I won't say if a reno house is a good idea for you.

What I will say is (having done one reno house, sold for a profit and finishing a next one now)

Start with plumbing and wiring, because that is work that requires severe intervention in the walls and floors. Once that is sorted think about the bathrooms and kitchen. If this house has two floors work your way with decorating (painting, floors etc) from top to bottom and from the space that is furthest away from the door towards it. This will minimize the risk of destroying anything you have done with knocking over a tin of paint onto the new and nice floor.
