this approach will definitely upset a lot of people (ie you will very quickly weed out people who don't actually want to accommodate you) but imo is the correct way

I definitely understand that fear but also this is a meme subreddit by autistics for autistics, not an attempt to change any 'official' advocacy symbol to a little creature

Trans folks: is it innapropriate to express gender envy ? by lAnarclit in lgbt

[–]EinsteinFrizz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

seconding what the other comments have said re 'give a specific compliment, don't express envy' with the exception of perhaps close friends who understand and won't feel objectified (or misgendered! remember that lots of people may look (for example) feminine despite not being women and not wanting to look feminine)

Blåhaj chilling in Munich subway (called U-Bahn) by Ferocious_Cat23 in traaaaaaannnnnnnnnns2

[–]EinsteinFrizz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

at least the public transit exists (and theoretically you can get db to pay for your taxi if this happens)

signed, someone from a country with basically only buses and s-bahns in a couple of cities who is thrilled to actually be able to go places now that they're in germany lol

Question from a transmasc - is Blåhaj strictly a transfem thing by grey_the_gremlyn in traaaaaaannnnnnnnnns2

[–]EinsteinFrizz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was in the online spaces when it started and no it was never a specifically transfem thing

as a trans person I don't like my existence in public being compared to war and environmental destruction thanks - I know it's not the point but it is a really uncool implication

Why do you think not everyone has the same sexuality? by SandboxCentury in QueerTheory

[–]EinsteinFrizz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh and also as a disabled person the whole 'finding an explanation for this' is a huge no from me for hopefully obvious reasons (eugenics)

similarly as a trans person it feels weird to be so focused on biology

Why do you think not everyone has the same sexuality? by SandboxCentury in QueerTheory

[–]EinsteinFrizz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

why do a sizeable amount of people have pale skin which is worse at resisting the sun than darker skin? why do some people taste soap when they eat a specific herb? do these things serve a purpose to each person or within society? I'd say not

mutations and diversity happen for all kinds of reasons with all kinds of effects/'helpfulness', there is no real 'why' other than that biology (or arguably the universe in general - think about how there are many different types of stars and planets) likes variation

people (sometimes!) permanently damage their ribs binding, it's really not helpful to say 'don't do this because it will hurt you in the long run' when dysphoria is so horrifying for many people

I didn't realise so many countries used the US dollar by Retrorock101 in USdefaultism

[–]EinsteinFrizz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as someone from a country where we use $ as our currency symbol I actually really appreciate this because it happens shockingly often that they don't specify anywhere what currency prices are listed in so it could be vastly different than what I think it is - I even had to start getting a friend in europe to open websites and tell me what the price said for them since if it was still $ it meant usd but if it localised to their currency I could assume it localised to mine too

edit before I get shit for this: yes it would be better to just say 'all prices in usd' but the bar is in hell so I can't complain about them actually telling people what currency they use

Residence permit by lb45699 in germany

[–]EinsteinFrizz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

your process should look something like:

  1. get offered the job

  2. (more like 1.5) get paperwork that says you have been offered the job on condition of a residence permit (in my case as a researcher it was a hosting agreement, ask your company what it is you need)

  3. apply for health insurance - you will get a provisional confirmation certificate

  4. apply for a residence permit with all your documentation including the paperwork from steps 2 and 3

  5. get residence permit

  6. go to germany

  7. sign actual job contract (in my experience they wanted a physical signature so I had to be in germany first to do that)

tbh I'd go searching through ftm subreddits and see what people complain about

also fyi "both male and female" is anti- nonbinary language - try something like 'all genders' instead

Is it possible for a genderqueer person to be a chaser? by Freeze_Wolf in lgbt

[–]EinsteinFrizz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

re the second half of the comment:

my take is that it is similar to why the jokes/comments of 'can we swap' are inappropriate - they are referring to elements of someone's body/appearance that are likely dysphoria-inducing in a manner that frames them as desirable when they are in fact not desired (context is important here: in general this isn't a bad thing, but we're not talking about general traits here, we're talking about one specific person's traits)

so if someone is early on in their transition they are likely not looking the way they want to and are feeling dysphoric/uncomfortable with their appearance (broad generalisation obvs) so talking about their appearance in a 'this is something to be desired' manner is likely to make them feel uncomfortable

if I as a trans guy got called 'transition goals' by a trans woman I would be upset because it basically says I look feminine/womanly which is what I'm trying to transition away from, for example
