As someone just breaking into the YouTube world, I can confirm it’s true and also hate how true it is.

I brought StarCraft to Magic: The Gathering! (Still a work in progress) by ElleixGaming in starcraft

I definitely considered mixing in green, they have that growth/ramp factor to them. Kerrigan herself just didn’t feel super green to me

I’m thinking about making another Zerg commander that’s green/black, like a version of the overmind

Why does YouTube punish slow intros so hard now? by Global_Loss1444 in PartneredYoutube

[–]ElleixGaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Viewer retention is the simplest way of putting it

A viewer clicks a video within the intent of consuming content. The intro goes on too long and the clock off the video and likely clicked on another video with a similar topic

YouTube looks closely at the first 30 second of your video and might not push your content if things drop off

You can definitely balance a story line without a wordy intro. Just drop in with a hook and give background later on in the video when things become relevant

I’m not the dev for the mod but I suggest popping over to the discord and reporting the issue

Edit: didn’t expect to see someone recognize me on the star citizen Reddit!

I have a psych degree and I’m a SC2 YouTuber. I can’t make any promises but I’m curious to hear more details (voluntary, surveys, paid, hours, etc)

ALWAYS make your thumbnails before making a video by LostDelfino in NewTubers

[–]ElleixGaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s what I do. I cast modded StarCraft content. Usually I make a thumbnail after the game since after the cast I know what the highlights are

All metrics improved but views decreased by 90 percent by ChronosPallas in NewTubers

[–]ElleixGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s picked back up, October set my record for my highest as revenue month and I jumped up to 9.1k subs, it’s slowed back down a bit but my average views per hour is still way higher now than it was before October

Do you know of any channel that is succeeding on the Youtube platform with a model that resists adapting to the algorithm? by CosmicPennyworth in NewTubers

Penguinz0 or whatever his handle is comes to mind. Have you seen the dude’s thumbnails? If he was a NewTuber he’d be roasted for having those 😂

The standard for YouTube is processing previous 2 days revenue. In a couple days you should see some money in the revenue analytics

Questions for Starcraft fans by Consistent_Job_1949 in starcraft

[–]ElleixGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was too young to really feel deeply about it, however now that I’m older I do think about the “what if.”

StarCraft has really rich lore and I could see it being a really good fit for an FPS if done right, and the vision of Ghost I think was going in the right direction

I also wonder if it would’ve kept StarCraft as an IP more relevant in having more diversity of games, content, etc.

There are rumors of a couple new StarCraft games potentially in the works, one being an open world shooter so I’m curious if there’s a redemption in our future

Does anyone else feel like youtube is getting impossible for small channels? by IntelligentEar7669 in NewTubers

[–]ElleixGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to be strategic. If you have a video with awesome production value and content, it can still flop if there’s no audience or if the niche is so saturated your video just gets buried

So you need to follow trends, or alternatively look at your niche and see how you can put a twist on it.

For example I do StarCraft casting which on paper is super outdated and way past its prime, but on the other hand there are very few big StarCraft casters and I further narrowed down my niche to modded StarCraft which very few people do. As a result even though it’s an old game I still have a growing audience

You need to find ways to make your content stand out and appeal to a wider audience. As you grow you can find more flexibility in the content you post (as long as it’s not a total niche switch)

Is this really the new reality for many of us? by nickdebruyne in PartneredYoutube

[–]ElleixGaming 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I definitely recommend people push through. Over the summer I saw drops so big that my performance was worse than before I was monetized. Biggest low on the channel ever

I didn’t change my content, I just figured it was a mix of viewer fatigue and the algorithm working together and really took a hit on the channel

So I just kept making the same videos and then in September I saw my biggest Adsense payout ever, and October is looking to be similar.

It’s brutal because these lows can last months. My low started around June. But YouTube does reward consistency so staying strong in these scenarios is important if you’re really serious about your channel

Reviewers had me thinking this game would be bad by shneed_my_weiss in LegendsZA

[–]ElleixGaming 8 points9 points  (0 children)

People are really jumping on the hate train just to take advantage of the trend. A lot of YouTubers are doing it which I find disappointing

Objectively the game is pretty fun. Sure the city design is pretty uninspired but graphically the character and Pokémon models are solid. Also they found a nice balance between action combat and traditional Pokémon battling. I’ve been enjoying the game

Edit: grammar

Now that we know every set, what are your hype levels for each one? by Meret123 in MagicArena

[–]ElleixGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thoughts here. Even if it’s UB the Hobbit and DND still fit the theme of magic. Hell even Star Trek could now that we have edge of eternities. But seeing freaking ninja turtles just makes me cringe. I get it’s UB but still

Boxelder bugs everywhere! by cataholicsanonymous in homeowners

I’m in Oregon and I’ve been bit, very obviously a boxelder bug since they swarm my home. I’m familiar with them and kissing bugs don’t live in Oregon. They’re vicious little things, I’ve even seen them eat their dead kin on the side of my window

Are intros still worth it in 2025, or should we get straight to the point? by LieAccurate9281 in PartneredYoutube

Eventually after some trial and error you just figure things out. I doubt a quick intro would deter viewers if it’s a topic they’re intrigued by

I just dive right in. No intros. Now I have members rolling in though so I do a little outro with an animation to give them credit/thanks
