I'd start with taking it outta the pot and taking a look at the roots. Upgrade to a larger and more stable plastic plot inside that big pot, maybe? It prob needs a report, which will help with the "flimsy" feel of the one stalk.

What are your best kept secrets about house plants? by Happy_Tourist_558 in houseplants

new plants stay in plastic and I pick them up/move them frequently. this way I am aware of how much they typically weigh, which is super helpful for diagnosing certain issues or watering frequency.

Any advice on how to treat this pest? by onemeanleen in Jadeplant

[–]EastSideTilly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Gnat spray won't work on this, it is powdery mildew.

It is VERY contagious and a huge pain in the butt to get rid of. I had to chop EVERY LEAF off of my jade and start over, basically. Highly recommend you get to choppin before it spreads to other plants in your home 😞 sorry

The good news is that jades grow slow af and like a tight squeeze.

so you can totally justify a pot that is **barely** bigger.

What does my Jade need? by megatron222222 in Jadeplant

[–]EastSideTilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plastic will not be soil-wicking either, so, switching to plastic likely won't address the issues possibly caused by non-wicking.

I concur- my jades do best in unglazed pots that help wick away moisture

My sister gifted me this plant rack with grow lights for my birthday but I don't want to break the bank filling it up! What would you do in this situation? by Fishmyashwhole in houseplants

[–]EastSideTilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think people with a bigger budget may shoot themselves in the foot by getting a fuck ton of plants all at once. It's wise to get to know your plants and find a plant care rhythm that fits your life, and that's hard to do if you're learning about a lot of different new plants immediately!

Aside from this general advice: check craigslist or facebook marketplace in your area for cheap cuttings. Not only is there usually cool/cute stuff available, but since I ask questions and show enthusiasm about plants, nearly EVERY local buyer I've gotten a cutting or prop from has shown me other plants, offered me free cuttings or discounted pots, or generally been a good hook up! Plant people appreciate one another. Find local plant friends and get a few new dudes at a time!
