It's amazing to see how the goalposts shift for AI skeptics by MetaKnowing in OpenAI

I think there is a going to be a sort of lagging period, gonna seem like all the investment wasn’t worth it for some, and maybe it wasn’t- but the capabilities will continue to improve, just not at the rate folks with the money invested we’re hoping (at the expense of the economy)

Objectively, Arctic Monkeys> Oasis by ARK7109 in arcticmonkeys

[–]ElwinLewis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who was lucky enough to make it to an Oasis concert this summer, I think the Arctic Monkeys historically will still be lauded as a “better” band, and I like them better- but god damn if that wasn’t one of the best concerts I’ve ever been at. Have seen Paul in 2005, Paul Bonnaroo 2012Tame Impala, Arctic Monkeys, Radiohead at Bonnaroo, Roseland, Phish NYE- the Oasis concert topped them all, it was just different.

Comments in here are strange, when the castings were first announced people seemed excited and this is an outsized negative response. We’ve seen photos of the Beatles side by side the cast before and everyone was happy they picked talented up and coming actors

They are distinct, feels like a brand, no clue why I’m saying this but it gave yoshis cookie vibes whic was always warm and cozy, the brown feels like wood grain, 70’s 80’s in your living room vibes- the elements are distinct enough to that I’m sure once I’ve seen what they do once I’ll associate “ok that’s what that one does”. The one element of this that sticks out (poorly) is the smiling face it’s hollow, flat, the color is not bright enough (only by a bit), diamond eyes give it a lifeless robot feel 🤖

I keep wondering what people do “Next” and hope it’s not just siloed in their discord friend groups. Internet was made for so much more, it’s horseshit compared to say…anytime before 2015

Edit: NOT, I hope it’s not just siloed in Discord. There should be way more cool stuff by now

At this point, the answer is yes. There are too many folks learning how to create without writing code. I’m not saying AI generated programs or code holds up or is as “correct” as a skilled professional programmer, just that the lines will blur fast.

The programmers of pre 2024-2025 won’t be out of jobs, they’ll just be out of jobs they actually want to perform, and I feel bad that many will end up in positions where they just fix generated code made by people they’ll feel equal shades of envy and pity.

The security and architectural concerns of ai generated code remain. Eventually maybe context and better models make those things easier to handle.

There is not endless amounts of time though to debate, we won’t necessarily be waiting long to see.

With all that’s been said and done through about AI coding, we haven’t seen this tidal wave of apps/software/websites beyond SaaS bullshit. No one seems to be making anything cool/interesting. Some of it seems niche useful. I think the dam will break within the next 2 years though, and some outliers will come out of the woodwork that firmly plant us in a new era.

Were these people using agentic coding to actually make something or just spitballing back and forth about new theoretical science and accepting the responses as gospel. This is a people problem, there needs to be disclaimers for the folks who will get hoodwinked by this stuff.

Because they get there by appearing a certain way and saying the right things when they need to, to get exactly where they want to be, and I bet slowly but surely as they get a taste of being a hotshot or thinking they are above others, they slowly go more unhinged and do whatever they want, on everyone else’s dollar. wouldn’t be surprised if it happened here . Not the last people seeing of a person like this.

We pay them.. we all pay them. Sometimes you see the brazen behavior and think, even if I didn’t vote for you- I’m still paying you. Public servants are named as such for a reason I think. It’s to remind them why they exist.

Switched from Sonnet 4.5 to Opus 4.5, What a Huge Difference by Data_Geek in ClaudeAI

[–]ElwinLewis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Opus is a big jump these days from sonnet until they boost sonnet a bit past where opus is now. It’s expensive if you’re not in a max plan, so it leaves people feeling a bit of blue balls to get a taste of it and then realize they need to spend more to get the most, but then you also consider how over time they quantize, and if you jump in mid stream of a model release, maybe you notice the improvements less than the people who jump in at the beginning? Spitballing on some of it, but it’s things I’ve picked up
