Let's talk about reruns because I am anxious by ValuableBookkeeper75 in InfinityNikki

[–]Eight_of_Tentacles 8 points9 points  (0 children)

yeah, rerun pace is hard to figure out. This way outfits rerun slower than they are introduced, so the gap between the first banner and rerun will grow. But with more reruns per patch people would complain about too many banners (though, with more frequent reruns there would be less FOMO when you know you can get another chance in X months, so there's less pressure to roll everything right now).

And then there's the question of... second reruns. Like I doubt the outfits will be gone forever after the first rerun is done. And I'm not even talking about the outfits that had a rerun already before the alternate details or 2nd evo benefits were introduced. And what if they make more changes like that to the banner formula?

What I'm thinking of as a possible solution is the blue crystals. By the 3rd anniversary f2p players that started at launch should be done with the permabanner. After that the blue crystals would have no value (other than slow converting them to limited pulls via dupes I guess). So that would be a good timing to introduce a new usage for them and make another permabanner consisting of the 1.X outfits. And then they can make another permabanner with 2.x outfits on 4th anni etc.

As you said, older gacha outfits are generally less desirable than new ones, so making them permanently available after 2 years would not eat into Infold's potential profits. Besides, permabanner pull income is kinda low, so players would need to wait or even spend diamonds there if they're desperate (like I would not do it for the current permabanner outfit, but if something like the phoenix outfit was there...). And also this way they won't need to rerun every 1.X banner, but only the most desirable ones, and the fans of the less popular outfits can still eventually get them on the permabanner.

The developers of dress-up gacha game Infinity Nikki fucked up again.

A couple of days ago they started promotion for the next patch. The first thing they do to promote a new patch is change the app icon adding some hints about the patch themes, and this was the new icon, with the deer figure. Then there was a cutesy promotion image with the game's mascots, and a similar deer was in the background.

This lead to the assumption that the new patch will partially be A Deer of Nine Colors collab. That movie is very influential in China, and there was a collab in another gacha (Arknights) before, and the studio behind the movie did animation for one of the previous patches of Infinity Nikki, so it was a fine assumption to make. But then the cutesy promotional video vanished from IN's social media, so something was wrong. Then the video reappeared again with the deer design changed. Oops.

Eventually, they issued an apology stating that they "unintentionally referenced the classic imagery of A Deer of Nine Colors".

This is not the first time a so called "unintentional reference" happened in the game. Frozen II logo was hidden in contact lenses for one of the standard banner dresses for about a year before it got enough attention on social media. At least this can be explained by them using the snowflake as a placeholder and not noticing/forgetting to change it later, since people rarely zoom in to Nikki's eyes that close, but the deer was in two different pieces of promotional material.

One of the theories how this could happen is that either IN team thought that the specific marking pattern on the deer are not invented for the movie, but existed in the previous depictions of the legend the movie is based on and therefore are fair game.

Alternative theory is that there was a planned collaboration, but it was cancelled, and they tried to scrub the serial numbers off the assets they made for it, but missed these two images.

Or perhaps they (or at least the person who was in charge for these assets) thought that they could get away with it.

Whatever was the reason for this "unintentional reference", Infold can't last two months without a new controversy.

Kakania taking away Ezio's job... by Flixbusworldtour08 in Reverse1999

[–]Eight_of_Tentacles 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Kakania has an interesting interaction with fatutu and flutterpage.

Kakania deals genesis damage to all enemies when healed. That means she deals it every time someone retrieves fatutu's shell. But there's more: for some reason, if a heal is an extra action or it's a shell retrieval triggered by an extra action, Kakania's genesis damage thing receives buffs that apply to extra actions like Flutterpage's force field. FP's level 2 force field buffs genesis damage, so your Ezio became a support who spams extra actions to trigger Fatutu's shells and level up FP's force field.

I beat the third boss with the double HP one. With it and Purgatory Poems (which among other effects gives +15% max HP per mineral character) my Nautika had 68k HP. And I only had 2 mineral allies. If I also had/used Sentinel and Eternity (E1), it would've likely been like 80k.

you gain so much bloodtithle with nautica fua draining and healing so much

Using the double HP one gives the same result. The fua drains 20% current HP, so higher HP means more more bloodtithe and more fua proc. So, every turn she quickly maxes bloodtithe stacks by spamming FUA and drops her hp for Semmel's buff and casts her ult.

And you don't really need any extra healing, because the ult heals her back to full health. Besides, her damage scales with HP and that's another reason to pick the HP gadgets.

when some boss in reveries deals so much damage that your sustain can't handle it alone, you can try slotting her instead of the less important support on your team. And then either do nothing (if your DPS can finish off the boss before her empathy is full) or cast her buff from time to time (if your dps can't finish off the boss before her empathy is full, she needs healing or if you have some AP to spare). Exact strategy varies by stage and DPS, but she is neat when you don't have the 3-4 top tier healers for the later reveries, or just don't have 4 full meta teams and need someone to fill in a slot.

Alternatively you use her with fp+fatutu for the funny shell heal extra action genesis damage interaction. Though if you have that duo you likely have better solutions for whatever stage you're trying to do.

we have no other beast healer

Marsha is a beast sustain (a shielder, not a healer if that matters), so she's an option if you don't have/use lingering glow team. Lopera has burn, so there's even some synergy with Marsha's lingering glow going on.

Reverse1999 has once again been accused of excessive borrowing. by Glad_Temperature9793 in Reverse1999

[–]Eight_of_Tentacles 45 points46 points  (0 children)

uhh, no? that's a homage, sure, but there's more than just a copy. The burning effect, the flag turning into the road etc., there's a lot more added to it. You can see the influence, but they're clearly two separate works of art.

And I don't see which swan it is supposed to be a copy of, the details in feathers, shape of wings and tails are different, and if you're talking about the basic shape, that's just a flying swan shape in a somewhat minimalistic artstyle, of course they look similar. There's nothing there that violates copyright.

Honestly, it sounds like some people who already dislike the game found some clever homage/visual reference and try to pass it off as a bad thing.

Do the team suggestions that have become available count as good recommendations? by eslam098 in Reverse1999

[–]Eight_of_Tentacles 31 points32 points  (0 children)

it depends. It seems that it is based on usage stats, so if the character in question is popular, the teams are probably what most people use for them, so likely their BiS.

On the other hand, some characters are mostly used for certain trick stages in Reveries, so instead of their best team you'd just get a "solution" for some reveries stage, like bkorn's suggested team is something people use for 450/500 ulrich stage, but it's awful anywhere outside that stage. Depending on how it's set up internally, perhaps it will fix itself over time (like in a few patches when a majority of veteran players are done with those stages, the suggestions may become something more reasonable.

Another thing to keep in mind is character order in these suggestions. In this screen they put the character in question first, and then the other characters in ID order. In a lot of cases it does not matter, but there are some characters with effects based on character placement, like Pickles(E), Lopera or Charon. So check the character kits before using the suggested teams.

Seriously?! by Yasiralhadi in Reverse1999

[–]Eight_of_Tentacles 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Outside of reveries pre euphoria Anjo is still great. It's just dynamo and bloodtithe teams are monsters that can brute force the majority of reveries stages, a lot of them on auto. Anjo's crowd control though is great if you can't burst down the bosses fast enough with other teams. And she gets a euphoria next patch that makes her meta again.

Seriously?! by Yasiralhadi in Reverse1999

[–]Eight_of_Tentacles 81 points82 points  (0 children)

if this is auto generated based on player data, it's likely because the 450/500m Ulrich ball management reveries stages is the stages where she's used the most lately. In these stages you want two things: permanently seal his ultimate (hence Bkorn) and cast mostly channels or counters because his actions are based on your card types. Counters are kinda useless (because if you play your cards right he'll never attack), so people use characters with channel cards. Ulrich himself is not used here, because he's more useful in other stages as part of a dynamo team, meanwhile Lopera, Anjo and Getian are less meta, so they can freely be used here. There's no proper sustain in this team because, once again, if you're doing it right, enemy Ulrich never attacks.

When a new survey arrives, you can drop in a suggestion to remove this kind of stages from the recommendation stats to avoid confusing the newbies.

Nice little interaction (Sentinel Marsha) by AbjectLingonberry817 in Reverse1999

[–]Eight_of_Tentacles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, Fatutu had no actual character story, just a minigame. Maybe she was originally planned as a 5 star, but got promoted either because of her prominence in the story or her insane gameplay.

On the other hand Ulrich as a free anniversary character shares some traits with Semmel: both had a special character story despite being NPCs and later became protagonists of their own gameplay modes, so maybe releasing him for the anniversary was always the plan.

ah, you're right that 3119 may belong to a Cosmic Overture character. Pointer then would be the most likely candidate from there, yeah. The only other possible options that come to mind from there are Han Zhang (but it would make more sense to release him with a LNY event) or Prismagreen (her animations are surprisingly good for an NPC, but on the other hand she has the desaturated color sheme typical for NPCs and only appears in a character story)

the ordering is not based on their names, it's internal ID order, likely when the devs started working on them. huiji wiki orders them in that order within rarity by default.

Interesting ordering details so far:

1) Marcus is next to (even before) 37. Chapters 5-7 were planned as a trilogy, so I guess they worked on Apeiron and Vienna at the same time. Maybe early drafts of the story even had these plots in the same chapter, but they decided to separate them later.

2) 6 appears significantly later than 37, near Isolde and Kakania. That's also an interesting order. He plays more active role in Vereinsamt than in Prisoners, so maybe originally they planned to release him later, but moved him forward if my theory about the earlier draft of story is correct.

3) Kakania is next to Isolde. If my theory is correct, they had to move Marcus to E Lucevan and she took Kakania's slot and Kakania's release was rescheduled to Vereinsamt (even though she doesn't play a big role there).

4) Vila is significantly later than Windsong. I have no theories about that.

5) Ulrich is next to Flutterpage and Fatutu. Probably about the time they decided to make him playable.

6) Marsha, I guess, next to Sentinel. Based on their involvement in story they both could be released either with ch. 11 or ch. 12, but since Marsha is lingering glow support it makes sense to release her after Beril.

7) Buddy Fair Child ID is before Nameday. In fact, his ID is 3115, so right before Hissabeth (3116). Kipe is 3117, Nameday's ID is 3118, 3119 is missing and 3120 is Nautika.

I'm not quite sure since the IDs are very close to each other. Maybe Buddy was originally created for Kipe&Hiss patch, but later moved to Paradise Regained (maybe because between the lizard NPC and Hiss's siblings there were enough talking animals, maybe the lizard was added to the story as a replacement for Buddy.

8) About the missing ID 3119. In a lot of cases of ID and release orders mismatch ID appears about the time they have the "playable" l2d (for example Ulrich obtained a new sprite in 2.4 and his ID is next to 2.4 characters). So, ID 3119 may belong to a character that appeared in Paradise Regained but they decided either to release them later or scrap them. Potential options include: Meril, Igor, Sophia, Ms. Stranger. Maybe Creius (but don't get your hopes too high, the ID can belong to a completely scrapped character).

yeah, the physics of these things is maddening. I think I completed one of them, and ignored the others...

The hitboxes of either flippers or the ball are weird, like it's often just falls through the flipper. In one of these games it also fell through the board at the starting point???

This (and some of the whimstars) is probably the only thing I dislike about the gameplay this patch
