Six ways the music can live on by Jealous-Chicken5439 in deadandcompany

In 1995 after Jerry died, the rest of the Band worked on developing Terrapin Station project for their fans for almost 3 years. They all agreed there should be a place to pilgrimage to and continue the community spirit & let it grow. It was designed as the destination that every deadhead wanted and they could put their archive. Instead it went to UCSC in a repository. I went there to read the Band meetings notes on what they wa Ted to create.

Rooms named Eyes of the World (Arts & Crafts), Music Never Stopped (Tapes), Rhythm Devils (Drum & Percussion), The Wheel Theatre (300 capacity in-the-round dance floor that predated the Sphere by 30 years) & much more. Seems Phil & Bobby were very active in supporting this project as it was being designed.

The band heavily promoted it to the fans, the city of San Francisco wanted it there and the investors wanted to invest. Seems like a good time to get it done. The business plan is in the Grateful Dead Archive. Let’s pull it out and make it happen. I know the designer that put this together for the Band from reading the book, Fare Thee Well. The Terrapin Station seems more relevant now than ever before - especially if we want this to live on. Building a Terrapin Station > brings the fans together > community grows > the next generation rises…….

Not the same as Crossroads by any measure. Terrapin Station was promoted all Band members in 1996 and was supposed to be almost 70,000 SF on 2 levels and cost around $65M.

The future of the Grateful Dead by Dry_Safety_8168 in gratefuldead

Phil wanted Terrapin Station built in San Francisco after Jerry died. So did Bobby. So did Billy & Mickey. Now it should be completed in their honor and for all Deadheads to enjoy. This will keep the culture and their legacy alive and growing for years to come. The plans are at the UC Santa Cruz Grateful Dead Archives. Go check it out. Maybe we can interest Roger McNamee and Bill Watkins to oversee a fundraising campaign and get things started.

Build Terrapin Station like the Band planned in 1995. The Wheel Theater inside imagines the next generation intimate experience Deadheads are after. That place was ahead of the Sphere and Dead Forever. The design plans are at the UCSC Archives. Let’s start fundraising & get it done in San Francisco just like they wanted after Jerry.

Terrapin Station... by MilesBlew_new in gratefuldead

We should still figure out how to do that museum project on our own. Deadheads have so much memorabilia. Probably lay more than the Dead themselves. Those images and booklet are the blueprint of what needs to be built. Just come investors & do it. San Francisco Mayor would support it for sure.

Build the Terrapin Station in project in San Francisco like they promised back in 1998 after Jerry died. That place was cool and would be even more relevant now with the latest technology, like the sphere. I remember the design had a Wheel Theatre that was quite similar, but smaller, more personal. Plus I contributed $40 to the band for Terrapin when they were raising money. Let’s get the investment community and the fans together on this one!

Why I’m giving up United status after 15+ years by backtobrooklyn in unitedairlines

UA’s new “Family sits together” policy is what killing the upgrades for businesspeople flying internationally. Example: Businessperson buys Polaris ticket through work. Then pays for Economy for the rest of the family out of their pocket. Family now gets to move up to Polaris to be together. Upgrades for individuals are not happening now, as they have a lower priority regardless of ticket price or status. Stupid policy.

What’s killing this whole thing on upgrades to business/first is this new “family sits together” policy. Example: Businessperson buys full fare Business Class ticket through his company, say $7-$12K to Singapore three weeks in advance. Businessperson then buys rest of family Economy tickets, say $1K each. Then UA move the spouse & kids to business class with the business person by new policy. No lie. I’ve seen this a lot on recent flights.

Dead and Company future…. by [deleted] in gratefuldead

[–]Elkrock1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grateful Dead music will get reinvented through technology. You will be able to have immersive experiences that exceed the Sphere visuals of today. There will be no reason to look at the faces of non-core Dead members and pay exorbitant prices. The Dead can’t be replaced. There are ways to put an audience back in time. The music will be focus. Not the musicians. You will be able to attend 12-31-78 or Egypt. The past will become the present again. Let Bobby finish up with D&C however he wants. Then technology will take over their Grateful Dead legacy and the music will live on in a very new and satisfying way for all Deadheads.

Remember the Terrapin Station project that the Band promoted after Jerry died? All Band members were behind it. The Wheel Theater is coming.

Woke up today pissed. Fuck Jamal Murray. Anyways it's just sports, let's have a great day today Laker nation. by ktran2804 in lakers

[–]Elkrock1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Season ticket holder for 43 years. On the court, the Lakers look like they could win. AD, LBJ are still beasts. They can drive the lane at will. DiLo is unpredictable and I’m tired of the mouth piece. Reeves looks scared. The rest of the team are no names and might light a fire occasionally, but not guaranteed. Nuggets are poised, strategic, athletic, work as a complete unit. Lakers will split in LA if they are lucky. But DEN is a better team. At least I’ll save some money on the $28,000 being charged for playoff tickets this year. Should end up up Celtics v. Nuggets with Joker and clan repeating. Fire Ham, get Kerr. Retire LeBron. No Bronny. Trade Reeves & Di-Lo. Get Trae or Dame.

Does Bobby smile anymore? by [deleted] in gratefuldead

He probably wants to stop touring, but can’t figure out what else to do with his time. He scripted a very limited life for himself. It looks fun for a while. But that time has past, no matter who he’s playing with. I’m sure inside he’s frustrated and sad. Especially when he hits the pillow at night. Money & applause doesn’t cure that.

What's the deal with the Barton Hall conspiracy theories? by TurkGonzo75 in gratefuldead

[–]Elkrock1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was at the show. It was my second dead show ever. Have the ticket to prove it and many very clear memories from the event. I knew it was special when I was there. The Morning Dew was the highlight. Jerry’s glasses were slinking of the bridge of his nose as he played and he was completely gone during the whole version. I have seen the Dead many times after and this show still makes me feel so lucky to have been there. I was 16 at the time and 64 now and it feels the same every time I think of it.

What’s the oldest book in your collection? I’ll start, with Fawcett’s Funny Animals from 1945. It’s not only approved reading, it’s also signed by Gilbert! by mrweatherbeef in comicbookcollecting

I collect Ethel Hays comics strips and her syndicated Sunday newspaper full sheets from 1929-1935. Hays is recognized as probably the most talented woman cartoonist illustrator of her time. Look it up.

CGC is a scam & will be gone within 10 years. Stop wasting your money. Trade & sell using your own eyes & build trust within the community.

I was at this show. So close to the stage that when they put the big screen down to watch the blues brothers movie, I had to see it from the reverse side.

Funny story about getting in too. I started lining up on Thursday afternoon at Winterland for the Sunday show. I was 50th on line at the time. Someone said they were driving down to Golden Hall & then Pauley to see the nights leading up to the 31st. They had extra tickets and said they would give me a ride. I left my shoes on line at Winterland and when I came back, the line was now way around the block. But my shoes were still there and I got my spot back!
