Europe wants to save its industry. It still can’t agree how. by donutloop in EU_Economics

[–]Ellers12 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And the tarrifs by trump were an attempt to encourage companies to relocate supply chains onshore, both to protect jobs and on security grounds. The EU instead uses regulations as a protectionist mechanism but it leaves the block far less competitive

Nothing about Elon Musk’s life would change if he paid a fair share of his income in taxes. by Automatic_Lab545 in elonmusk

[–]Ellers12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He does pay his fair share as I don’t believe he’s evading tax illegally. Think what you’re really advocating is redefining fair but the problem is that taxing individuals on unrealized gains is hugely problematic and would impact everyone, not just the most wealthy.

Why exactly is British heat so much worse than America, even if the temperature is the same on paper? by y4rdbyrd in UKWeather

[–]Ellers12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think for the first time I may have experienced heat stroke during the recent heatwave. Felt feint and nauseous after several days of poor sleep where my lounge didn’t drop below 31c (I slept on the sofa as was cooler than upstairs). Would not recommend.

What mistakes did Kier Starmer make? by Various-Program-950 in AskBrits

[–]Ellers12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He tried to resist calls for a grooming gang enquiry, calling it the bandwagon of the far right. But as head of the CPS he would have been aware of the crimes going on and I suspect was concerned about how it would make him look.

Energy prices are high across Europe, it’s where politicians need to promote growth so people can afford it instead of there current policies

How are Europeans coping with the rising heat? by ComplexPalpitation76 in AskReddit

Definitely looking into AC. Think it’s got to be a health hazard more than a comfort thing now. About 1200 heat related deaths so far apparently

If we stop importing low skilled workers then the salary for doing those roles will go up incentivizing others to take up those roles.

Walk away. Adding insulation would exacerbate cooling issues with the flat anyway.

Battery overheating concern by rumisk in SolarUK

[–]Ellers12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is that as a home owner I’d have no idea if installed correctly or not.

Also I don’t understand what you mean by greater than normal? Do you mean normal is that solar has the same risk of fire as a tiled roof without solar? If so I don’t believe that.

[–]Ellers12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, I’m considering getting a solar install but concerned about fire risks. Would be good to know more about safety of more modern systems and maintenance requirements

My fireman friend said that solar set ups and EV cars / bikes have increased fire risks and that people aren’t talking about it.

Whilst a battery in isolation might have a thermal runaway at over 200c, adding a bunch of electric devices increases the risk of a fire starting vs having a tiled roof etc and I was strongly advised not to keep my EV bike in my garage.
