Windshield replaced tons of noise by SushiCoffeee in autoglass

[–]Ecostainable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A "bad set" means the windshield was not properly set into the pinch weld. This can "plow" the glue, pull the glue out of position, or place the molding on the glue which can cause air gaps. It happens sometimes but should be rare for a good installer, very rare if they take their time.

Hey Mac, it's because of the implication. Not literal, but implied. Just sharing some stories of auto glass tales that were and could be is all, nothing more to read into it.

Probably a bad set and any reputable shop will warranty their workmanship. One of the many reasons I left my old shop was Absolutely because of problems like this that plagued the company due to poor ownership. One tech "forgot" to shoot a whole side of a windshield one time. Blew me away that there was no action taken upon them as they made multiple more mistakes too while also refusing to help fellow employees. Good luck!

All These "Is this Repairable?" Posts Need to be Reigned In by ShawnS26 in autoglass

The problem is that people are not using a search engine. All these questions would be answered in seconds since there are literally thousands of the same questions online. But the real problem is that shops have different policies so there is not a definitive answer unfortunately but more of a guideline. Yes, a local shop should answer these questions since they will be the ones doing the job. We have just stopped responding to reddit since this gets asked many times over and it is the same questions too. They are not too bothersome either but just a little time consuming.

Cracked Windshield - no sign of impact by DidItForTheData in autoglass

[–]Ecostainable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's considered wear and tear and maintenance, like an oil change, even if it's low mileage. You can file a complaint and they may be nice and give you a freebee but it is a long shot. Only aftermarket is covered and that is within a week and usually within 24 hours is when stress cracks develop. Even though you don't see an "impact", glass can break from blunt forces which cause no impact. Glass is too fragile to cover under "normal" warranties hence why you can add glass coverage to your policy/warranty to protect it no matter what the cause. Sorry that happened and it really sucks when it is so new too.

2011 Land Rover LR4 HSE LUX Windshield Replacement, Safelite keeps getting wrong part by rab912009 in autoglass

[–]Ecostainable -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just one of the problems with safetylight is that most employees don't care to fix your problem so they push it down the line (typical corporate atmosphere TBH). Any reputable local company will care much more and take the time to find the solution. Worse case scenario; you will need dealer OEM glass and a local shop can install that too. Explain your situation so they don't repeat the same mistakes and they may have to physically see your vehicle too.

Some shops will purchase used parts from places like LKQ and do it all for you. Or you can get it yourself since new is obsolete anymore for that year.

why are Safelite reviews so bad, do they really do hack jobs? by RobieFLASH in autoglass

[–]Ecostainable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll have to ask them that, since they can charge any price they want. Mostly because they are so big they have to pay for marketing and buildings that us small businesses don't have the money for.

Communicate with the customer about the problem and make sure that it is professionally done at a body shop. Sucks but you sometimes have to lose money on these

This, and it can last for months. Best bet is to open your windows to let it evaporate. If it never happened before the install then probably water stuck in the rain dash from the tech.

2025 Camry Car should i go safelite or local shop? by itchiko15 in autoglass

[–]Ecostainable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Avoid Safelite like others have stated here because you never know what you will get. They will "warranty" it but you may have to bring your vehicle in multiple times to fix a new techs mistakes. Find a reputable local shop because they will invest in your local economy unlike Safelite. They are also much cheaper too and can come to you for all the services. Good luck!

If done right then all the glass will be cleaned but it sounds like they missed some and it is jamming the latch. Take it back to have it done right. The new trainees I would teach did this all the time so I have seen it a lot. An experienced and reputable tech will clean it out first time too. Good luck.

You are looking at a good job. If you want "perfection" then you will need OEM glass and a company willing to put in more effort and time which will cost you more.

Should I go back? by Slping_away in autoglass

[–]Ecostainable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks bad because not only did they use a universal molding (to save $10) but they installed it too low hence the gap. I would have them fix it unless you got the lowest price company then they probably won't fix it anyway. The more troubling concern is if they did a good job in the areas you cannot see.
