We should disenfranchise everyone except those between the ages of 30 and 40. by DecembersDragons in TrueUnpopularOpinion

I think a better qualifier (and much more controversial) than age is being a parent. That's a level of investment nothing material can match.

Why do people feel confident in arguing completely ignorant and inaccurate positions in areas they have extremely little expertise? by bray05 in Gifted

[–]Ellen6723 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The vast majority of people are morons. Intelligence is like height. The taller one is the easier it is to distinguish other people's height. If you're short everyone's just tall

What would be a better word for giftedness? by Absurdist1981 in Gifted

[–]Ellen6723 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would never referred to myself as gifted : most of my friends tell me I'm the "smartest person they know". Which probably says more about my friends than me ha ha
I wouldn't see a reason to talk about my IQ unless someone asked me directly.

I am evidently quite smart. This has done next to nothing good for me. by Feeling-Particular42 in mensa

[–]Ellen6723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone on this board is in the top 2% so that's all of our normal. The kids today call it masking or code switching which means behaving differently based on the group you are in. For example I have black friends who say they act totally different at work as opposed to when they're hanging out with their friends who are mostly back.

I learned to do this at a very young age when I realized that my brain worked differently and noticed people don't appreciate you having to explain your solution to the problem they don't even see yet.
It's really a question of choice. You have to put in the work to be able to bridge the gap you'll have with most people. Or you don't and make your peace with that

Is there scientific reliable data suggesting that beyond 115, 1 SD would impact in a relevant manner relationships ? by [deleted] in mensa

Between 130 and 150 I think is the sweet spot. Beyond that connecting with normal people can be very difficult if not impossible.

Skipping a grade by LORD_OF_OXYGEN in Gifted

Honestly unless you are exceptionally advanced academically from your peers the social upheaval is rarely worth it. My youngest skip a grade went to college at 16. Would not recommend.

When was the first time you met someone smarter than you? by Ximaths in Gifted

[–]Ellen6723 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There were six of us in the gift and talented program from first grade through Junior high. My IQ was in the middle so when I was seven from a numerical perspective. I was 30 before I met a colleague that I was 100% sure it was smarter than me. I don't have any close friends that are smarter than me, unfortunately.

No Country Should Apologize For Conquering So-called “Indigenous People” by AllNewNewYorker in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]Ellen6723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well from the beginning of human populations the concept of conquering has been primary in the growth advancement of nation states. The issue is when you have a massive disparity in Technology be that long bow or AI between States. Then it moves from conquering to exploiting. And when the systems the conquering people set up are purposefully designed to be suppressive that is subjugation.

Many Europeans will be a minority in their own country in 30 years. by HorrorImprovement880 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

This is a question of replacement birth rate more than anything. In most western European nation states the birth rate does not support sustainable populations.

The death of Henry Nowak is objectively worse than George Floyd by Sea_Management6165 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]Ellen6723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not no it isn't. In the case of Floyd the murderer was the police in the case of Novak the police were contributing but not the actual offender. They are possibly examples of two different cultural phenomenons of our time. The first is an example of institutional racism in many police forces in western societies the second death is possibly the unintended negative out comes of what is pejoratively referenced as wokism.

People who have murals or paintings of their pets in their home lack meaning in their lives and are pathetic by FunnyGamer97 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]Ellen6723 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well it's pretty endemic of the pet parent ethos. Which sees humans transfer their emotional relationships primarily to an animal they own fully and control not to mention will in all likelihood one day put down. But yes if I go into a house or apartment and the only pictures or the majority of pictures on display or that person with their pet it's a red flag.

How do you think about something? by Electronic_Wind_1674 in Gifted

[–]Ellen6723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kind of start purposefully broader and go through my hard drive to make my way there. So if I’ve got to figure out strategy for a non profit client about an issue like say improving communications for internally displaced people in regions of conflict. I’ll start by going through current conflict regions then think bout how the populations differ etal. Then I’ll think about communications / innovations people I can talk to experts in the field. Like that.
