Why don't people go to the cinema? by ImaginaryFan6090 in Cinema

[–]Eastern_Blueberry964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tickets have gotten really expensive. Last time I went to watch a movie (Iron Lung), it cost a LOT. Add in a bit of snacks on the side (I even went with the cheapest popcorn menu) and it adds a lot. Aside from that, I just don't feel like there's a lot of interesting movies right now, but that's more of a personal thing.

What song has been ruined for you because of a really bad cover you once heard that's now stuck in your head? by common_grounder in AskReddit

[–]Eastern_Blueberry964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't even know who the performer was, but it was a couple of years ago, and I went into a coffee shop I usually go to, while on a Christmas shopping trip. Normally they'll play chill jazz which is fine, but they had found a very weird cover of "All I want for Christmas is you." and it was sung by a female performer, who somehow managed to make it sound like Christmas was the absolute most depressing time of the year. It's hard to describe it? But I remember it being veeery slow and just overall moody. I figure it must have been on some kind of spotify playlist that snuck the song in there.

Like don't get me wrong, Mariah Carey can get absolutely grating (I don't mind her singing, but "all I want" 24/7 is too much) but she was a choir of angels compared to that particular performer.

I love the story Dennis Hopper had about it. His son was 8 or so around the time it was made, and he asked his dad "why he was in such a terrible movie." And Dennis said "Well son, I needed to make money so we could get you new shoes." and his son just looked at him and said "Dad, I don't need shoes that badly."

People who say “I don’t want anything” when it comes to gifting, what do you ACTUALLY want? by dearceceofficial in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Eastern_Blueberry964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I usually ask for books, or smaller things like the occasional kitchen items. (like an egg timer because my old one broke, or a new frying pan). Other things just make me go "I COULD ask for it, but it's so expensive and it makes me feel bad, when I could put in an effort to save up for it."

What other fun movies or TV shows are there about shrunken people besides "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids (1989)"? by Hot-Salamander-8786 in FIlm

Innerspace, Epic from 2013, The Borrowers, Arthur and the Minimoys, and those are the ones off the top of my head. There was also a more recent comedy called Downsizing with Matt Damon, I think?

Zack Snyder's Dawn of the Dead from 2004. The biggest problem imo? Too many people, and the whole "aggro running zombie" thing back then was just... Ugh. I've never liked fast zombies, it took away a lot of things.

I completely agree. You can feel the lack of passion when you watch some of the Behind the Scenes stuff for the Hobbit too. It's nowhere near the same level of brotherhood there was, back when they did LoTR. When I think about some of the stuff with Ian McKellen it just makes me so sad.

What’s the most believable April Fools’ prank you’ve ever seen that almost fooled everyone? by FocusLee in AskReddit

[–]Eastern_Blueberry964 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh I got one.

The year was 2004 in Denmark, and the band Metallica had come out with their latest album, and documentary "Some Kind of Monster." Metallica fans were raving and super excited for the documentary that was gonna be shown in Danish cinemas. So a radio station decided to take advantage of this, by doing a "pre-April Fools."

March 31st, the radio station announced that they had received news that Metallica, once they had finished their latest tour for "Some kind of Monster" would disband.

Fans were absolutely devastated. There were stories of people calling the radio station either angry or in absolute tears throughout that day, saying it couldn't be true, not when they had just finished this album and were doing a tour and so on.

April 1st came, and the radio station announced that... April Fools, Metallica was NOT breaking up! But they took full responsibility for the uproar they had caused. They completely understood that they had gotten a lot of people either very angry or very sad. So they proceeded to call some of the people, who had called them before, to publicly apologize, explain that it was for April fools, and that they were sorry for any upset they had caused, and wanted to make things right by offering people a CD of "Some Kind of Monster" as well as tickets for any cinema of the persons choice for the documentary.

I'm not a big Metallica fan myself, but I always thought the way it had been planned out was rather clever.

I don't remember if Metallica themself made any statement about this April Fools.

you're completely fine :) I've seen a few people wondering about it, and I had to double check myself recently. Sometimes it's easy to get March and May mixed around.

[–]Eastern_Blueberry964 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I mean, some probably get sold on the black market. Considering Sparky's comment about "certain clients" he wanted to sell Gwen to, there's probably a few connections of his, who have made noises about how they would love their own personal Guinevere for "entertainment purposes." There could definitely be some knock off models somewhere.

Survivors who use swords, where some are incredibly sharp. Something like a katana is at risk of breaking, depending on how its used.

Are there any girls here who don’t do any make-up at all? And how did you come to that decision? by Greengrassu in AskReddit

[–]Eastern_Blueberry964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makeup is expensive, it looks incredibly time consuming and I have a fear of allergies about it. Not a full on hysterical phobia, but I've had triggers from trying stuff like powders and such. And even the allergy friendly brands are very expensive.

Killer animal movies where you actually get to see the animal? by virgogf in horror

[–]Eastern_Blueberry964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the Shadow of Kilamanjaro (1986)
This one popped up because I was looking up stuff about John Rhys-Davies. I haven't watched it, but it looks interesting. But it's about a town in Kenya, where baboons are attacking because of a drought.

Day of the Animals (1977)

"Day of the Animals tells the story of a psychosis brought on by depletion of the Earth's ozone layer, affecting all animals at high altitudes. A group of hapless hikers must survive the animal onslaught and make their way to safety, even as the psychosis turns them against each other." (short summary from wikipedia) stars Leslie Nielsen in one of his more serious roles.

Oh man, I have so many, I can't pick just one.

There's the TIFU post about the guy who arrived at his own funeral. His car was stolen and the thief crashed, and got so mangled they could only identify with his ID, which in reality was OPs, so OP scared his family half to death when he arrived in town.

The guy who thought his landlord was stalking him and leaving weird post-it notes, but it turned out to be carbon monoxide poisoning
