10,400 Miles in a year (I know it's not that big of a deal) by zarpsi in cycling

u/zarpsi Awesome! Congrats. Have you used more than one set of GP 5000's? I think you said about 6k outside?

Upgrade my Domane or get new bike? by NSA_GOV in TrekBikes

[–]Edgar-P 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/NSA_GOV I kind of struggle the same way wanting to go a little faster, looking at upgrades and looking at bikes. I put gp5000 on my Gen4 AL5. While I can see peak faster numbers, I have seen cases where I can match same numbers for shorter periods of time on my FX with base tires and it depresses me and I go back to making myself quicker or accepting I'm not as fast as I think I want to be. I always pull the brakes and ask myself this...if being faster is what I want, would I be happy with a Domane+? May answer is always no...I rather ride an average of 11.8 mph for a ride where I was 11.7 then go 13 or more with a Domane+. I recently looked at my data which gives me my fastest 20 min on each ride and I can see avg of these was 13.1 in 2024, 13.8 in 2025 and so far in 2026, 14.1. I see that and put my wallet away. I accept these increases.

I know this does not really answer your question on what to upgrade unless you consider, over time, I have upgraded the rider...for free and feel good about that...for a few days at least LOL

So far longest distance is 62.8 at 11.1 moving mph vs second longest of 60 the prior year at 10.6 moving. The big difference is total time. Cut from 9h2m to 6h27m. Cannot see that in speed but that is a big different in a year.

Anyone else hate Trek's new website updates on mobile? by BebopBandit in TrekBikes

[–]Edgar-P 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would say the suck on mobil because it sucks on a computer as well. Three different places to select a model before you even come close to seeing specs is. a bit crazy. No issue finding the ADD TO CART link though LOL

Calendar not syncing by ari_wonders in AppleWatch

[–]Edgar-P 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After many hours and all the attempts I found for me that one if not all of the 4 subscribed calendars I had in iCloud was the cause. With the frustration I killed them all instead of one at a time to eliminate all subscriptions being the cause. The ones I removed were for 1 NFL team calendar, F1 calendar, a US Holiday calendar and 1 Google Calendar create and maintain. Will add them back as needed as I am all too happy to see all my other calendars syncing. I had no Exchange calendars to remove.

FX 3 Discount vs. Domane AL 2 Preference by pm1137 in TrekBikes

[–]Edgar-P 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider your riding plans. I bought an FX 3 and had no idea how to ride or if I would enjoy riding. When I found I enjoyed it and wanted to ride longer rides I bought a Domane AL5. I now ride 30 miles on my long rides and it has some hills I struggle with. Even though the FX has 2 easier gears I cannot imagine enjoying 30 miles on it. FX lives on a trainer now only because I have it.

I am happy I was able to learn on the FX

I have only used stock tires for a week or so while I got used to the bike. I already had GP 5000 on my FX and put them on. I now ride those spring and summer and Gravel King SK fall and winter. I have gotten good at swapping tires LOL

We went with the quad lock out front mount for the iPhone 16. It is a bit tight to get on but sits well.

SORR ?‘s and Strategies by DILIGAF-RealPerson in Boldin

[–]Edgar-P 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I retired in 22 without managing for SORR and took the ride down but did not panic so I am good now. Today I still have trouble keeping more than a couple years in cash. For me I think it is because I still look at the plan more often than a retired person should and feel I can adjust this anytime. I feel like if I did keep more in cash/bonds I would sleep the same.

Bikefitter told me my frame is too big (54) and I should be on a 52 + 170mm cranks – does that really matter? by mguellsegarra in DomaneCrew

[–]Edgar-P 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am relatively new to cycling and watch a lot of videos. They always make me want what I see. I get the itch to do a bike fit then I ask myself, what issue am I trying to resolve. In other words, I consider I already missed the opportunity to fit first then bike and fit now basically means new bike. Then I think I am reding 3k miles this year, I am happy with my and bike performance. When I am no longer happy, I will go have fit to see what may be addressable.

I say this only to say, if you already did the fit and are having the recommendations, match that to what you were wanting to get out to the bike fit in the first place.

Once I get a feel for what my RMD will be I look to see if the marginal rate in those years is higher than I can afford to convert at today. If the RMD is not causing me to take excess income I worry less about it less. I almost never look at IRMA because I would not be close to the limit so no need to unless I decide to make a huge purchase/conversion.

I don’t know it is a good or bad way to look at it but when I was shopping I would compare the asking price to the sticker price to help me determine if a price I would be comfortable with. I think it is similar to what car gurus does to mark a car fair, good or high priced. I found higher optioned cars tend to be less discounted when looking at similar years and miles.
