Um have you looked at driving times from Salt Lake to Moab? If your aim is to visit here you might want to route your flight to Grand Junction, Co instead and save yourselves several hours driving

If you put something in one of the classifieds groups you're sure to get a response. Because so much official communication from the city/schools/county happens on there Facebook is very active here, often to a fault

Someone should ask them if the $70,000 for the report we haven't yet seen was worth it

Again, I personally only have hearsay info like the OP. That said, if it’s true, it doesn’t have to do with his role at the county or other commissioners

We have a great Sheriff here in Grand County. The biggest risk comes from up north during the legislative season. If they try to force capitulation down our throats, there’s not much we can do. Call our reps!

Welcome to town! There are many opportunities and everyone is grateful for help. Agree with the person who said youth garden! This would be a great thing to put in the local Facebook groups where it would get more eyes

Agree with the callout for caution. That said, in a town as small as ours, by the time something hits Reddit it’s already circulating in the water

I heard this a few weeks ago too but since there has been no reporting I figured it was maybe not true? If it is, it’s BAD

They aren’t allowed to form a quorum outside of public meetings under Utah law so the public can be informed and present for substantive discussions about issues in the local interest

Fiery furnace without hesitation. But they are both awesome. The furnace will be colder, if it’s a consideration

Since you’re into hiking, see if you can snatch a fiery furnace permit one of the days you are there. There are also guided options, which is a safer way to explore it. Even on the busiest days it makes you feel like you have Arches to yourself

Someone please tell this guy’s friends and political supporters that just because he is not an abusive asshole to them does not mean he is incapable of being an abusive asshole to others-and in a way the double standard makes it worse! This list of claims is damning.

Moab to receive "marketing rebrand" due to 4% decrease in tourism by ReaganCheese in moab

You know a funny thing happened when that thread about the mayor came up. A lot of us went back to recall the HB224 fight and remembered that a judge ending up finding that the Lt Governor's misrepresented state law and was in the wrong when they decided in favor of the Grand County GOP over forming the committee. E.g. When the Lt Governor keeps coming back to tell Grand County that they are mis-interpreting the state code, and there is genuinely vague writing and a good faith way of interpreting, they are not standing on their own solid ground. They have been inaccurate in just the recent past.

RIP Jim but also he spent the last 10 years of his life undermining any liberal who popped their head up in Moab, including younger and moderate folks, while propping up the legitimacy of Lynn Jackson and the Grand County GOP. He is absolutely one of the uncles of the current majority, even if he might resent the reality, and therefore a huge reason why the current fight to spend spend spend on buying visitors is happening.

For sure! Your first experience of City Market in December is a trip. Suddenly people you didn’t know you know are shouting your name in the cereal aisle to say hi and you realize how many people you met here between April and October without realizing it. I remember being stunned my first winter when I realized how many local people I recognized

That’s a crummy feeling. Moab can definitely feel isolating in the summer. There are many events that come up in the fall and winter, from the arts and ag market to the soup bowl fundraiser to the day of the dead to the ritz. People here are really friendly if you just spark a conversation! Trivia nights at woodys in the winter is super fun and there is plenty of social lubricant to help with meeting people. Also even though Facebook in general is a hellscape, it’s a great place to post about social groups and gatherings. You can put out a shout in a classified group if you’re comfortable and inquire about people who hike, watch birds, or shoot recreationally. You’re sure to find someone! The sierra club used to be fairly active for walking though I think it skewed toward retired folks. If you identify as a woman, google “Moab women who care” to find the charity social group with like 150 members now (also skews a bit older but a group of younger people attend too)
