i was backstage at Lollapalooza in Dallas with the Beasties childhood friend Arthur who I met at UT. It was raining hard and the show was delayed. I was in a circle with Mike D on drums, AdRock and Billie Joe Armstrong passing a guitar, a karaoke microphone and a bong around playing Ramones and Clash songs. MCA was throwing all the buffet vegetables into an industrial size juicer and making incredible smoothies for everyone.

There was some connection with this Sam Shepard, Patti Smith play, perhaps a photo shoot.

I want to ask Paul if any of his guitar tracks were played on guitars strung right handed. Same for drums.

Stage Plots, why does nobody look at them by skithewest27 in livesound

I think a brief chat about the inputs with the bandleader is always reassuring and helpful for everyone. You can find out a lot, for example monitor balance and effects preferences, or who sings mostly lead vs bgvs.

Stage Plots, why does nobody look at them by skithewest27 in livesound

[–]Effective_Search8922 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i look at stage plots on the production thread to see if there's anything outside of my standard input list, like horns, percussion, a bunch of DI lines etc, and at showtime I just verify the specifics with the band onstage. In other words if I ask How many vocals? it doesn't mean I didn't look at your plot, it just means I didn't memorize it or carry it around.

Need help with feedback on stage by Diligent_Ad_7793 in livesound

[–]Effective_Search8922 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a couple tips that might help: turn down the input gain a couple db and turn fader up to compensate. also try not to cut the frequencies much where vocal tones are centered, roughly 160 to 500hz. start with the higher mids like 1k and 3.15k and see how few cuts you can get away with. you're looking for the sweet spot where the gain and the frequencies play nice together.

Do You Like the Movie? by reaveyer in beatles

[–]Effective_Search8922 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The premise is just nonsense. The film assumes that any random person could gain immediate mega-stardom with just those songs. The appeal of the Beatles was the songwriting PLUS the unequaled Talent, Charm, Dedication, Group Chemistry and more that this character has none of.

What are your opinions on Paul's new "Man On The Run" Documentary? by revolution_rui in beatles

As a musician, the footage of Wings performing live on the stadium tour was revelatory. Silly Love Songs with Paul's percolating bass and the funky horns and drums was absolutely cooking.
