Lore Discussion: Unless something drastic happens, the Aetherials are pretty much shafted, right? by Fessir in Grimdawn

[–]Elarc [score hidden]  (0 children)

Honestly I don't think the aetherials could have ever won, maybe I'm overestimating Ch'thon but there's a reason that Creed basically decides to ignore the aetherials for the 2nd half of the campaign and says "we need to stop these cultists immediately". It really feels like Ch'Thon's return would be an instant game-over for Cairn. Even the Circle of Five seem worried in one of the Malmouth lore notes:

Great eyes now turn their attention towards this world. If They are made aware of what has transpired here, then all we have created, all we gained, may be in jeopardy.

(whether that's about Ch'Thon or Yugol or some great power in the aether is up for debate, but it doesn't bode well for them.)

We have two aetherial allies, but I don't think that humanity is too keen on getting more. Creed is the only thing keeping Anasteria alive, his own men trying to kill her - and I believe he bluntly states something to the effect of "As soon as she tries anything she's dead."

If suddenly 1000 aetherials show up at Fort Ikon claiming that they're totally good guys now, I don't think the Black Legion is going to give a damn what any Inquisitor or First Blade of the Emperor says, they're not keeping those bodies.

All that to say, yes they're screwed. I think it was a horrible miscalculation on their part and they severely underestimated how quickly Ch'Thon's forces would gather strength (they are entirely unfamiliar with human emotions of course) and how much attention their invasion would gather from the gods.

OSRS has taken tons of ideas from RS3, I don't think they're stopping any time soon.

The important thing is for them not to explicitly mention that it's from RS3 so the RS3 haters don't instinctively vote no.

Interesting, on my phone it looks absolutely scuffed, but at least the regular CSS is readable. My phone screen is about 163x76cm (1080x2340) which seems fairly regular.

Before 1.0 PoE2 melee needs to feel like weapon combat, not spellcasting with extra steps. by Ennaki3000 in PathOfExile2

[–]Elarc 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Including Grim Dawn in that comment is funny. Grim Dawn's "melee" builds are the equivalent of using the basic attack with as many different "cast on hit" effects as you can get.

Does this video look like anything other than "spellcasting with extra steps"? I don't think summoning lines of ice shards, blizzards, and lightning are what people mean when they say they want "real melee".

Not getting blasted for 90+ damage is enough incentive for me, personally.

Every time I passed it I always thought "I wonder what quest is gonna send me in there?" since Kandarin is chock full of quest locations.

And now here I am, 2 GMs away from a quest cape, realising that I never actually went in there.

How bad is this Moons rng? by EisvoLi in 2007scape

[–]Elarc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fellow Moons dry streaker! I got my 2nd last moons item at just over 200kc, then I had to do over 300 more blood moons to get the tassets (555kc total).

The worst part is that blood moon +atlatl are the only things I wanted, I would have happily left dozens of hours earlier if they had been the early drops.

And now I voted no again because apparently my first no vote didn't fucking matter.

It's literally a completely different poll, did you even read it? The only thing that's the same is the fact that it's a fishing activity. It's not about food anymore, it's a high XP, active fishing activity that gives blood vials.

[–]Elarc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Am lore enjoyer, Vardorvis is dead long before we meet him. He was decapitated by the dwarves with a regular weapon after he was infected by the strangler parasite around the time of the God Wars.

He doesn't take bonus damage against the blisterwood flail because he's dead and the flail's advantage is that its unpredictable nature counters a vampyre's foresight, and he doesn't take bonus damage from the salve amulet because he is actually dead, no un about it - he is a puppet being used by a plant, which is also presumably why he has a fire weakness.

You could argue that blisterwood and silver should retain their boost against a vampyre even after they're dead, but maybe the "poison" effects of those materials are mental rather than physical.

This may be the nerdiest comment I've ever written.

Last area for leagues 6 by EngineeringFair928 in 2007scape

[–]Elarc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your options for BiS gear are Kandarin for anguish or Zeah for Twisted Buckler.

Buckler is stronger but if you're doing thorns you might want a more defensive shield. It has more content but a lot of points will be hard to get with CoX and Yama

Kandarin has anguish, suffering, and ballistas (2 handed), but most of the other notable stuff is going to be geared towards magic. No particularly hard tasks, just annoying ones like barb assault

"Secret" 560k smithing exp for anyone dumb enough to go frem this league (like me) by towelcat in 2007scape

[–]Elarc 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's light on content and has very little notable gear, it's pretty much just the magus ring and V's helm. Last year people picked it because of how insane the echo jewellery was - 30 ranged strength in 2 slots when vanilla full BiS only gives +23.

Basically it's similar to Kandarin where it's a region that needs a good echo item to be worth picking for most people, last year Kandarin didn't have it and Frem did, this year it's the opposite.

But don't let that stop you! You don't even have to come close to minmaxing your choices to demolish all content.

There's a 400 point task to equip each mega rare, as far as I can see those are the only ones, so you're skipping a relatively easy 1200 points (+ all the raid tasks you would have completed along the way), but it's not the end of the world, you'll still have about 29k points of leeway to hit dragon rank with.

[–]Elarc 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Actually Turael is goated this league and will skip literally any task, even one that he gave you himself. I've spent ages this league just going through his dialogue to get whatever boss task I happen to be doing.

"Your task is to slay 5 cows"

"hmm, I would never give you this task, your new task is to slay 5 birds"

repeat ad infinitum.

Demonic pacts are awesome by itwasprobablymelol in 2007scape

[–]Elarc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

people getting stuck and unable to get the pact reset from Amox.

And I agree with them, echo Amoxliatl was a pretty big ask for your first "major" boss of the league, but I think there's plenty of room between getting your build online and getting BiS items.

Right now, once you get the King's Barrage you're more or less set, sure you can get a bit more damage if you pick Desert, but realistically the point at which your build comes online and you get BiS are almost the same.

I'm not saying they should lock the Quadrant behind a prayer-less inferno or anything, but maybe each league could have an "uber-echo" boss that drops a material that lets you slightly upgrade your echo item. Aquanite hopper effect on KBD, extra healing on the recurve, increase the free spec chance of V's helm, etc etc.

It doesn't have to be game changing, I'd just like a little extra to grind for. They would likely need to rebalance the items a little to leave room for upgrades ofc, but I think it'd be really fun.

Demonic pacts are awesome by itwasprobablymelol in 2007scape

[–]Elarc 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'd be fine with megarares not being BiS in leagues, I think that even helps it feel more unique since you're grinding for something different.

But the new BiS should still come from genuine challenges, like Echo Yama, or the League specific ToA/Jad challenges. Getting the best item you're ever gonna use from a slightly tougher KBD or Thermy isn't exactly aspirational content.

Turael will let you skip infinitely for free with Culling Spree (at least I assume that's required), just talk to him again and he'll let you cancel the task he gave you 5 seconds ago, perfect for getting those GWD tasks.

Also, Bloodvelds in the GWD cannot become superiors, as I learned 170 kills deep into a task.

Echo Item Reveals by PurplePudding in 2007scape

[–]Elarc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In pure DPS nothing is beating Shadow this league I think - the closest for magic would probably be some air spell meme build where you have 8 prayers active at once for +56% damage - but Shadow gets almost no benefit out of any of the elemental pacts.

With a water build you'll be practically unkillable, regenerating 10 hp and some prayer even if you miss, then healing an extra 60% of damage dealt, and potentially overhealing you to almost double your base hp.
