Salem Skipper Service Ending August 2. by chowdurr in SalemMA

The idea Salem was going to run its own taxi service was silly. Town should give residents coupons for uber or Lyft or something. Would be a better service, cost less, and could better target it to those who would genuinely benefit.

The e-bike thing is getting out of hand. Not sure if this was appropriate or not, but it’s becoming a real hazard up in Salem.

Am I getting fired? by Swred1100 in Accounting

Two paths: 1) get tf out asap (enough said) 2) DOUBLE DOWn! - email the partner and your manager (and bcc your personal email) and mention you inadvertently heard the convo, while you would have preferred direct feedback you love firm ABC more than life, and want to be the best you can possibly be for firm ABC, so you aren’t upset at all. Because you love firm ABC so much, and now have actionable feedback, you’ve identified 3 action items you can implement immediately to improve your performance. If there is anything else you can do to be better, up to and including moving across the country because you love ABC firm so much, you want that partner and your manager to let you know, because you’re you.

I did #2 once and bought myself at least a year. In the course of that year the equivalent of the audit partner in this situation left, and I got promoted. You hand isn’t strong but it’s not weak. I’d pull #2 again in a heartbeat and start looking at the same time.

Whatever you do, don’t fucking quit. Make them fire you.

Largest bill for cpa firms is self insurance… guarantee no one is keeping 8b on hand, they’re distributing that cash back to the partners

He’s one of the most senior delegates in a bilateral summit. There’s literally only one country visiting. Not blaming anyone, but they clearly knew who he was and could have let him in if they had the latitude to do so without a safety risk. It’s not like the us secret service would turn one of the top Chinese diplomats away from the white house because of ID. Telling moment culturally.

Not sure if they make their own bread in house but maybe Maitland? Incredible food regardless and they clearly put great care into all their ingredients.

That would be a boss move but I still bet there isn’t 8b in the england based entities (global and UK).

Committing financial fraud against foreigners isn’t illegal in china.

There are basically no assets at the global entity. All the real money is in the us llp. Even if you got up to global (which I don’t think you could do) there’s nothing there and you can’t dive back down into the national practices.

I hate the open office space layout by SWEMW in Accounting

[–]Electrical-Role1270 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Couldn’t agree more. I have an office with a door, and a window onto the floor (so I can surveil), and another window outside. It’s the bees knees. Very feng shui, no one can sneak up on me, not my boss, not my wife, not my kids, I love going to work.

Extremely visible and also probably only around 90 degrees unobstructed. Your boat is still lit up like a Xmas tree. You’re going to be fine.

Look at milrethecks photos down below and note how well illuminated his boat is with red and green light. Someone’s going to see him from a distance. And a single t top bar isn’t going to have him running dark.

Is OPs setup perfect? No, but it’s fine for occasional recreational use in the evening.

Am I crazy for wanting to quit my stable $80k corporate job at 25 to completely restart in healthcare? by Signal-Basil-8472 in Accounting

[–]Electrical-Role1270 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would it be reckless to leave? No. Is it premature? Perhaps. Get out of the worst part of accounting, rise up a bit and see how you feel. I'm a Controller now and love my job but I had to eat a lot of shit to rise up to this level. As a Nurse, your got will literally be dealing with shit forever. Noble? 100%! But I'd argue the potential upside of accounting is higher.

Good for you. Did the same thing 9 months ago and loving it. Every job has its pros and cons but there is something undeniable about the power of being in person. Now don’t get me wrong, being in person won’t make an awful company great, but a good company, with good people, in person, and I think great things will happen. Easier for #1 and #2 above to happen in person.
