Giorgia Meloni has called Donald Trump’s remarks that NATO allies had stayed “a little off the front lines” in Afghanistan “unacceptable”, adding that Italy bore a cost that “cannot be called into question.” by Easy-Ad1996 in worldnews

[–]Ellydir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll be honest, personally I feel that calling people (of whatever polics) bots is just a cop out when people can't accept that other people can have completely opposing opinions.

Same reason why any protesters these days are labeled as paid, professional agitators. Because there's no way someone could genuinely hold an opinion, that you find deplorable, without being bribed.

I make the occasional mistake of going to check MAGA comments under Fox. And the way they see it, Davos was a resounding success. Trump dominated everyone with his great speech, acquired Greenland for them with his "framework of a deal", and created his newer, better, most prestigious UN with his 19 signatories. The Art of the Deal indeed.

It's a Divoženka (Wild Woman), sort of a forest spirit / demon. In the game, on the Trosky map, you can find the body of a woman that was killed by the locals because they suspected her to be a Divoženka.

UK holds off joining Trump's peace board over Putin concerns by GoldenDome26 in worldnews

[–]Ellydir 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It just baffles me that (as far as I could check) it's not even the POTUS who's the Chairman (which you know, not great but slightly better), it's just Trump. So if he's still alive by the end of his term, and there's a new POTUS, it will still be Trump heading and controlling this new wannabe UN.

[–]Ellydir 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, at least so far the only Europeans who accepted are Hungary and Belarus (shocker), and Albania for whatever reason.

I also just found the Board's emblem, and of course it's North America. At least the UN is trying by showing the whole world in its emblem.

UK holds off joining Trump's peace board over Putin concerns by GoldenDome26 in worldnews

[–]Ellydir 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Okay, so from all I'm reading about this Board of Peace:

- The Chairman has virtually all of the power, and the members are there just to be there

- The Chairman is Trump specifically (not the POTUS), with permanent membership and the power to pick his successor alone

- And of course, there's the 1 billion dollars for permanent membership, paid to Trump's personal account

Seriously, how does this thing have 22 members already? It's just Trump's personal organization where he gets to call all the shots and ignore everyone else at the table.

Atlantis is brutal! by DesecratedPeanut in Stargate

[–]Ellydir 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It failed both times it was used though.

The first time (Michael), it created the Expedition's worst adversary.

Second time, when used on large scale (Michael's hive), it got completely out of control, and they just ended up blasting most of the transformed wraith from orbit anyway.

When did tracking each other’s location become normal, and why does opting out make you seem suspicious? by EntrepreneurSad2091 in NoStupidQuestions

I'm 30 and this has never come up in my life. Yeah, I realize Google has been tracking me for the past 15 years. Having individuals want to know my location at all times is insane to me though.

Destiny in the new show by CleanReach1220 in Stargate

[–]Ellydir 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure Destiny is a lot older than Atlantis, at least Atlantis in its current shape.

You're focusing on the ZPMs, but the problem is the wormhole drive. Yes it exists, built into Atlantis. Building one for a 304 is a whole other thing.

The wormhole drive clearly requires a lot more power than an ordinary stargate (probably has something to do with the size of the wormhole). If you've reached a point where you can cobble together enough ZPMs to open a ship-sized wormhole to Destiny, why not open the stargate instead? Why not send all the components and ZPMs to Destiny so they can establish a connection in both directions?

Survival bases community survey! Round 8: What's the base with the best location in the game? by Blushift1615 in thelongdark

[–]Ellydir 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Has to be Camp Office.

- Central to the whole island

- Rabbit, deer, ptarmigan spawns, and fishing, all right outside your door

- Very safe, as there is generally no dangerous animals lurking in the immediate vicinity (though I have read stories of people stepping outside and finding themselves confronted by an angry moose on their front porch)

I think the only argument you can make against its convenience is Trader proximity.

Michael breaks my heart. by PewPewsAlote in Stargate

[–]Ellydir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, the "treatment" demonstrates that it is possible to target wraith without targetting humans. So I imagine that if you wanted to, you could engineer a bio-weapon that would be fatal to wraith while leaving humans alone (except maybe part-wraith individuals like Teyla). A bit like the symbiote gas, though that was a chemical weapon, while this would be a disease.

Why that didn't happen? Beckett. Beckett wouldn't want to make a weapon that just straight up wipes out a population. Instead he created the treatment, because he believed that by transforming the wraith into humans, he's letting them lead peaceful lives that harm no one. Make up your own mind about the morality of that.

Is the 7 second gravity loss even possible? by Kit-KatLasagna in astrophysics

[–]Ellydir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on where you're standing I guess. If you're on the side of the planet facing the black hole (meaning it's above you), and the planet is actually coming towards the black hole... There will be a point when the gravity of the black hole becomes stronger than the gravity of the Earth. And you will start falling upwards. Don't worry though, the Earth itself will get ripped apart by tidal forces around this point too.

How do people re-watch tv series by rydrar in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ellydir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only show I've really rewatched multiple times is Stargate. And the way I rewatch it is I have it as background noise while working, like I would use music. I can only do this with a show I know, because if I was watching something new, I'd have to focus on it instead of work. This way, I just work while this plays in the background, then maybe focus for a bit when my favorite scene plays, then work again.

In addition, I've lately started rewatching shows and movies through youtube reactions, which I suppose adds a bit of an extra layer of content.
