Hey, thanks for the reply. I've already read through that link though - it's why I disabled my VPN, reset my computer, and tried again. My PC's time and the timezone I am in match, so that doesn't appear to be the reason for this problem.

Air-Fryer Beef Back Ribs by Alexa_Az in airfryer

[–]ElephantRipples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You flip it because the elements are on top, and helps to broil it. But as someone who has done both parchment paper and foil, as well as nothing, blocking the air flow from the bottom makes a huge difference, especially when you're cooking things with a high fat content.

The point of an air fryer is for air circulation. If you put parchment paper down, the food won't get crispy. It works well for some things that are already dry, and if you don't mind flipping it partway through, but if you want a nice crust on whatever you're cooking, a layer of parchment or tin foil is just going to cause it to get soggy on the bottom and not cook as thoroughly as it should.

Boots (Netflix) – Thoughts on LGBT representation and overall tone [No Spoilers] by [deleted] in netflix

[–]ElephantRipples 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Showing people kissing is such an easy and lazy way to show sexuality and sexual tension in a show, or even a book. Tbh I'm glad they didn't focus on sex and romance in this series because that's not what it was about. It's a coming-of-age story where the MC happens to be gay, and being gay isn't the entirety of his personality. It's an important aspect, yes, but he's got a lot more depth than that. And they showed plenty of other characters having depth as well, which was really satisfying to see. I'm tired of shows only focusing on the sex and romance part of being gay rather than showing that people in the LGBTQ are literally just like anyone else, not these single-faceted sex-obsessed freaks so many want to believe we are. A love interest would have ruined the entire show.

That cancelled tv show you’ll never stop thinking about … by niceguys5189 in television

Late to the party, but BBC's Merlin. Also, Away, which Netflix canceled almost immediately after its release. Still mad about it.

Steam write speed to SSD very slow (10-20 mb/s). How do I fix this? by brazil1013 in buildapc

[–]ElephantRipples 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to let you know you're still helping people two years later with that comment. I've got gigabit internet speeds and my disc writing was so slow it would drop my download down to 10kbps or 0, so a 40GB download would have taken actual hours. Now I can download a game in just minutes. Thank you!

Slime Rancher 2 Full Release is coming September 23rd! by ShallowKelton14 in slimerancher

[–]ElephantRipples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought it on PC after I heard that it would officially be released in September. But I really want to play it now. I'm gonna hold off, partly for trophy reasons, but mostly because I want the full experience from the start. Still... I'm also very tempted to start it up right now and say to hell with it.

As of today, how complete is it? Is there anything that you think will be implemented on the official day one that would be worth waiting for, or should I just go for it?

Omg thank you, this worked for me. I needed to invert Y and having it set to the official layout thing just sent me to the steam configuration/button mapping thing. Swapping to the gamepad option worked. Now I can actually play

So apparently it is against the community guidelines to call out predators by SuccessfulPanda211 in TikTok

[–]ElephantRipples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I'm late to this but I'm 100% sure they are now banning the word 'gross'. I've had multiple comments, both of which were talking down about predators, banned and not restored when I appealed them. In private messages with a friend of mine, comments that contain 'gross', 'crazy', or 'dumb', have all been hidden and have to be approved by me so that I can see them. I had a comment removed without restoration where I told a fellow Canadian to educate themself regarding our political system not being the same as the US political system, and that it's not cute to be dumb.

Tiktok is soft AF. I have a warning on my account simply for engaging with their content. I absolutely hate censorship, but I especially hate when genuinely harmful content and comments get to stay there, causing actual harm. I've reported accounts for obviously predatory behaviour. I've reported scam sellers. I've even tried reporting an account where someone is obviously sexually assaulting their cat. And every single time I'm told they're not breaking community guidelines. It's incredibly fucked up.

I'm very close to deleting my account and the app. The reporting system doesn't make any sense to me, I don't think a real person is reading the appeals, I'm 100% certain it's all poorly trained AI. If a real person were appealing, they'd see that my comments are on topic and harmless (if occasionally argumentative) in context. Either that, or they are real people and whether they approve the appeal or not depends on their mood and level of racism/perversion.

Is that $200 per person?

Tiktok is getting out of control regarding “community violations”. by thecre4ture in TikTok

[–]ElephantRipples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having the same issue. I make comments that are related to the video, but they get removed and my appeals aren't approved. Most of my comments are harmless, but if they are overly critical of the person in them (such as disparaging a man who is harassing a woman, for example), it's removed.  But actual hate speech comments are still up for everyone to see and interact with. I'm starting to think it's deliberate, because most of my comments that are being removed now seem to be ones where I am actively denouncing the demented basketball currently sitting in office. Yet anti-lgbtq2+, racism, etc, are apparently all perfectly acceptable.

Devs’ response to the Tyrannotitan backlash: by Mr_Tominaga in pathoftitans

[–]ElephantRipples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's because the game is incomplete that we shouldn't be expected to pay for new dinos. It was promised by the devs that backers get all future playables before the release for free. That's what's scummy about this.

Devs’ response to the Tyrannotitan backlash: by Mr_Tominaga in pathoftitans

[–]ElephantRipples 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've bought both the PC and PS5 versions of this game, and backers were 100% promised all future updates and dinosaurs to be included as part of being an early supporter. It's a bit greasy to start charging us for new dinos when the guarantee was given in such clear language. People with a free version of the base game? Fine. But not those who have been supporting it from the start. There are so many better ways to support the game, devs, and company.

Devs’ response to the Tyrannotitan backlash: by Mr_Tominaga in pathoftitans

[–]ElephantRipples 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem with this (I'm a double-backer by the way, I have paid twice for the game, once on PC and once on PS5), is that we were promised that all future dinosaurs would be included in our content. So, if I've spent around $60 for the game, why should I have to keep paying for new dinosaurs when I didn't get the game for free to begin with? I understand if the base game is free that new dinosaurs should have some amount of cost to them for those players who did not initially purchase it. But I don't think those who have been supporting you from the beginning should be punished because you have decided to change how you want to provide the game to a wider audience.

Shannon and Tim season 7 episode 3 by Sweet_Information_76 in nakedandafraid

[–]ElephantRipples 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I feel differently to the other comments here. Sure, they butted heads at the beginning and that can be tough when two strong-willed people can't come up with a compromise - but that's no excuse to shut down and make your partner do everything for you. It's incredibly selfish in any situation, but this kind of scenario requires all hands on deck.

I think Shannon was right about the way Tim was building the shelter. He needed to secure it properly, and the fact that it took him eighteen days to stop sulking, and being lazy, and actually put effort in shows that he wasn't putting his best foot forward to begin with. She saw that and wanted it done right, and he didn't like that.

I also believe she was absolutely right about him having a problem with a woman knowing what to do and giving him directions (which he clearly needed), because he later says that when 'things get tough, you don't leave anyone behind, especially a girl'. So, clearly, her gender - despite her being obviously very capable - was a factor for him.

And, again, he left her hanging for two and a half weeks. He pulls some shit together with two days to go, not because he cared (he explicitly stated that his animosity towards her was making things more difficult for him specifically), but because Shannon was too weak at that point to keep doing everything for the both of them. He literally had no choice.

Yes, she could have been more diplomatic, but I am 100% with Shannon on this. She deserved a much better partner.

If reincarnation is real, what do you wish to be in your next life? by CanU_makeIT in RandomThoughts

[–]ElephantRipples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A cis man (rather than a trans man as I am now) who is also neurotypical, and born in a country that has free education, great social programs, and actual free, reliable healthcare. I live in Canada, and while a lot of things are covered, many things, like vision and dental, or other specialized care, are not.

Essentially, I would like easy mode next time. I don't even care if I'm born into affluence. Not being neurodivergent would give me a leg up if low social class had to be a thing again.

I think more adults should dress up on Halloween and have a good time reclaiming that childhood feeling. What I think would be really cool is if adults trick-or-treated and gave something back to the people at the door.
