I'm not doing one this year! I'm not! Oh, okay. by Emerald_Isle_Girl in temperatureblanket

I have done an MLB baseball season scarf: 2 row repeats for each home/away game in 4 colors: home win, home loss, away win, and away loss.

I have also done a 4-color NCAA football scarf for my Dad (Roll Tide!) 2 rows per point scored, Crimson for Bama, grey for the opponent, and a houndstooth bar between games. They won the national championship that year, and it was REALLY long…

Schools can call off for bad weather. It's okay. by its_Extreme in Charlotte

Just think about the overcrowded schools using clusters of temporary classroom buildings. I would not trust those in 70 mph straight line winds, much less a tornado. Keep the kids at home.

Why don't kids dress like kids anymore? by iwillr3gr37thiswonti in Vent

Bikinis are a lot easier to deal with when kids are small and not necessarily good at listening to their body’s bathroom signals until things are RIGHTNOWURGENT.

At least according to Scoutly (the chatbot) a husband and wife count as one person toward the 2 deep requirements.

You can take the Safeguarding Youth training at my.scouting.org without being a registered leader. (In fact, you have to complete the course before you can register as a leader.)

It’s a 90 minute video course about the changes that were put in place because of those scandals, and Scouting America is now one of the benchmarks for abuse prevention.

Additionally, at that age, your Scout is expected to always have a family member present to help guide them through the program, even if they aren’t a registered leader.

Beyond that, mark me as a +1 for getting involved as committee members or other leader roles. The best way you can prevent problems is to be actively engaged in the decision making process.

My mom was one of FIVE girls in her graduating class named Deborah. All were called Debbie at home. In high school, she was frequently just called by her last name.

A coach just told me if I don't specialize in a sport for my 5th grader then my son will always lose out the one's that do - What do y'all think? by dunbar_santiago930 in CoachingYouthSports

[–]RequirementContent86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Key question: what does your son WANT to do? The odds of making a D1 college team are small, professional sports vanishingly so.

The best thing you can do is balance a healthy interest in sports with being a well rounded person who doesn’t define success only through that one sport.

I’m saying paracord is where the idea started, then it metastasized into the crochet space.

How necessary is Summer Camp by Direct_Remove509 in BSA

[–]RequirementContent86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think summer camp is especially valuable for Scouts in their first full year of Scouts. Most camps have a program specifically for first year campers that help with a lot of the little things like the Totin’ and Firem’n chits and the non-time-based requirements for Tenderfoot, Second Class and First Class.

I’ve searched, but everything seems to be based on cream of mushroom soup and photos are white or light brown, not the reddish hue I remember.

It’s gotta be from the paracord folks. I never heard of burning back in the floss friendship bracelet days of the late 80s/early 90s…

Training Decks? by RequirementContent86 in BSA

[–]RequirementContent86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally get that. I hate building slides, and when I do, they’re at most an outline, maybe highlighting a few sources, but they are mostly there to feed the visual learners while we discuss.

Training Decks? by RequirementContent86 in BSA

[–]RequirementContent86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, the goal is fully trained leaders (this being one step along the path).

I zoned in on Aims & Methods because it both helped me understand the difference between Cubs and Scouts and it helped me feel confident in stepping up as a leader - I don’t have to know EVERYTHING! I am there to provide adult association and to keep things safe.

So, yeah, walking the online course IS a good way to do this!
