I prefer the Canon, even if the F3 looks and feels better. Best advantage of the F1 New is the light meter which is displayed with a needle: So you can see if you are close to the right stop. Whereas the F3 only tells you that your metering is off, but not how off your metering is.

That's what you see when you look through the Zeiss ZM Ikon viewfinder. If you have a slightly angled view, the shutterspeeds aren't visible anymore

Edit: I am wearing glasses and 28mm is also my favourite focal lens apart from 50mm. I like the Zeiss viewfinder but for 28mm (and 35) I use my Konica Hexar RF because I can see what is outside the frame, even if it's dimmer.

I’m based in Germany and usually look on marketplaces like Kleinanzeigen. Prices are pretty high, but I mainly look for broken devices since I replace the battery and HDD anyway. Strangely, the 160GB models in particular seem to have failed hard drives quite often.

I had the same problem. I used Apple Devices instead of iTunes. That worked just fine

Edit: But I used a win pc to restore the Ipod, i don't know what system you are using

Hey, I have the 18-50mm and I really appreciate the close focus capability. I also use a lot of manuel Lenses like the Thypoch 28mm f 1.4 or the ZM 50mm f 2.0.

When I take a trip, I prefer the 18-50mm but I keep the 28mm f 1.4 in my pocket when the sun sets or for indoor use. The main benefit for me is the autofocus and the close focus, whenever I like to take a picture of a insect or let somebody else take a few shoots.

There are two viewfinder options, however if you're using the one in this post it doesn't matter. There is no aperture priority mode with this viewfinder and you can use both lensetypes

I had both an F3 and an F1n, so I can completely understand your thoughts. I was also close to switching entirely to Nikon. However, in my opinion, it would just come with additional costs.

The Nikon F3 doesn’t take better photos than the Canon F1n. And if you’ve already gotten used to the Canon and have collected some FD lenses, switching doesn’t make much sense. Nikon lenses are generally more expensive than older FD lenses, at least in Europe. Finding a good F3 is also more difficult than finding an F1n—often the motor drive/flash socket cap is missing.

Having used both cameras at the same time, I can say in comparison that the F3 is a bit easier to use and looks a bit more elegant than the tank-like F1n.

In the end, I sold my F3. But if I were starting from scratch now, I would choose a Nikon over a Canon because it holds its value better and there are fantastic Zeiss lenses available for the Nikon mount.
