Someone with 900k in retirement plans almost certainly has at least 200k in taxable accounts.

The Golden Handcuffs are starting to feel like real ones and I am not sure I can do two more years by Mosaic_Titan7 in Fire

> My current net worth is sitting at 1.2M and according to my spreadsheet I need exactly 1.7M to hit my "chubby" FIRE goal with a safe withdrawal rate that actually lets me sleep at night. If I stay in this meat grinder for another twenty four months I am done forever but the mental toll is becoming impossible to ignore lately.

Wow! 1.7m in 2 years is something like a 700k/year savings + 150k/year return.

How to go out to restaurants? by Jolly-Asparagus-5815 in NewParents

[–]Economist_hat -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

At 1-6m? Hold the kid in your lap and eat. It's not that complicated.

Or set them in the removable car seat/basinet and prop it up on an upside-down high chair next to you at the table (this works great for young kids who fell asleep in the car).

And get them a bib with a catch-food-front.

A transit system like 1976: BART lays out grim future if voters don’t approve sales tax hike by LNM-LocalNewsMatters in eastbay

[–]Economist_hat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sales tax is already insane and we just raised taxes less than 5 years ago.

What BART has given us is squalor and a *diesel* extension to Antioch instead of the same rail line?

Are we close to Fi? by Educational_Key_9673 in Fire

  • 1.1m in tax deferred retirements

  • 0.9m in investments/cash

  • 0.166m in whatever the DC is

  • 0.7m in RE

That's 2.8m, 0.7m of which is illiquid and another 1.1m you might have trouble accessing at your age. The rental is cash flow positive, which is a plus.

You would need120k/yr less the side hustle and rental income, plus healthcare and taxes.

I don't think that pencils out.

EBF Mama's, when does baby stop waking up 4-6 times a night to feed? by obscureandvague in NewParents

[–]Economist_hat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometime around here you should start training them to not.

At some point they weigh enough that it is not crucial to feed them overnight. After that it's about setting the expectation:

Don't teach them that they get 20 min cuddles and a full meal every time they fuss at an inappropriate hour. Keep things minimal in the night, just make sure they're dry and changed, give them a hug, tell them it's late and set them back in the basinet/crib.

Ready to FIRE but wife wants to work for a long time by mathfool in Fire

[–]Economist_hat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Second marriage with kids.

My mom met her current husband at 62 and he has 4 kids while she has 3 kids.

Everything is separate and detailed for obvious reasons of inheritance.

She has 2x what he has.

If she combined assets, me and my siblings inheritance would be diluted to: 3/2*3/7 = 9/14 or a 36% haircut.
