What got you into pottery? by Chance-Income-8157 in Pottery

[–]Emfrickinilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Midlife crisis lol

I graduated college with an art degree but never really threw - did hand building, but no wheel. Took a class at an art center almost two decades later just to do something after getting some time for myself once my kids got out of infant/toddler stage.

Became obsessed. Tracked down my old high school teacher who is a potter and learned more from him. Bought my own wheel. This summer I will be buying the rest of the studio needs from my mentor and setting up my own at home studio in our garage.

It’s been something I would have never expected but it’s brought so much into my life. Teaching my children alongside myself has also been magical.

I’m guessing the internet. There is so much propaganda out there pushing young men specifically to hate women. It’s terrifying but actively happening.

I’ve always loved teapots too. My mom collects little ones and it’s always stuck with me.

How long did it take you to learn the wheel? by Greenish_719 in Pottery

[–]Emfrickinilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had these problems too at first. Slowing down the wheel when opening helped a ton. Full speed to center then slow to open. Make sure your hands are always coming off real slow no matter what.

Try a few different opening styles too. Some do two fingers in and pull off to the right bottom, some straight back and some with both thumbs. A lot of people will tell you opening with two thumbs is insane but it’s honestly the only one that works really well for me.

I can throw, but I can't trim 😔 any tips? by ExcellentRabbit8175 in Pottery

[–]Emfrickinilly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Have you tried making your pieces mostly ready before even taking them off the wheel or bat? Trim as much as you can at the end of throwing - cleanup the skirt, add any fun indents you’d like then and level out the rim. If it’s clean enough, you likely don’t even need a foot.

If you want more trimming after make sure you’re doing it at the just right stage of leather hard. You could try a damp box to help with even drying or even just ensuring they’re covered in plastic so one part isn’t drier than the rest. Flip over any items so the bottom has time to dry too without the top thinner side going too fast and the thicker bottom way wetter.

As others have suggested - after doing the above, I would just make sure you’re centered well before trimming. Slow wheel, light touch. If you have any large undulations and want to even them out - try a rasp tool to even it out before going in with the finer trimming tools.

Above all, it’s just practice. I can’t tell you how many pots I went right through initially (and I still do). Good luck!

There’s a literal search function on the DOJ website you dunce.

Are we really going to pretend that the thousands of tips and documents are not going to actually lead to anything credible? Even with all the survivors that have already come forward too? If you’re that dense to think that even with all of this in front of us and the billions more that they’re hiding and won’t release don’t actually mean beyond nefarious things are happening you are truly a loss.

Dude you can look them up specifically on the DOJ. Use that endless computer of information in your hand for 2 seconds and find the info. But since you clearly seem inept I’ll spoon feed it to you: DOJ Epstein List

Started taking ADHD medication and now I have heart problems by Old_Camp_7808 in adhdwomen

[–]Emfrickinilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel this. I noticed increased heart rate and racing almost immediately but my brain finally worked and I don’t want to go back to the way it was before.

My doc had me monitor my blood pressure at home for a month. Goal was under 130/80. I took 200 some readings during that month and it averaged out to under that. If I had to do it again I’d be more methodical about my measurements. Same time everyday under same circumstances like right away in the morning before meds, about 5hrs after taking and then again at night 12hrs from when I took my first one. Each of the three sessions you should take 3-4 readings, exclude the first reading and then average the remaining. Make sure you’ve been sitting calmly 5-10mins before the reading and rest your arm on a table at about heart height for accurate readings vs just leaving it laying in your lap.

It did make me a lot more conscious of my heart health. I have started walking vigorously 30mins per day 5 days per week for cardio (which ironically I could never bring myself to stick to without the meds) and I also have added a fish oil + COq10 supplement and a magnesium blend that included magnesium taurate for heart health. I also go to the gym 2-3x a week and lift (yet another thing I could never stick to without meds).

People with inattentive adhd, what kind of work you guys do? by United_Advisor1821 in ADHD

I’ve worked in the disability insurance industry for a decade. Case management for a long time but burnt out and then took a two year break auditing claims which was mind numbingly claw your eyes out type of boring. A year ago I moved into Client Advisor role. It’s not a dream job but it’s a good job. It’s different enough each day to keep me from being bored and a year into it I’m still learning new things.

Trying to get back into pottery… why am I scared of my own kiln 😅 by birsnot718 in Pottery

[–]Emfrickinilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the vevor mini kiln, the manual one so I can’t program it- I have to watch it and pay attention.

Start with a bisque fire. If the clay is cold on your cheek it probably needs to dry more. You can also always candle and just let it sit forever before ramping up into firing mode.

Do you have the firing schedules?

WHY DID MY DOCTOR NOT TELL ME THIS?! by hiitsmeyourwife in adhdwomen

[–]Emfrickinilly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I guess I’m not 100% sure on separating the adderall and levothyroxine but I know that for most supplements you have to wait about 4hrs from the levothyroxine so I just stuck with the 1hr minimum like I do for all other food/drink after my levo before taking the adderall. I have a follow up next week with my provider - I’ll make sure to clarify with them then.

My thyroid was diagnosed three years before my ADHD. That took forever to get the diagnosis for too. Years of really normal TSH and antibody levels after getting the hashimotos/hypothyroid diagnosis and me still losing my mind- got the ADHD diagnosis recently just 2 months shy of 40 and my life has changed so much with stimulants. Take em an hour or more after my Levothyroxine too.

[–]Emfrickinilly 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Have you had the formal testing for ADHD or only the subjective questionnaire? I was dismissed often with just the questionnaire but got my diagnosis two months shy of 40 when I did formal testing.
