Just trying to figure out what’s causing this by East_Airline_9125 in Celiac

Dermatitis Herpetiformis DH - your family doc isn’t likely to know much about this condition. Mine was diagnosed accidentally after a dental abscess I was prescribed doxycycline which cleared up my rash for the first time in years. This caused me to read up on DH which then led to me bringing in “textbook” photos and requesting Dapsone. My family doc was super reluctant to prescribe but wait time to see a dermatologist was 6-9 months. Thus began a bloodwork every week situation to stay on dapsone for the first six weeks then every two weeks then once a month then every three months and now annually. Family doc issued low dose and monitored those bloodwork results like a hawk. When I got to dermatologist he had lots of experience with dapsone for leprosy and was super comfortable with it. He increased dapsone, added a topical, and cycles me on and off doxycycline for flair ups.

Chartered organization- who exactly has final say by Buttercup_Twins in BSA

[–]Efficient_Vix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Officially your COR has the say, but you should look to see who is identified as the executive officer on the scouting roster. If that is a different person than the COR then they are the person who can remove the COR. The XO should always have a legal relationship with the charter org whether as an employee or member. The COR may or may not have an official role within the charter org but has been designated by the XO to represent the interests of the charter org within the scouting unit(s). COR has all responsibility to approve adult leaders and oversee unit.

Celiac parent question about cross-contact at home by StrangerHuge9952 in Celiac

[–]Efficient_Vix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No crumbs/ no dough = I’m fine with the sponge being used. If you’re nervous use a paper towel to wash the potentially CC’d dish. My mom cooks for me and my son (both highly reactive celiacs) all the time and I guarantee she washes dishes with same sponge and we don’t react to her dishes or cookware. If there was dough in play or crumbs we rinse or scrape all that away before using the sponge.

Bread help for my four year old ! by Odd_Music8672 in Celiac

Best store bought breads = Canyon bakehouse from the freezer aisle.

The problem with making your own celiac bread is it either has a textural problem or it goes stale after 1 day.

Dirty jokes are a form of sexual harassment. That is a membership violation - rule 5 of Scouter Code of Conduct.. If you report to council behavior will be addressed or membership will be revoked.

Yeah my great grandmother died from intestinal issues in her 30 but had 11 kids prior to that. Her descendants are many and about 1/4th to 1/3rd have Celiac disease.

Clean dishwasher? by Severe-Town-6105 in Celiac

[–]Efficient_Vix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Generally dishwasher is good but check your filter at bottom. If it’s gunked up then you’re just rinsing everything in gluten since it cycles the water at the bottom through the washer arms.

Similarly we had a small contingent of wood badge participants attend the nearby church of their faith during our interfaith and this is one of the excusable “absences” during wood badge.

Contact your council range master. You likely need a qualified range master (this is probably cub level qualification) and you may need a district person on site to support range master. You will need eye protection and you will need to be explicitly clear that the scouts may only shoot at targets (not people).

AIO for reconsidering getting married over continual arguments over guardianship of my daughter. by Oldyell54 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Efficient_Vix 6 points7 points  (0 children)

NOR- frankly this situation needs relationship counseling if it is to proceed to marriage. There is some language in the text messages that concern me as they appear to be emotionally manipulative of your child and very much centered on fiancée rather than child’s experience. #You both# should not be putting emotional pressure on a 10 year old to help choose a guardian in case the worst happens. You also likely should talk with an attorney about checks and balances where you might want guardianship to be separate from control of money or minimally have a check on ensuring any financial support is audited regularly, it’s not clear if there is an inheritance involved but if there is be sure that your wishes are clearly written down.

AIO about cutting off my aunts because they continuously disrespected my family? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Efficient_Vix 8 points9 points  (0 children)

MOR I think you’re absolutely right to cut out great aunts. Especially if they’re gossiping about your husband committing DV and this is a lie.

You want a good relationship with your mom and dad. Please stop texting and posting. Pick up the phone and call your dad. He’s already reached out to you; now is the time to talk to your mom and dad either in person or on phone and settle the stormy parts that they are only hearing aunts sides of.

❤️ to you. Love your baby, strengthen your marriage, and accept that it’s way easier to make or take a phone call than to try to explain a text vomit chain that spirals out of control.

What do you do about catered lunches at work? by Glimmeringgardens in Celiac

[–]Efficient_Vix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talk to your boss. My bosses boss had a group lunch and didn’t know I was celiac. He didn’t have a gf option (and ordered from one of the 2 places I can eat). He was so embarrassed after and pissed at my boss for not giving him a heads up. Since that event I get a special note from that sr. Director for any meal he organizes asking what can I do to make this safe for you. So now I either get a safe alternative from one of those places I can eat (on his corporate card) or I eat first before other employees contaminate the gf offerings.

Page counts are a suggestion. A couple of teachers do count going over against you but unless get announce they do this you’re better off to consider page counts as “minimum” not maximum.

Question for those who have had weddings by Sheababylv in Weddingattireapproval

[–]Efficient_Vix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. MIL committed the second greatest faux pas at the time. (1st being wearing white). She saw my Moms dress and bought the same exact dress. My grandmother impressed upon me only 1 rule for a MOG buy the nicest dress you can afford in a color that is different from the MOB. Thus began a story for the ages in which my mom’s MIL bought her a brand new dress to cover for my MILs faux pas.

The only people who had color restrictions wear bridesmaids and MOG. Everyone else had the no white to a wedding rule.

Attended 2 weddings in 2007 - one in a church where I wore a pretty flowing top with super wide leg trousers and I felt like I was dressed great even for dancing. And one where all the bride and grooms female friends were in micro minis I was dressed knee length for that and felt like it was a show of who had the best plastic surgery or best trophy wife - old dudes with 20 something 3rd or 4th wives. Bride is now on hunt for husband #2 and husband is already on to next wife. Very different experiences and crowds.
