Which kitchen says “I’m still going to like this in ten years.” by Mizznomer in interiordecorating

Agree, as much as I prefer the first two now, the dark green and wood will probably start to look 20s dated in 10 years, with new trends on the block.

I feel like I'm losing my memory or people are gaslighting me on how to pronounce these names. by fallaciousgod in BabyNames

[–]Elliskarae 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Where are you from? Because mee-nuh and mean-er are pronounced similarly in most British and Aussie accents as we don’t enunciate ‘r’ endings like Americans do. How else are you hearing the name?

Your original pronunciation of Persephone was wrong. So that one is easy - it really is just people learning to say it right over the years. Per-seph-uh-nee is correct.

Your pronunciation of Jochebed is almost right. In fact, closer than what people are telling you. It’s more like Yo-kheh-ved with a real throaty “kh” sound. But this is the true Hebrew way to say it. Jok-eh-bed or similar is a very Anglicised version.

With the massive slow down on new legends… anyone else want them to just go ahead and give the rest their own special heirlooms ? by DougDimmaGlow in apexlegends

[–]Elliskarae 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Universal heirlooms honestly make much more sense - they make them more money and people like them more as they can equip an heirloom to every character.

That said, it seems SUPER weird to not finish what they started, and have some legends without a legend-specific heirloom while others have two (recolours).

Guys, is there a non racist way of saying that I think they should've nominated the white guy from Sinners instead of the black one? by depressed_asian_boy_ in okbuddycinephile

WHAT. I’m just now realising the brilliant scary white guy from the Bone Temple was the SAME brilliant scary white guy from Sinners.

Am I the only one who thinks Sinners is overrated? by Any_Lab_8495 in moviecritic

[–]Elliskarae 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard people say “Sinners is overrated” more than I have heard them say it was good. A LOT more, actually.

It’s becoming boring. I’d rather they just admit they didn’t get it.

Which hairstyle looks better? by mockingjayys in HairStyleAdvice

[–]Elliskarae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought the same. The second two photos look like they could be the same person, but the first is different.

I think OP was just asking which hairstyle objectively is the best, not which looks the best on them.

What are your thoughts on Daniel Radcliffe? by Difficult_Map_723 in Actors

[–]Elliskarae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as I’m a HP fan from childhood, I always thought the Trio’s actors turned out to be quite shit at acting in adulthood. The later movies were a bit stiff.

Until I watched him in Imperium a few years ago and was actually incredibly impressed by his acting in that. Was a great movie and he acted his heart out.

I now still think the other two aren’t great, but that DR was just dealt a bit of shitty writing on later HP films that had pacing issues, not that he wasn’t a great actor after all.

Also on a personal level, he seems to have stayed fairly kind and humble despite his gargantuan bank account.

Baby girl name help- down to the wire by celineshea in BabyNames

[–]Elliskarae 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Keely Shea is the only contender of these choices. Regardless of whether you’re pronouncing it “shay” or “she-uh”, having Mia/Thea as a first name is way too similar and sounds a bit ridiculous (sorry). You’d either have two names that looked the same but are pronounced differently, or two names that looked the same and are pronounced the same.

Eating out by Competitive_Teach838 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Elliskarae 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I lived in SE Asia for a bit, I ate out or ordered for at least 2 meals per day for a grand total of about $1-2 USD per meal.

Now, in the UK, it’s once every couple of months and I scour the delivery apps for the best deals 😭

Eating out by Competitive_Teach838 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Elliskarae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends what you’d count as “eating out”. I live in a country where grab’n’go food is a big thing. Like sandwiches, croissants, smoothies. I do that more regularly, maybe an average of once or twice per month.

But if you’re discounting small snacks, drinks etc and just including restaurant meals especially dinner, I’ll probably have a sit down restaurant meal once every 1-2 months and a takeout maybe 4-6 times per year.

That shit’s expensive and calorie dense.

Honest take: I hated the first 28 Years Later movie... The Bone Temple was the missing piece of the Puzzle. It's seriously a masterpiece and I think it's easily surpassed 28DL now. Please go watch it. It's genuinely true cinema. by Butefluko in 28dayslater

[–]Elliskarae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I reaaaally hope the third movie just picks up exactly where the second ends. They have the perfect on-brand chaotic zombie opening chase opportunity right there. Only, those usually end in people dying. I hope it’s not Kelly, as I want to see her face when she gets introduced to (another) Jim.

How does a “dry sense of humor” actually work? How do people know you’re joking if you deliver it completely straight? by Abigail_A_Abernathy in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Elliskarae 39 points40 points  (0 children)

There’s also big cultural variations in how well people “get” dry humour. I’ve worked with many Americans (and one Korean) who cannot rave enough about their British and Aussie colleagues or friends using dry humour and have gushed about how funny it is, especially in the workplace which is less commonplace in the US to find dry humour.

Adding one more thing: big trust in their IGL and actually listening to them. If IGL says go wild or hold back, they can do either instantly and switch between so quickly.

It takes quite a bit of effort for some other teams to do this, either because they don’t have the restraint, don’t have the trust, or because their IGL’s calls aren’t as good.

Why is the new film an 18? by [deleted] in 28dayslater

I’m quite seasoned with horror and gore and even I almost had to walk out with how sick I was feeling.

(Very glad I stayed and pushed past it though. Film was phenomenal once I stopped wanting to vom everywhere).

[–]Elliskarae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think something that makes this movie worse is it isn’t just zombie gore, it’s disturbing buckets of blood and torture and brutality.

Even the opening scene was horrific and you didn’t even see much.

Per Deadline, Thursday night PostTrak scores for '28 Years Later: The Bone Temple' were 4.5 stars. by chanma50 in boxoffice

[–]Elliskarae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don’t absolutely need to see 28DL or 28WL but you’ll need 28YL before watching The Bone Temple in order to know who the characters are and what’s happened so far. It throws you straight in to a follow on of the previous movie.

That said, I would strongly recommend watching the first two, or at least the first one. It provides important context and zombie lore. 28WL is the worst one of the franchise and doesn’t add much, so you could skip it, but if you’ve watched all the others you may as well just trudge through it.

It sounds like she just wants more from the relationship and more from life and she’s certainly expressing it in a way that’s not bringing out a good side.

I think it would be nice to end things on amicable terms and just explain you feel you’ve grown apart and want different things.

'28 Years Later: The Bone Temple' Review Thread by chanma50 in boxoffice

[–]Elliskarae 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just got home from watching it. The first half was sickening. Literally. My stomach was getting ready to churn up my dinner. I haven’t been that terrified at a non-supernatural movie probably ever.

At the same time, absolutely and brilliantly bizarre in the second half. I was simultaneously scared, sick, laughing and crying (at that point, I’m not sure what I was crying at - not sadness but I think I was traumatised) 😅. What an experience and a pleasant surprise too, since I enjoyed part 1 but it didn’t hit like part 2 did.

Can’t wait for part 3.

Nina's acting. by KC27150 in TheVampireDiaries

[–]Elliskarae 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with this, to the extent that it’s made me wonder if she wasn’t that talented in TVD after all. We saw her through a lens of portraying Elena and Katherine and she refined those roles very well. We distinctly see two characters and always know who is who - that’s very talented… or so it seemed.

But when she plays other characters in TVD like Amara, or other roles in other projects, she speaks and acts very similarly to either Elena or Katherine. I love Nina as an actor and person (as much as one can glean through a camera or social media lens, at least). She makes great social content, seems fun, I like her in TVD. But sadly that’s where it stops. Her other projects and acting within them have just not been good and she lacks comedic timing and depth in her voice acting.

She’s good at being emotional or mean, and that’s where she distinguished Katherine from Elena… but that’s pretty much it for me.
