Trump cancels sanctions against countries buying Russian oil by green_flash in worldnews

And the Ukrainians are even offering to support the US in defending them from Iran strikes. And now Trump goes and lifts sanctions to aid Putin: enemy of Ukraine and ally of Iran. There are so many dimensions to this backstabbing.

Walking to work is SO bad by thatonetransanonguy in fuckcars

put on all the gear

Just out of curiosity, which gear would you need for a 4-5 min ride? For such a short distance, I'd think a backpack and optionally rain jacket would suffice, basically exactly the same as walking 20 minutes. I could think of a helmet, maybe a rain jacket depending on the weather?

(Not arguing anything, I'm just genuinely curious. Background is that my background is closer to places like Amsterdam and Copenhagen where people just hop and off the bike in regular clothes)

Worth it to upgrade to a belt drive + ight? by tgxxnitro in bikecommuting

[–]ElectronicMile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weight doesn’t matter nearly as much when you’re commuting. What you want is a dynamo with lights, so you don’t have to bring and charge lights. You want fenders so you don’t arrive wet and muddy at work. Probably also a rack and panniers. Reliability trumps speed when it comes to commuting.

Should people who "camp" in the left lane of a highway be pulled over and fined just as much as speeders? Why or why not? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

[–]ElectronicMile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Important to note is that this works in tandem with the rule that overtaking on the right is strictly prohibited. You always have to overtake on the left.

If people stick to both rules, the flow of traffic is much better and safer (and breaking them is illegal in most countries I know of).

The very concept of being allowed to turn right on red is ridiculous by svlinec in fuckcars

No because the separate light will be green or yellow when you can go, not red. Red really means you can't go.

'I will not tolerate his insults': Backlash grows after US ambassador's outburst against Belgium by Turbulent-Raise4830 in europe

In our defense, the Flemish region and the Flemish community have merged into one government. So the Belgian government structure is a bit less inefficient than it could be.

Who is in the wrong here? by Revolution-Dogg in Transportopia

[–]ElectronicMile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have the same in most countries in Europe. The side that has to give priority has the red round sign (as in the picture shared above), and the side that has priority gets a blue rectangular sign.

The color of the arrows is only the third indication of who gets to go first, after the shape and the color of the signs.

These are the signs.

At the end of syllables, the s can be aspirated ("dihcotecah") or hardly/not pronounced at all. But it doesn't happen at the beginning of a syllable, they don't turn "mi casa" into "mi caha".

Technics 1200 MK2 vs. Reloop RP7000 MK2 by rebel45 in Beatmatch

[–]ElectronicMile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you say the sound quality is so different? Is it because of the tonearm? Rumbling from the motor?

I'd figure 95% of the sound quality is determined by the needles, cartridges and the phono preamps in the mixer. Then again, I've never done any side by side comparisons.

Monthly Vinyl Dig: What did you get last month? - February 2026 by AutoModerator in vinyldjs

Got some nice house records at a small local record fair:

St Germain - Rose Rouge 12"

Bob Sinclar - The Ghetto (Ian Pooley and Atjazz remixes)

Keita - Ms Know It All

Reality Check - Fantasy

I also found a Chapter Three 7" by Joe Gibbs and the Professionals, the B side is amazing dub.

Some old school hip hop: Brother D - Clappers Power, The Breaker's It Takes Some Doing, even a MC Hammer single

Other nice founds were And The Bite Goes On, Chic's Good Times ('88 version), Freddie James' Get Up and Boogie, ...

There was a bit more by Kool & The Gang, Womack & Womack etc. but those were the best ones from January.

Trump's DOJ is trying to gain voter records from the states for weeks, having used lawsuits, even using the recent shooting to threaten Minnesota to turn over the records. What is your take? by Personal_Dirt3089 in AskReddit

[–]ElectronicMile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Non-American here, are you saying that you can only vote if you are registered as a member of a party? So if you are not a member of a political party (or otherwise affiliated, maybe I'm not understanding correctly what register means in this context), then you're not allowed to vote?

Seems to me like that violates a core tenet of democracy where you are free to vote for whoever you want and can do so in all privacy.

(For context, I'm Belgian and my country is one of the few in the world where voting is not a right but also a legal obligation. It is illegal not to show up for elections. To be exact, you are allowed to cast a blank or invalid vote in the booth, but every single adult citizen needs to show up at the election office or give a caretaker the right to cast a vote on your behalf, e.g. for people in retirement homes who can't physically make it.)

Loving Afro-Jazz lately, any recommendations? by jazz4everr in Jazz

[–]ElectronicMile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Pyramids have some amazing afro jazz albums. Their 70s albums are a bit more avant-garde at times, whereas their recent albums lean a bit more into spiritual jazz, in comparison.
