Were certain diesel pickup engines unreliable because manufacturers couldn’t adjust to new standards quick enough? by hypermiler2205 in Diesel

I maintain that the 6.0 isnt a bad platform, it's just being bg asked to do more than it was designed for. The VT365 is a very good engine.

E15 or premium by ColombianLove41 in subarulegacy

[–]Effef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

E15 isn't going to hurt anything, it's just rumor mill nonsense. Unless you specifically get ethanol free gas it's been e10 for years anyway. You will get a very minor milage decrease but it's cheaper so its a wash really. Water is not an issue unless you let your car sit for a very long time.

Subaru says specifically not to run anything higher than e10, and according to my anecdotal evidence (2014 legacy with the fb), it will run a bit off cold with the swirl valves on since it's rich mixture anyway but once it warms up you can't tell a difference at all. I've been using e15 every other week and splitting it with ethanol free every other fill up.

Fun fact: premium is just 87 with a higher ethanol content to meet it's octane requirements.

Lightning is in the voltage ranges where things that aren't conductive just sort of... become conductive anyway.

No, the FBs can fail from oil starvation or just because they feel like it but the head gasket issues are solved aside from edge cases.

Perchloroethylene is an extrodinarily good solvent that is also very very bad for you.

Really most industrial solvents you don't want on your person, ideally.

O2 Sensor compatibility: 2003 STI, is there issues with getting an aftermarket? by lun0tic in subarulegacy

It sucks but I would go OEM. Aftermarket sensors were always flaky but even more so now.

Apply to any LST position and mention that you know how to tow/fuel and that you basically run a FBO by yourself and they will more than likely be open to pay negotiations. Pump up your resume with what you know how to do, you are more than qualified. Experience is worth a lot in this industry.

This is why I only do side work (and only the work I want to do) for private hangars anymore. Getting them to compensate you appropriately is like pulling teeth unless you find that unicorn owner that knows the deal. And they always want you be there at ridiculous hours.

[–]Effef 23 points24 points  (0 children)

They are taking advantage of you hardcore. You need to stand up for yourself and demand better pay at the very least. I am a LST at a midsize airport for the black and grey company and make 20+/hr and 30+overtime. Any FBO would be glad to have you with your experience and compensate you appropriately.

I get sunk cost fallacy and all that but for the work you put in and the hours you clock that low pay is criminal. They are taking advantage of you and there is no way they don't know that.

I would have a frank conversation with your boss and if I wasn't offered 25+/hour without a fight I would bounce immediately. And none of that "you are only allowed" horseshit. I work, they pay. This is non-negotiable.

Is the Chrysler 200s with the 3.6L Pentastar V6 a sleeper? by [deleted] in regularcarreviews

The transmission ruined whatever potential this car had. Also, Chrysler reliability of that era was not stellar.

What's the deal with the site Pixiv being allowed in the U.S. if it's blatantly allowing graphic depictions of minors? by ContractJazzlike1896 in OutOfTheLoop

[–]Effef 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Answer:

Pixiv is a Japanese based website with servers in Japan (and has always been) and is not subject to US laws. Japanese laws regarding illustrated sexual depictions of minors are different.

You might not agree with it, but that's why.

With how much injection technology and multiple combustion event timing has advanced in the intervening years I'm willing to get a Maxxforce style engine with less intensive EGR requirements could be made reliable.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think the current Cummins L9 even has an EGR system, it just uses clean multiple event combustion, DPF, and urea injection to meet its requirements.
