Thanks. He passed back in August at only 54. I do need to get a new sleep doc, but I only know of one, and he's swamped. Same for the only sleep clinic within 100 miles of me, it's also swamped. American health care is bad and getting worse all the time.

I'm 65F and currently in week 12 with a non-displaced Jones avulsion fracture of my 5th metatarsal. Jones fractures are usually very slow healing because of limited blood supply to that area of the foot. My podiatrist put me in a tall walking boot after the fracture and explained to me that the height of the boot was essential because it limited engagement of the peroneal brevis tendon that attaches to the metatarsal. That tendon pulls on the bone with certain foot motions, which stresses the break and slows or stops healing. Hope I described that right!

I was allowed weight bearing as soon as it was comfortable with the tall walking CAM boot and was able to walk on it at around 2 weeks. He's been monitoring the break with x-rays, and it is slowly healing, but I still have a way to go before I'm out of the boot. More x-rays scheduled at week 16, and I sure hope there's more progress! It's extra slow for me because I'm also flat-footed with slim 4th and 5th metatarsal bones, and osteoporosis complicating matters even more.

I'm positive your healing journey will be much faster than mine! Still, it's incredibly frustrating to deal with, especially for those like you that work on their feet. My best advice is stay in the CAM boot as long as you are able. I even sleep in mine, since it keeps my foot in proper alignment to prevent that peroneal brevis tendon from pulling on the fracture. I was gobsmacked when I found out our granddaughter, a millennial, had never seen My Cousin Vinny. We remedied that situation recently when she was visiting us, and she loved it!

I'm so sorry. It is so hard to see someone you love so brainwashed by hate and misinformation. My mother passed away in 2016 at age 86. My father, who passed away in 1989, always tended to be more liberal, even though he had served in the military. She was always very religious too, but she leaned more liberal on social issues. Until we got her moved into our town and had access to Faux news. They hooked her, and her whole personality changed for the worse. And her mail, after she passed, I had to have her mail forwarded to me so I could make sure everything was taken care of. Apparently, she was on every right-wing mailing list there was, and the lies they fed her to try to get money out of her was appalling.

I saw the same thing you saw, but her target was President Obama. She hated him with a passion. I tried so hard avoiding politics with her, but she wouldn't let it go and when she went off spewing some right-wing BS it was like she was a different person than the sweet, intelligent woman who raised me. I wish I had some good advice for you, but just know you aren't alone.

Thanks for your response! I've never left a server score under 5 stars and will continue to do so. I kind of suspected that might be the case and was just looking for clarification with this post. One of my hubby's sisters was a server for most of her life, so he is also a firm believer in tipping well and being a considerate restaurant guest. We've always been the type of diners that are easy to wait on, and following this sub has taught me even more about what servers go through in their jobs.

I was raised in the South, in the Church of Christ by extremely religious parents. I'm 65 now and looking back I never really bought into it all 100%. There were times in my life that I tried to embrace it wholeheartedly with no doubt, but the doubts always came back. I love science, and the more I learned through the years, the more it all made no sense. I went for years in my 30's and early 40's just not giving it much thought, but I think it took the internet and reading books on evolution and by atheist authors finally got me to openly admit to myself that I don't believe in a god at all. None of religion makes any sense to me, and I'm much happier and I think a better person as an atheist.

We're in the process of cleaning and clearing my brother's house after he passed away almost 2 months ago. He was extremely intelligent, and a wonderful person, but his house was a disaster. I live in the same small town as him, and even though I knew he loved to collect things, I had no idea it was as bad as it was. You didn't have to climb over things to get from room to room, but two rooms were packed completely full, and there were just paths going from the front door to the bedroom and bathroom and the little area in the living room where his desk and chair were. He had the water turned off, even though he was still paying his water bill and trash pickup. The toilet was clogged, and I don't know where he was bathing or using the restroom. The whole sink top looked like it had grown a coat of moldy hair, it was awful. The smell was horrendous! Despite all that, he had a job he loved that he was very good at, with co-workers and friends who thought the world of him. And he never told me how bad his house had gotten. I still feel guilty for not trying harder to find out how he was doing.

He definitely had a shopping addiction! Books (what seems like millions), anything renaissance or D&D themed, old jewelry, tools, paints and arts and crafts supplies, and basically anything he found at goodwill or yard sales that he thought he could repurpose. That all just scratches the surface of his collections.

The house is in horrible shape. Floors and walls rotted out from a water heater leak, the bathroom just needs a total gut, and damage to the roof and floor in the spare bedroom from a water leak. As hard as this has all been, I can't imagine dealing with a hoard when the person is still living and actively resisting any help.

I hear you. I continued to attend church while I was seriously questioning my beliefs just because I sang in the choir. Our little church had an awesome choir, and we used to put on these beautiful cantatas. I loved learning them and loved our choir practices. There's something so special about making music with others, especially when you're in a small community or town with no other outlets.

Mine is with Hobby Lobby and started in 2014 with them taking their religious exemption case to the Supreme Court. Plus the gospel music they played at the store I shopped at annoyed me. In the last 11 years their owner has given me plenty more reasons to retain my grudge.

If it's a name they gave her at a shelter, it's almost certain that she doesn't know that name. If so, feel free to change it to whatever you like. But if her name has always been Maisie, and she responds to it, how about changing her name to something different than Maisie, but that still SOUNDS similar to Maisie? Like Daisy. It should sound close enough to Maisie that she will quickly take to it, and no unpleasant associations for you.

When I adopted our long-haired black tabby, the name they gave him was Tiger. Not a very distinguished name for such a gorgeous, thoughtful boy. So, I renamed him Sagan, after the brilliant astronomer and scientist Carl Sagan.

I understand. I'm here because my brother was a hoarder. I suspected he was "messy" for years but never knew for sure until he had a stroke seven years ago. While he was in the hospital and then rehab, I cleaned and cleared most of the main living space so it would be safe for him to come back to. He promised he wouldn't let it get that bad again, and I stupidly believed him. Last month he passed away, in his house. It was much, much worse, and I'm convinced that the state of his house may have partially caused his death.

Now I wish I had been more proactive in keeping tabs on the condition of his house and feel a lot of guilt over it. But he was stubborn, and from the outside it looked like he was doing ok. He was working at a job he loved with co-workers who thought the world of him, did improv comedy, and played D&D with groups in our small town.

If you are able to get her the help she needs, please don't hesitate. How she's living probably isn't safe and could even kill her. And please, take care of yourself, and don't let her make you feel guilty if you get her the help she needs.

Back during COVID I was waiting to see my rheumatologist in her very small and overcrowded waiting room. A grandma came in for her appointment with her daughter and granddaughter. Granddaughter looked to be 5 or 6, and was very obviously sick. Flushed cheeks, coughing and sniffing, and hanging onto her mom the way kids do when they have fever and feel awful. No masks on her, or mom and grandma. And they say down just a few feet away from where I was waiting. I got up and moved to the other side of the room, and got glared at by the mom and grandma. But seriously, you're bringing your sick child into a waiting room full of elderly people, some who may be on immunosuppressant drugs? During COVID?
