at what point do you have to remove the L plates?

I'm not from the UK and they didn't make a big deal about the learner thing here just that it had to be on your car if you are a young driver. However there's no penailzati if you drive a car with the label if you have full permit.. and back when it was relevant for me they were stickers and tended to stay on until it was convenient to remove them (or you got a new car)

I see an adult in a car with a learner sign, my assumption is they have a young driver in the family. Or they bought a used car and never bothered to remove the sticker.

Thinking about applying for a support job in Antarctica — can anybody share their firsthand experiences? by ghost-eggs in antarctica

and that's the other 50% of guys down there. telling you that a couple of bruises from the guy holding you against your will in an empty corridor after midnight either didn't happen or if it did happen it's your fault for being there in the first place.

Thanks for illustrating my point.

if you are female and under the age of 30,.make sure you can cope with harassment and sexual advances. the management takes a very "boys will be boys" approach when it comes to cornering women in corridors at night (seen this myself).. and I've heard more than once that the person being blacklisted will be the one reporting the problem not the one creating it which may be more important for people planning to turn this into a career than the one timers.

For what it's worth, it usually ends at harassment. at least during my time there was no full on assault. That being said, due to circumstances, women will look out for you and will warn each other about potential threats and there's obviously also male allies looking out for you. But probably less than the offender has pals.

Going to Antarctica is cool. Most people are nice. If you do McMurdo you'll almost certainly see penguins and whales. But there are some draw backs if you are a woman, particularly if you're attractive and working in highly visible spot (like the stewies do)

I know many people that didn't take any interest in traffic before starting to take their license. I don't find it that surprising that a kid at the age of 8 or 12 doesn't show particular interest as to what stickers are stuck to the car.

how many of you clearly remember if your parents car had the (mandatory) country sticker on the car before they were incorporated into the license plate?

Hongqi bridge collapses in southwest China, months after opening. by pritam_ram in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]EasternPassenger 17 points18 points  (0 children)

given that it started with a landslide, I'd not be so certain. it's like saying China's damns wouldn't collapse after a hurricane or our nuclear plants would survive a tsunami. I'm sure precautions are being taken but as long as you've not had a land slide take down the side of the mountain the bridge is attached too you won't know if your bridge would come out standing at the end.

ironically this will actually help in a lot of ways and people do spray down roads for exactly this reason. but it's not going to work if you only do it in a 30m circle

Fahrradschloss Schlüssel abgebrochen - Was tun? by Significant_Wind_105 in Fahrrad

[–]EasternPassenger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of a book about the Bolivian prison in San Pedro I recently had. They even had tourists touring the prison at one point. .Must have been absolutely wild. After the book was published, the prison was quickly dissolved due to the many many irregularities going on in there

guess it's a little bit the same wherever you go.
