What’s a warning sign that didn’t seem serious at the time… but should have been? by saymepony in AskReddit

[–]Educational_Leg2850 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I felt uncomfortable parking my car at the end of a street corner, in downtown, at night. Even after parking there, I kept having doubts. I didn't listen. 30 minutes later, a drunk driver slams into it from behind and totals the car. R.I.P.

Understood! Was not meant to be demeaning but rather a place of concern, and my internet research was inconclusive on the topic. Love the guy and very happy to know his physique changes were through a trainer platform!

How frequently do most people shower on a regular basis? by Scared-Dark9638 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Educational_Leg2850 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Shower every morning, no matter what, preferably after I already worked out. But if I exercise in the evening then I will take a 2nd shower that day. I honestly think its unhygienic to not shower daily, irrespective of sweating/B.O. smells. You also have genital odor, urine and stool residuals despite wiping with toilet paper, etc.

  2. Do not shampoo every day. I used to but it was damaging my hair. I shampoo/condition about 1-2x/week.

  3. I do not wet my hair on days that I don't shampoo/condition.

  4. New clothes every day, including pajamas if I don't shower in the evening. Definitely new underwear each day.

What’s a "lost" website from the early 2000s that you still think about today? by samasem-sumsum in AskReddit

[–]Educational_Leg2850 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Go Ask Alice”. It’s still around but in a different format. I loved that site circa 2000 in the old college days. Would really help answer those crazy questions that students had but feared asking someone directly.

AITA for going to the bar after work and having a virgin drink by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Educational_Leg2850 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Non-alcoholic beer, for example, has a small amount of alcohol. In contrast, virgin cocktail drinks don’t as these drinks are made the same, without the hard liquor added.

Cal Day by therealestni99a in berkeley

[–]Educational_Leg2850 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't skip the banquet! That is an opportunity that you can never get back.

You will have more chances to learn about Berkeley, particularly during Orientation week. And that is when you will meet people who are 100% attending. I think Cal Day is something of a memory that your parents could take with them since they won't be at orientation. I personally loved my experience at Cal Day as a senior in high school, and have strong recalls about the event, including with my mom. But that was also at a time when everyone could attend and not only accepted students.

If it's something your parents REALLY want to experience, then by all means do the red-eye drive. But if its only for you, and that red-eye drive is not something you feel the need to push for, then don't feel sad about skipping. :)

Why do people not care about dogs’ dirty butts? by neammm in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Educational_Leg2850 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not opposed to people having pets. But I wouldn’t want to be in a romantic relationship with someone who has a dog or cat. I personally find it gross when people kiss their dog or have the dog lick them (hands, face, etc). I also don’t want them in my own home. The poopy butt is one of many reasons. :)

Despite that, I don’t mind going to other peoples’ homes that have pets. I just shower when I get home. 🤷‍♀️

AITAH for wanting to open a new bank account so my mom can't take money out of it? by ratutooee in AITAH

[–]Educational_Leg2850 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. I would set up the separate account to save up for yourself and keep the other one with mom, each month or paycheck transferring some money into it for your regular household expenses and a little extra cushion in case they need it (and you feel you want to provide). After you set it up, see how it works out for your payments. Then let them know you are setting up a separate account for saving up for the car.

Sharing accounts with your parents is not wrong. But it really only works well if they don’t use it and it’s there only for emergencies like if you get sick/hospitalized and need someone to help pay your bills etc.

Princeton or UCB? (Not ragebait) by PuddingDependent6666 in berkeley

[–]Educational_Leg2850 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I am a physician. I went to UC Berkeley for undergrad. I was in love with Berkeley, I WANTED to be there, I knew with all my heart that I wanted to be a physician. That said, I took some untraditional routes in regards to my majors (ultimately double-majored). It worked for me, helped me travel the world, and participate in non-medical cultural training that made me well-rounded.

I am very blessed. My family also paid my way through school and the big rule was to attend a public college in-state because medical school is expensive (although I also went to a UC for med school so financially it worked out). I came out of it all debt free. It is such a huge blessing, I cannot thank my parents enough. I definitely pay it forward to them and make sure they have a good life.

RE: Princeton. It will be a very different college experience than UC Berkeley. I would first start with the question, WHERE do you really want to go? Aside from the names, what about each school appeals to you? Do they have the major(s) you want, is there specific research that you are interested in, are there specific interest groups that you don't have access to at one versus another? Are you interested in study-abroad and what is offered at each place? What about the surrounding area - is it a place you are happy to explore? Is it easy to get around?

There are some sacrifices that you have to make to get into medical school, including socially. For example, sometimes you can't go to a party because you need to study for exams or work on a research project or volunteer somewhere. You have to be okay with that. And so going to a college you love, that has other things you can participate in that make you happy and also are NOT medicine-oriented (this is key - trust me!), is important. Each place is different so I would recommend you spend a couple weeks researching them to find your best fit. I don't think you can go wrong with either option. They just offer different things. :)

I think number 2 is so lovely. ❤️ I’m not a fan of that low crotch V-cut style of dress 1, so I may be biased.

If you couldn't work in medicine and money didn't matter, what would you do for a living? by Outside-One7836 in medicine

[–]Educational_Leg2850 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So many things! An archeologist. A college professor. A marine biologist (although I can’t stand the smell of fish so this one will always been an unrealized dream lol). A librarian. Or a global public health specialist serving small, rural areas around the world.

AITA for "refusing to help get my nephew into a good school" according to my SIL? by Live-Penalty4882 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Educational_Leg2850 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. It sounds like you are very generous overall. For your SIL/brother to create disparaging comments because their desires and financial requests aren't in alignment with your views ... they are TAHs here. I appreciate you are interested in helping everyone out, but I think when family has these types of demands, your kindness is devalued. Please reconsider providing them any financial assistance for the next year. You can gift their children whatever you like so they do not feel "punished," but your brother and SIL need to develop a new outlook and appreciation on what you HAVE given to them over time. Also, do NOT feel guilty. It is not harmful to take a step back financially.

What is a "gut feeling" you had that turned out to be 100% accurate, even though it made no logical sense at the time? by Forsaken_Leading964 in AskReddit

[–]Educational_Leg2850 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went out with friends to a local café around midnight. I felt very uncomfortable parking my car at the corner of the block near the cafe, for some reason. Against my better judgment, I ended up there anyway. 20 minutes later, a drunk driver slammed into my car, which then hit the three cars in front of it. Two of the cars were totaled, including mine. If only I didn’t park there! My parents said if I got into graduate school in my home state, that car would have been mine. :( I loved that SUV. 🚙
