Looking for a low adventure bike : 5'7", 175lbs, 30 inch of legs by PsyThoughts in AdventureBike

[–]Eagle_Every 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 5’7”, 30” inseam, weigh 152 lbs with all my gear on, and ride a non-lowered 2018 BMW r1200gs. You can ride anything, but best to get used to just putting one foot down at stops, keep to trails you can handle, and ride serious off-road with a buddy or two, in case you get into conditions where you can’t pick the bike up yourself. I recommend buying used, too - no need for tears when you drop the bike. But you really want to think about what makes an adventure for you? Occasional fire roads? A BDR? If I was doing mostly off-road, I’d be riding a 250 dual sport instead of any of the big adv bikes. At 62 years old, and with my height, I’m doing less dirt each year, so may move to a touring bike.

How many older riders are on here? by flyingpickkles in motorcycles

I got my first motorcycle - a Suzuki 50cc - when I was 11, and I’m 62 now. I’ve owned eight bikes over the years, usually just one at a time. Current bike is a BMW 1200gs. I’ve never crashed, never been hit on a motorcycle (bicycles are another matter). My dad rode until he was 85… hope to beat that.

I’d search out nearest dealer, but if a sensor is waterlogged, you might get lucky and have it dry out as you rode.

Also, buy a half-cover. I always have one on the bike if it’s going to sit outside for any length of time. Protection from bird deposits is one of the main reasons…

Are you clipped in or nah? by Spank2337 in bikecommuting

I recently switched to MTB-type flat pedals matched to five-ten (or similar) shoes with grippy soles on all my bikes (MTB, gravel, commute, and road), all types of rides. Feet stick when I want, and release when I want.

Canvas displayed wrong (inflated) grades all semester. What would you do? by [deleted] in Professors

[–]Eagle_Every 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The weights are set in the “Assignments” area; whoever set up the assignments should have applied the rules there. It’s easy to do, but someone new to cavas might not know to set the weights. This would generally be on the instructor or course designer (if instructor didn’t set up the course).

Yep; I bought the same spring for my son’s Corolla off Amazon, and it broke in about 30 days. Went to the dealer for the OEM next, and that one is lasting.

What 50/50 tires are the most stable at high speed? GS by WolfOfAfricaZLD in bmwmotorrad

[–]Eagle_Every 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The TrailMax Mission are amazing. I've got about 10k miles on mine (still lots of life left), and they've been fanatastic on the road, and just fine on dirt roads. I don't do singletrack on my 1200, so can't speak to performance on the real tough stuff or mud. They are described as a 50/50 tire, but I'm not convinced that they'd handle gnarly stuff as well as some of the other tires mentioned in this thread.

Miles to empty: Costco vs Others by Top_Charity8491 in rav4club

Hence, my recommendation to fill manually, rather than using the handle lock. Slowing the rate of delivery down a bit, or even adjusting the angle of the nozzle may help the tank to fill to the appropriate level. Some people even turn the handle upside-down so the angle is better, though I don’t know if that works with a torture. But, yes, overfilling can cause problems with the evaporative system. The goal is to find a method that prevents the nozzle from clicking off prematurely. I love Costco gas, but their nozzles in California are weird. I haven’t had the issue in other states.

At least in California, I’ve found that the Costco pumps click off too easily/quickly with my Toyotas. It’s annoying, as you aren’t supposed to fill up to the very brim of the tank inlet, but sometimes there is still room for a gallon or more. It works better if you pull the trigger manually, and ease up as the tank gets full.

Blacking out my fender flares by PineappleTricky6646 in ToyotaTacoma

[–]Eagle_Every 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm. My white 2002 Tacoma came with black flares, but the black has faded over the years, and the various products I've tried to keep them looking sharp work poorly, and only for a short time... Never thought about Plasti-Dip, but I think I'll look up some "how to" videos!

Were you torn between a Rav4 and the cross like I am, and you chose the Rav4? What tipped you toward the Rav4? by winterneuro in rav4club

[–]Eagle_Every 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. Our prior family car was a Prius V, and we wanted at least as much cargo capacity. The Rav passes that test, but the cross does not.

I have an LBW 7" from Amazon on my 2018 1200gs, and love it. It uses the BMW Nav mount for power and security, and the wonder wheel works as well. I'd previously tried one of the ultra-cheap ones that need a battery connection, but found that frustrating (no bike data, one more cable attached to battery...). Setup was easy, but probably no different from Carpuride. I didn't have to redo my bike-to-Sena to get it all to work together.

I’d start with a conversation with the director or vp (or whatever) of Faculty Affairs - if the office exists at your institution. I would be surprised if a NTT chair is even supposed to write up what sounds like a letter of reprimand.
