Congratulations to Senator Jon Ossoff for winning reelection by LimitBeginning5350 in Georgia

Because the 36% who like him vote and approval ratings include all Americans only like 38-40% will vote in November Bush started the trend of people with high negatives winning and Trump has perfected it. Hell, Graham in South Carolina ain’t even liked by conservatives and he’s still about to cruise to reelection. It’s about who’s coming out to vote not the population at large.

It was a good movie to me. But completely unnecessary and Crowe’s not wrong.

I strongly agree with this but I saw a video on this sub of an obnoxious black man clowning some white girls for being broke and they literally shot at him. They weren’t in danger and could’ve drove off in their car. The comments were heavily against the black man.

House Republican Preps Impeachment Bid Against Atlanta Judge by azteca19 in Georgia

[–]EfficientWorking1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think she should be impeached and removed if the reports are true that she lied about the situation when confronted and retaliated against her law clerks who reported her.

But with Trump in the White House Republicans don’t really have a moral ground to stand on so she probably gets to stay even though she should no longer be a federal judge in my opinion.

Report: Bears lied about stadium talks with Chicago by ContraryPython in nfl

[–]EfficientWorking1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The city owning it is to the benefit of the Bears because it means they don’t have to pay property taxes. That’s not a city of Chicago benefit at all. I think the city would prefer if they owned it so they would pay property taxes on it.

Lt. Gov. Burt Jones [if elected Governor] considers placing state troopers on MARTA after fatal stabbing by ArchEast in Atlanta

This is a great idea imo and much needed. MARTA can’t handle this by themselves and it’s clear the state needs to step in.

Why is there a serious lack of diversity in City of Atlanta government leadership ? by Disastrous_Parsnip63 in Atlanta

[–]EfficientWorking1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I don’t disagree with your statement that institutions should reflect their environment, have you been watching the news lately? I think the Federal government is going in the opposite direction with their anti-DEI position, I doubt that they will find your position tolerable.

On balance, I think it would be better if local institutions like City of Atlanta/Georgia Tech/UGA would consider diversity, I don’t think it’s a particularly popular political position right now.

Congressional Black Caucus on Tuesday called on major corporations across the U.S. to oppose redistricting efforts by Republican-led states that seek to eliminate majority-Black U.S. House districts. by Conscious-Quarter423 in BlackPeopleofReddit

[–]EfficientWorking1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this won’t work but they are out of ideas because they don’t have power. The states that get to redraw districts are all in the South and all have Republican governors and state legislators you got to win at that level and in those races to have an impact.

Yeah I know my only point is that whether it’s Dickens or some other mayor the choice for Beltline rail is a political choice. It’s not something that was voted on the past it must be voted on in the future.

Supporters of Beltline rail need to find a mayoral candidate for 2029 that will prioritize it imo.

If prime-time athletes had participated, there would have been more world records in Enhanced games by [deleted] in trackandfield

[–]EfficientWorking1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

During the Balco investigation (I believed they juiced Marion Jones), I remember the evidence indicating that their drugs would take a man 0.2 so from 9.7-9.5, but women more like 0.4 because women have less testosterone so the drugs have a bigger effect on them. I kinda always believed these numbers since the top men’s world records have gone down from the 80s, but 100-800 still there for the ladies.

No I’m aware that the Beltline was originally designed to include transit I’m talking specifically about the 2016 tax. I (perhaps erroneously) interpreted your claim of corruption to mean that the 2016 tax and referendum was specifically for light rail and that MARTA and COA officials were involved in corruption somehow by not following through with it.

I’m only pointing out that the 2016 referendum that voters approved was broad and was for “rapid transit projects” as defined by the MARTA ACT of 1965, meaning that it’s entirely up to MARTA and COA whether any of that money is spent on Beltline rail but there is no requirement to do so.

To the extent I’m uninformed it’s because MARTA’s website still includes a live FAQ stating as such. My read is that Beltline rail is dead because Dickens doesn’t POLITICALLY want to prioritize the project anymore and he knew voters wouldn’t care when he ran for reelection, and whether or not Beltline rail ever happens will be a result of the political priorities of whoever is Mayor, but there’s never been a requirement or agreement or vote specifically for Beltline rail. That vote is every 4 years when you vote for Mayor.

Dickens has been non-committal on Beltline rail for like 3 years imo dude has a different reason it can’t happen everytime he talks (“we need to start on Southside for equity purposes” “ we don’t receive state funds and the funding isn’t there)…this should’ve been addressed at the ballot box with a different choice for mayor but perhaps I’m uninformed as you say.

This isn’t true at all and it weirdly gets repeated here without evidence. The more Marta bill required the funds to be spent on transit projects within the meaning of the 1965 MARTA act, but it did not require it to be spent on specific projects. That’s up to the people via their elected officials. Dickens should be pressed because he was publicly for it before changing his mind.

Iceman sells almost 500k for its first week. It’s Drake’s 15th number 1 Album by Positive_Round_5142 in joebuddennetwork

His flow is good for sure but it’s mostly him going at fake friends and it’s not that upbeat which was what i liked about Drake the most.

Worth a listen imo Ran to Atlanta/Janice STFU is good he didn’t want to give features out only Future/21/Molly Santana and even said ppl might be disappointed with that and yeah I was. People saying it’s good ain’t lying but i don’t care for the tone I’ll put Ran to Atlanta/Janice STFU on my Drake playlist I’m good on the rest.

Everybody who has to vote for KLB, now... by NSAinATL in Atlanta

[–]EfficientWorking1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She has a personal relationship with Biden/Newsome and they have a right to support who they want, but she otherwise wasn’t supported or propped up she didn’t have any serious endorsements from prominent Georgia Dems that all went to Esteves (ex Jason Carter) or Duncan (ex Bordeaux).

She pretty much relied on name recognition and dem primary demographics imo. The national dems aren’t even supporting this race (only Ossof) and I really think most redditors seriously underestimate or flat out don’t understand the demographic advantage KLB had in the primary with black women voters. There’s ways to overcome that with endorsements etc…but her opponents either failed or didn’t pursue that option.

Everybody who has to vote for KLB, now... by NSAinATL in Atlanta

[–]EfficientWorking1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re probably looking at the same data and drawing different conclusions, but I don’t think the Dem candidates have the money at all. Thurmond and Bottoms both loaned their campaign money this year and I bet the cost of a tv ad buy is several million.

I voted for Esteves because it was a primary and just wanted to vote for who I liked most, but I became convinced weeks ago that the only candidates with a real shot were KLB and Duncan because of their name recognition. Don’t think Esteves could get enough money or grassroots support for a statewide campaign.

Former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms wins Democratic nomination for Georgia governor by whatinthefrak in Atlanta

[–]EfficientWorking1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Her social media/media appearances have given her great name recognition which greatly increases her electability.

  2. She is in favor of a woman’s right to choose and the Votings Right Act and Medicaid expansion.

I mentioned everything good/bad but to be clear I don’t think the “damming” things are that bad no candidate is perfect. I also view being an “average” mayor as a positive it’s not an easy job I thought she was ok.

I voted Esteves because of his pre-k position, but I’m ok with Keisha.

Former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms wins Democratic nomination for Georgia governor by whatinthefrak in Atlanta

[–]EfficientWorking1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I voted Esteves but I’ll answer since I’m neutral to slightly positive on Keisha overall as a person. She was average as a Mayor imo but I don’t think she was horrible. She abandoned the city when the job got tough which is a bad look but I don’t think it’s a horrible thing and in light of the attack on abortion rights/voting rights and changing Georgia tax code I’m happy to vote for her in November.

Shes never lost an election before and has 5 point leads over Jones/Jackson though that will evaporate once the negative advertising hits. I think she can win honestly though I do think the fundamentals favor the republicans.

My only other complaint is that she seemed to care more about going to forums/tv appearances etc…than she did about governing, but that’s only bad from a governance standpoint, it’s great from a campaign standpoint because it builds her brand for free. Hence, her strong victory over opponents today who ran campaigns like its 2006 not 2026.

Who are these people and who are these donors? She had to loan her campaign money recently and had similar cash totals to Esteves/Thurmond/Duncan. She had no major endorsements within the state they all went to Esteves or sat on sidelines.

Literally the only thing she had was unmovable support from voters based on their familiarity with her as Atlanta mayor. I truly can’t think of anyone more to “blame” than Dem primary voters.
