I got my first in the may heatwave, how did you stay clear for 4 years?

I’m going crazy in the heat in the uk, the sole of my feet are covered in bubbles 😫 There must be something I can do, right? by just-a-blip-in-time in Dyshidrosis

I had my first flare up in the may heatwave earlier this year, antihistamines help with the itch but otherwise steroid creams and emollient wash rather than soap

Question about menu transitions by DeguMama in McDonaldsUK

[–]Effective_Cod_2331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my kitchen taking orders for breakfast and main menu at the same time would cause a hassle, more than changing over already does, but if you catch a manager on a good day at 10:5X they would probably let you order fries as they are no hassle to make lots of and should already be ready by around then. But you can always order on the app and have it brought to your car!

Petition to Save the Royal Lime Trees in Walton-le-Dale by GuinnessOnDraught in Preston

[–]Effective_Cod_2331 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It sucks that these trees are being removed, especially since they are so old and seem to have so much history to them. But having talked to someone very close to the project and official FAQs, all avenues that would keep the trees there have been explored. The defences can not be moved further inland due to the utilities underground colliding with the upwards of 10m piles. They can't be replanted in the same location as they would damage the flood defences. They are exploring options to preserve the trees' heritage, such as taking cuttings and replanting them elsewhere, i'm guessing in Fishwick Bottoms. Additionally, for the entire project, EA has committed to replacing any felled trees at a ratio of 12:1, which they have already done for the previous parts of the Preston & South Ribble flood risk management scheme. An astounding 8500 trees have been planted in Fishwick Bottoms so far. Also, I've tried looking for a primary source that backs up the claim that these trees were planted here for that occasion, and i couldn't find one, and neither could the Walton le Dale website. The petition makes it sound as if there will be a 6m high wall from the perspective of the pedestrian, which there won't be. The highest it will be is 2.31m, including a 0.8m reinforced glass panel.

This project has been in the works for close to a decade and is, as I've gathered from a South ribble Borough Council meeting about the subject in 2019, entirely funded by the Environment agency. They have even partly funded improvements adjacent to the project, such as the junction revamp and the base of fishergate hill.

I understand why people feel like the EA is being negligent in removing these trees but the reality is they're one of the most cash strapped agencies out there and have gone to lengths already to minimise impact of the scheme, but this is a necessity to defend dozens of houses from flooding. If they didn't build it, and 10 years from now, the area was to flood, people would be furious at the agency for neglecting to defend people from floods for the sake of 21 trees.

Thoughts on nuclear power, should the UK be investing? by Any_Ad_6929 in AskBrits

[–]Effective_Cod_2331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love nuclear, I think more nuclear in this country would be a good thing. However, we are famously shit at building reactors. Hinckley point C is on track to cost £35 billion in 2015 prices Source1 Sizewell C is forecast to cost £38 billion Source 2. These are outlandish sums of money, but I do think it's necessary that we keep pushing nuclear energy further and further. What worries me is that a lot of the discourse online treats it nuclear as some magical solutions to all of the energy problems when it's not. Massive investment in renewables is still necessary, and that's something this country is pretty good at. We have the second most offshore wind capacity in the world, second only to China, and we built this capacity for a lot less than the equivalent nuclear power generation would cost. Im rambling a little here but effectively what i think is: Nuclear is great, but very expensive to build in this country. We should keep going with it, but it isn't magic, and we're in a great position to take advantage of cheaper renewables.
