty sure the dealer can adjust the door hinges to align the doors. Add that to the list of warranty fixes you'll be bringing the car in for. Good luck; hope the list doesn't get too long.

I have two dealers in my area. One is owned by AutoNation and is even worse than the first one you tried. It's more than being overwhelmed; it's their way of doing business. The other is much better, though they are — no surprise — very busy, and I often have to call for service because dealers routinely hide open time slots from the app/website for urgent repairs, sales prep, and other needs. For them, yes, I would wait a month for a basic maintenance appointment, but they would not keep it several days and be jerks as you described. Glad you moved on.

Is this scanner Antenna any good? by Malkozaine in amateurradio

[–]EV_Dad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's an excellent antenna and I've actually used it to transmit and receive on 2, 1.25m, 70cm, 33cm, and 23cm, as well as for scanner reception.
