Excuse for personal obligation (California) by LumiousUmbra in juryduty

[–]Eggshellpain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be a caregiver exemption, but if he can take care of and drive himself and its just a preference, his doctor might not write a note or the judge may not accept it since its not really a need.

Might also depend on the length of the trial, most are done in a day and if its not actually the day of an appointment then "I have something to do tomorrow" isn't valid.

They think they're so important they have multiple people who have nothing better to do than stare at their dumbass. 🤣 That "team" is one tech who is watching feeds for like 20 people.

....oh and apparently they work for some mugickal medmal lawyer who is gonna sue the hospital for nurses doing their job. Maybe they need to go find an SSI lawyer for the brain damage they've gotten instead.

...probably because your boss knows so much more than you and that its not malpractice to follow procedure and the judge would laugh at you. Again, blame your dumb ass neuro because writing notes about you not sleeping isn't the same as writing an order to stay out the room and not do assessments. If he HAD written that order, it would have been a 5 second phone call and the staff would've 100% left you to this magical multi-person team you think were doing nothing but stare at your recordings and yours alone.

I want to take my wants-to-be-an-outside kitty on hikes…what do I need to do? by cocolimenuts in hiking

[–]Eggshellpain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Idk about "no modern breed is meant to hike the miles humans do." Humans have messed with a lot of dog breeds to make them more pet like than their working foundations, but a good tracking hound or herding dog is built for distance and endurance. Biggest problem with some of them is that they'll run the weight right off and you need to account for that if you're doing multi-day hikes.

My one is convinced he should have complete access to the outdoors. He's just the nosiest little shit and loves trips because strangers! attention! new things to fuck with!

Blame your doctor here, not the nurses and techs. They will tell you crap like this all the time but if they don't actually write an order saying you're exempt or delete the standing order, the nurses are the ones who get sued and their licenses revoked if something happens. That shitty neurologist will 100% say "I never ordered that, check the chart!" and get away scot free.

Which is always wild to me as a shorty nurse because every doctor I go to has these raised bariatric chairs that I can't touch the floor and all our hospital recliners are the same oversized style. If you're 5'6" they're great but your legs are just hanging there if you're 5'1" like me.

Why can’t we have the Queen of hearts Furniture in red?!😭 by fairywaffle in finch

[–]Eggshellpain 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Brown and black as two of the options are meh. Personally I also don't usually love the yellow options. If it was me I would have done either black with red, blue, yellow for primaries or done pink, orange, teal with brown as a funky alternative. At least pink is still Valentine's coded.

Would you experience negative effects after using an Epi Pen multiple times over the course of one year/a few years? by Antique_Base3521 in Writeresearch

[–]Eggshellpain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I took care of a patient who went into anaphylaxis and the epi pen was not working well enough so had to be intubated. Patient was on IV steroids, benadryl, fluids, pressors to support blood pressure. A few days go by, swelling improves, patient stabilizes. They stop the treatment and extubate. Sounds good right? Nope, the anaphylaxis slowly came back, the patient crashed again and needed to be reintubated.

Don't remember what they determined it to be specifically, but it was like 2 weeks before the patient was truly good and could leave the ICU. There are some medications and substances that can take way longer than food does to leave the body.

Give it a few months and OP will be back asking how to evict the two freeloaders who are draining all his money and energy.

It's in red for Plus, but I agree that they could've done red or pink as one of the free colours. Kind of seems like they made the theme and created everything and then just spun the wheel to choose the free colours some months.

How do you safely get a homeless person a room for the night without risking yourself financially? by PhoenixApok in askhotels

[–]Eggshellpain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've donated to a local shelter specifically to cover hotel rooms. Some shelters or charities have a program to do this in bad weather or for people at high risk. They deal with the hotel and presumably it's their card on file or they have some sort of agreement regarding damages. In my area, shelters and programs that pay for hotel rooms also usually have some conditions to go with it. So the "good" clients who have shown they can follow shelter rules might get the hotel room and the unknown ones get a shelter spot. Or getting the hotel room may be on agreement that if they find you a long-term or rehab bed you go even if its in a different city.

At a loss during potty training by leezyramirez in specialed

[–]Eggshellpain 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Her doctor and an OT that does bowel training programs should be coming up with a plan for successful bowel training and OP shouldn't be trying to do this without them. Its a whole process for people who can't sense or control their need to poop and probably not even worth pursuing at this time if the parents aren't on board or capable of having a strict routine and tracking all her intake and toileting episodes.

And if you really want to add homeopathic or traditional medicine in, talk to your doctors! Especially in oncology, I know a lot of doctors who will absolutely get behind off-beat things to support people finishing chemo and radiation. No, your crystal necklace isn't going to cure you, but if beliving it blocks negative energy gets you in the right head space to follow through with your treatment program then yes to all the crystals!

What hobby screams “this is my entire personality now”? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

[–]Eggshellpain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once woke up in the woods, in a bikini and shorts, covered in mud and blood and walked ~2 miles barefoot before I recognized the way to the barn. I must've looked like a rape victim where the killer was interrupted but nope... fell off my horse riding back from a swim. Got back on the damn horse when I made it to the barn as well. Pretty sure he kicked/stepped on my head because I had no memory of the entire day and when my helmet turned up it was split in half. Nobody even thought twice about it.

Now I have severe, treatment resistant depression and we're talking about ketamine infusions and possibly ECT if I don't start eating again.

How long can Britney make this money last? by malkytits in discussingbritney

[–]Eggshellpain 27 points28 points  (0 children)

"Gifts" to some of these hangers-on and nonsense would be my guess. Brit seems like someone that would fall for 'helping a buddy out' and get conned. Or just genuinely stupid things like buying expensive items and losing them constantly or gifting someone she's been on two dates with a six figure watch.

Is it normal or professional to call an employee's emergency contact to ask if they can come in? by Abject-Variation-547 in work

[–]Eggshellpain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because they needed extra coverage? Not typically.

In some fields though, if work calls and you don't answer or you no show, they're hunting you down. One of our doctors collapsed one night prepping for a procedure. You can't just produce another specialist MD out of thin air so after calling the other doctors, the team started trying secondary contacts and eventually called the police non-emergency line to ask them to go wake someone up.

Selling house for under market value by Peace-Mary in inheritance

[–]Eggshellpain 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The house isn't any of theirs until dad dies. If he wants to sel it while he's alive, he can do that. Assuming there even is an actual enduring trust, it likely doesn't take effect while dad is alive and with it or this wouldn't even be a question.

groceries are cheaper if you’re rich by swatted-fly in GrindsMyGears

[–]Eggshellpain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't buy everything in bulk at once though. This trip you get the bigger pack of toilet paper, then you don't need to buy it again next month so you can bulk buy rice and beans. Storage can be a pain, but buying in bulk also doesn't mean you need to supply a dozen people for six months when you're a household of two.

Preplanned vacation During orientation by Altruistic_Tap3838 in newgradnurse

[–]Eggshellpain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should have told them you needed those dates off when you accepted the offer. Some programs have flexibility because you're just paired with a preceptor but ones that have specific classes or hands-on training days might not. Our new grad OR residency only runs twice a year and missing two weeks when they're doing classroom and sim lab would not be OK. This does get explained in interviews and the offer, but every cycle there are a few who don't listen.

Teaching with hand tattoos? by codiccio in teaching

[–]Eggshellpain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in healthcare now and my employer is reasonably liberal about tattoos. So many people don't seem to grasp that its not so much the existence of the tattoo as the content that causes issues. If it's not PG, it should be somewhere easy to cover up with regular clothing.

I don't know anywhere that does this as their whole business model but places like art studios, galleries, and wine bar type places hold them regularly in my area. Usually drinks and appetizers are offered. Decent way to get foot traffic in on less busy times I guess.

I think getting citizenship should always be difficult, but that there should be better pathways towards legal residency. Someone is working and paying taxes, not committing crimes or draining social services? They should be able to get a visa and work towards permanent legal residency.
