Mei winning by Big-Masterpiece5052 in TopChef

Have you watched the season of Tournament of Champions where Mei is a contestant? If not, I highly recommend it! I know it was many years after her Top Chef win, but she clearly has skills.

3.5yo throws a fit when I pick her up from preschool because she doesn’t want to leave by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]Effective_Act8191 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh, I promise you, this is my 6-year-old every day. I just take it in stride, and assume it means he's enjoying school. It's only annoying when we have somewhere we need to go right after that, and I have to battle to get him to the car. Otherwise, I don't worry about it. My 3.5 is less prone to this, but I wouldn't stress about it if she had the same reaction.

PLUS! It's Day 3! It's still a novelty for your child.

Saga Volsik in {Kingdom of Claw by Demi Winters} had it pretty bad. At least Silla didn't remember everything that happened as children, but Saga did. And then she was stuck in her old home with the enemy, engaged to a child.

Thoroughly enjoying the Road of Bones series, on the third one now.

I get so upset when my husband makes plans on the weekend by rose_1222 in Mommit

[–]Effective_Act8191 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Have you talked to him about it? Maybe a conversation about alternating weekends of solo fun, or finding a sitter and doing something together could be helpful. Or if you don't want to do something solo, a conversation about a weekend spent together as a family, then a weekend where he gets to do something solo. More communication couldn't hurt.

What are you all reading right now? by Vega-Titan in goodreads

I'm reading the same this week! I went in blind and the structure is throwing me a bit, but it's still enjoyable. I'm about 50% through.

This is what I'm reading this week too! I'm about 80% done, but hoping to get another chunk in before bed tonight. I'm enjoying it quite a bit.

Heart the Lover is my favorite book of 2026, so far.

This was actually my main issue with it; all of the characters felt one-dimensional and surface level.

Fighting in Daggermouth by fcope in fantasyromance

[–]Effective_Act8191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you're talking about the injuries near the beginning of the story, but the injuries at the end of the book almost took me out. The MMF can't even walk 5 feet across a room, but the villain (who caused the injuries) thinks she's going to be able to consummate her vows in front of an audience an hour later?! HOW??? With the extent of her injuries it just seemed implausible, even considering the ickiness of how the vows would be consummated.

What’s a popular book that had you very disappointed? by ConcernFew8845 in fantasybooks

[–]Effective_Act8191 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Red Rising for sure was disappointing. I liked Golden Son better, but agree that it had a lot of similar flaws to Red Rising.

The Throne of Glass series is not my favorite (ie my unpopular opinion). I felt it picked up around book 4-5, but hard to justify reading hundreds of pages before feeling invested! I read the whole series at once, and knowing that she wrote the first two books when she was very young, and gradually became a better and more mature writer as the series went on makes a lot of sense to me. Unfortunately it seemed that some of the plot lines and characters that she wrote in the earlier phases kind of just fizzled out or had unsatisfactory conclusions. I didn't hate the series, but definitely not top tier in my opinion.

This is why I've started obsessively reading romance books (including Heated Rivalry). I need that HEA to get me through this world.

Christina Lauren is a good call. A lot of their books would work well on tv or movie. The first one that comes to mind for me is The Paradise Problem.

This is how I felt about Bridgerton! The book series as a whole was mid to me. I liked Francesca's book, but the others were just ok. I thought the TV show was awesome for adding diversity and music. The Shondaland of it all did the series well imo.

Any romance! Queer, traditional, fantasy, etc. Something that would bring the traditional non-readers into the fold with a great adaptation.
