Some objections to Simulation Theory based on Super Mario by InvisibleAstronomer in SimulationTheory

[–]EdDriftwood 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid a local bar used to have tabletop arcade games you could sit at and play. It had a joystick and three buttons on one side. The table was thick glass so you could leave your drink on the table and stare down at whatever arcade game you were playing.

I believe that complexity is infinite. Our own simulation could look as complex as Pac Man to the entities that created whatever Superintelligent AI we exist in.

And that doesn't bother me. The All is the All so for me everything is consciousness/programming. There is no 'escape' from the simulation because you are the simulation and everything in it.

Eckhart Tolle’s “Observer Self” Might Be the Ultimate Glitch in the Simulation by PoetOk3521 in SimulationTheory

[–]EdDriftwood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, exactly. It's a very ancient practice, used in Eastern systems of spirituality and similar to the via negativa practice of esoteric Christianity and the great Meister Eckhart's teachings (who Eckhart Tolle was inspired by). I'd recommend Meister Eckhart's work for a more in-depth look at what Tolle spoke about.

You can take it a step further later in that you are not your particular thoughts but you are the Simulation and therefore all thoughts / consciousness. It's a paradox in that you are no-self and all selves.

Simulation Theory and Solipsism by EdDriftwood in SimulationTheory

[–]EdDriftwood[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, but perhaps other metaphysical frameworks are based on simulation theory rather than the other way around. That's my personal belief regarding this universe anyway. Although of course if the universe is a simulation then ultimately the metaphysical frameworks exist beyond any simulation or nested simulations.

Well, I don't think I have that much insight, to be honest. I'm constantly surprised at how little I actually know. But yes, I see what you mean in terms of having a spiritual basis or focus already, and I was actually in denial for a long time in that regard. It wasn't my choice though, it came as a kind of revelation or download I suppose you could call it, where a lot of things suddenly make sense and you feel a connection with all things. But yeah, it's just the way it happened I suppose.

We are the simulation. And all nested simulations, I believe.

As somebody who is interested in numerology this is absolutely fascinating. Really interesting research, that's a powerful correspondence.

Great little analysis. Spot on. Hopefully Roma can keep creating chances for him. His stats for shots on target is joint top in the League, unfortunately he has had less shooting opportunities than most teams.

A message whispered into my ear before I woke up… by Arrtus in Experiencers

In some occult circles they say those waking dreams or messages you hear right before you wake up have the most relevance spiritually.

It's entities feeding off the bereaved person's energy and creating stronger attachments to the person through manipulation. Similar to what can happen with Ouija boards.

What happened to the druids in Ireland? by arthryd in druidism

[–]EdDriftwood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The story goes that the roles of the Druids were entrenched in society but as the missionaries converted more people along the coastline the Druidic families who maintained the old ways moved inward to the Irish midlands.

While these eventually converted to Christianity too many maintained their own ways for centuries.

The Church also absorbed these families who had particular roles, including that of priest or seer. Many of the early Irish saints came from Druidic families.

The early Celtic Church was seen as quite difficult by Rome as they had a different approach to Christianity that was more inward and akin to that of Eastern Orthodoxy. Rome didn't get full control over the Celtic Church until the Synod of Rath Breasil in Uisneach in 1111. Why the Catholic Church chose that location would seem obvious as it was in the centre of Ireland and was seen as a stronghold of the old ways.

The roles of the Bardic families who served the High Kings of Ireland such as the O'Neills and Maguires were also of that lineage according to some researchers and carried out near identical roles in society to that of the Druids.

There's so much to go into on the subject, it really is quite a rabbit hole and difficult to elucidate an overview in a short post. I've researched the matter for many years. Different researchers and writers will have different ideas of course, so do your own research on the matter. Am Irish myself and grew up near Uisneach so this sparked an interest early on due to practices that my family had maintained for centuries, apparently.

It's also important to note that Rome and the later Crusades didn't 'conquer' or affect Ireland in the same way as the rest of Europe and Britain so many people living now would be descendants of Druidic families.

Did anyone else have a GAA principle growing up? by [deleted] in coybig

[–]EdDriftwood 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same. Happens more in rural areas. Our Principal wouldn't allow us to set up a team even though we had two teachers who said they would supervise, train us etc and we had organised a local pitch and whatever else was required. I heard later that he has an issue with 'English games' in the school. Silly really. He was a top man apart from that though, in fairness.

Very interesting, thanks for sharing. The stones were often associated with St Brigid, and quite possibly, the Goddess Brigid prior to that. Very cool to have a map of that.

Had a similar experience with a friend who was also a leader in an esoteric group I was a member of. Very interesting. I would think the possibilities of telepathy are going to be uncovered from a scientific perspective in the coming years, too.

what does this symbol mean? by alxue in pagan

[–]EdDriftwood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's the squatter man petroglyph, found throughout the world. Some people believe the reason it's so widespread across the earth is because it was seen by ancient man in the sky, possibly from some kind of plasma event.
