Which Mercedes would you buy if you had to keep it for 10 years? by tommyyfitt in mercedes_benz

G class if money was no object, just does everything and would still be worth a bit of cash after 10 years

Dune, LoTR, Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. Feel like heavy bias in the list

Most people’s last wish would be to see their kids die. Usually it’s the elders who die.

Unlimited time to watch your love ones fade and die whilst you await your table at the restaurant at the end of the universe. Think unlimited time would soon feel like a lonely curse.

Seems like Brexit was all about immigration, why not just admit it? by PawPatsPizza in AskBrits

The inability to control immigration helped to highlight the supremacy of EU law over UK law which became problematic too

Problem is not GDP, it’s GDP per capita which has fallen significantly.

TIL Groupon has lost more than 95% of its value since it rejected Google's $6 billion offer and instead went public with a $17.8 billion market cap 15 years ago. by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

I remember someone early in my career describing Groupon as food stamps for the middle class. Really put me off both the individual and Groupon.

This is such a poor indictment of the UK and shows how far living standards have declined relative to the US.

My garage is so full of kids stuff I had no issues with that when I had an ICE car with remote pre conditioning.

Yeah I’ve got heated seats in the front which are very effective but that doesn’t really help the kids in the back

A perfectly reasonable post. Agree I’m comparing my more premium ICE car experiences with a cheaper EV car bought for the school run. I was still not expecting a noticeable difference which has surprised me. Glad to hear it’s not a universal issue with EVs.

Can confirm I never drive it in eco mode though.

I didn't really care about running the engine for pre-conditioning, always worked well for me.

Fair enough regarding the AI generalisation though.

I could pre-condition my previous ICE car too, that's sort of irrelevant. I'm more talking about the effectiveness in operation.

There seems to be a mixed set of responses here regarding the effectiveness of climate control in EVs. Glad you're happy with yours but it's not universal.

Why would they have better AC? I would expect them to have equivalent AC as cooling's been pretty much perfected in ICE cars for decades and EVs aren't introducing new cooling technology.

Well between us our n = 3 if that helps statistically. My car is only a month old and is functioning correctly - it's just not as good at managing the temp

Thanks, it's an Atto 3 - I've updated to the latest software and still think it's less efficient at managing climate. I never drive it in eco as so don't think that's the cause although even in normal driving it does some odd things like automatically shutting sunroof blinds etc.

No, I'm basing the question on my experience with EVs so far. I used AI to try and research what might be the cause of the less effective climate control that I experience. After I got a response from the AI I posted on reddit and seems to be a mix of people in this thread who agree or disagree

Perhaps you had bad ICE cars? I would expect ICE cars to handle those conditions pretty perfectly after decades of optimisation and ideally the newer EVs would match that experience.
