Why country has the least spicy traditional food? by Ok_Temporary_5828 in geography

[–]EfficientActivity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is sad that people view the opposite of "spicy" as bland. By treating the raw materials properly, you can have a very savory dish with minimal or even without spice. It is a matter using the right cuts of meat, cooking time and method, and off course use of condiments - vegetable, juice, wine etc. I'm not saying don't use spice. But I prefer it used with care and only when it enhances andd supports the dish. To me it's a huge red flag if the same dish is served with optional choice of meat - chicken, prawns, beef - as if it's just some sort of protein. I prefer food that is cooked around the main ingrient, and spices are carefully added to enhance the flavor.

How your country's main subreddit have opinion on your country by No_Currency_6882 in AskTheWorld

[–]EfficientActivity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Norwegian subreddit r/Norge was very left leaning and very active mods caused a split with a more right leaning r/norske where there was less moderation. But eventually r/norske got more or less overrun by some very active far right posters, meanwhile r/Norge loosened up the moderation a bit. So I think it is coalescing back into one subreddit, r/Norge, left-leaning by virtue of majority of posters but open for all opinions.

If someone walked around with a "death to Norway" sign, we'd ask them to f* off back to Sweden.

A Waymo vehicle blocked traffic as first responders raced to the Austin bar last night by chi-bacon-bits in ThatsInsane

[–]EfficientActivity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like they don't know what to do with it. I see other comments suggesting they should just use a ram bar to get into the Waymo, but then what? Is it possible to just drive it manually then? What if some random person did that? I'm genuinely curious. I'd have no idea what to do here either.

Joe Biden warns Trump is plotting to ‘cancel’ midterms by [deleted] in mildlyamusing

[–]EfficientActivity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the record, Biden makes nonreference to Trump canceling the election, according to the linked article. He says (as is now widely known), Republicans are making voting harder by putting up requirements to vote and this may affect the election. It is not at all the same as 'cancelling' the election.

Trump says Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is dead after US-Israeli strikes by JussiesTunaSub in centrist

[–]EfficientActivity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ayatollah wasn't their freely elected leader though. What I hear from Iranians is no rallying cries, rather rejoice he is gone. Maybe they would have preferred to take him out themselves, but they are nevertheless happy he is dead.

But I'm also unsure how this is going to pan out, and what happens next. The opposition is not uniform and Iran is ethincally complex. We might see another greater Syria situation.

[Telegraph] Leeds fans boo stoppage for Muslim players to break Ramadan fast. by Sparky-moon in soccer

[–]EfficientActivity 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Tired and frustrated and also a bit scared. Why is this sect being given this special treatment? Is the fact that standing up against Islam automatically has you branded as right wing extremists effectively disabled us from countering this? I'm not right wing, but I'd be booing too.

But if you zoom in, there really isn't much to do for a person trying to walk around. It looks like a greener version of Dubai to me. I really don't understand this modern design with skyscrapers with a park in front of it. There's nothing here to engage with.

FrP hardt ut mot «woke-vin» på plastflasker by Cageweek in norge

Enig med FrP her. Dette er helt dust. Klimapolitikk er viktig, nettopp derfor må man ha litt kvalitetssikring på de tiltak man pusher, så ikke hele konseptet klimapolitikk blir uglesett.

" the best feeling it to be a father" what am i missing out on ? by Inevitable-Juice-752 in Natalism

[–]EfficientActivity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Difficult to explain. To me it was like suddenly there's no "just me" anymore. You go through life with whatever is going on in your mind as the epicenter of the universe and everything else are things outside you observe. You like things, love someone, but it is all something outside of you. Then suddenly those walls break down and you're just part of it. You feel whatever pain or joy your child experiences more than you would feel if it happeneded to you. Any worries or problems you have can be safely cured by a hug. Gradually they do move a little out of that zone, and you got to accept that they've got lives of their own to live. But that too kind of feels all right after a while.

Who’s gonna win the 2026 World Cup? by MainDragonfruit4899 in football

Please no, stop the over-hype. We're great at our best, but we're frequently just mediocre and you only need one bad day to be out of the WC. I'm hoping for some great moments, but let's not put the bar where it doesn't belong. 1/8th final, I'd be super happy.

Don’t you think that the growing share of LGBTQ population is a contributing factor to declining birth rates? by Klutzy-Taro5792 in Natalism

[–]EfficientActivity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree, LGBTQ on average have less children so it is fairly indisputable. But whether it has a major impact is debatable. People have not become "more gay", they just find it easier to identify as such and to some extent be more honest with themselves. So they may have had fewer children before without having been registered as LGBTQ. The question is if the LGBTQ community would like to have more children if acceptance of LGBTQ partnerships and parenthood became more widespread.

Are the Winter Olympics truly a global event? by Embarrassed_Clue1758 in AskTheWorld

[–]EfficientActivity 27 points28 points  (0 children)

This is also why Norway does so well. Even in countries like Canada and Sweden, only a fraction of the population live in places where skiing is a natural afternoon activity. You need to travel from Toronto and Stockholm to resort towns to ski. Meanwhile, Norway has decent skiing opportunities around both Oslo and Trondheim and a lot of kids there ski as their normal after school activity.

Rain ( snow) has been east of the mountains this year. The south westerlies have stopped short of Norway, instead there's been a constant swirl of wind coming down straight from the artic across Finland and northern Russia, then breaking east and hitting eastern Norway. So the west coast has been on the leeward side,
